“The Boat”, narrated by a Mid-western university professor, Alistar MacLeod, is a short story concerning a family and their different perspectives on freedom vs. tradition. The mother pushes the son to embrace more of a traditional lifestyle by taking over the fathers fishing business, while on the other hand the father pushes the son to live more autonomously in an unconstrained manner. “The Boat” focuses on the father and how his personality influences the son’s choice on how to live and how to make decisions that will ultimately affect his life. In Alistair MacLeod’s, “The Boat”, MacLeod suggest that although dreams and desires give people purpose, the nobility of accepting a life of discontentment out weighs the selfishness of following ones own true desires. In the story, the father is obligated to provide for his family as well as to continue the fishing tradition that was inherited from his own father. The mother emphasizes the boat and it’s significance when she consistently asked the father “ How did things go in the boat today” since tradition was paramount to the mother. H...
The biggest lessons learned are the ones that Brent learns on his trip to the four spots. All kinds of people contribute to Brent’s change of attitude; one comment or story or facial expression at a time. Not only does he help himself, but also several people that he meets.
In today’s society, indigenous athletes are treated the same as any other athletes. An example of this would be Carey Price, an indigenous athlete from British Columbia. Price is a goaltender and plays for the Montreal Canadiens and has been treated with the same basic respect as any other athlete. It hasn’t always been this way. Hundreds of years ago, indigenous athletes were treated with prejudice. An example of this would be Tom Longboat. Tom Longboat is a Canadian hero; he had a hard childhood, had many accomplishments and overcame many challenges.
In Craig Lesley’s novel The Sky Fisherman, he illustrates the full desire of direction and the constant flow of life. A boy experiences a chain of life changing series of events that cause him to mature faster than a boy should. Death is an obstacle that can break down any man, a crucial role in the circle of life. It’s something that builds up your past and no direction for your future. No matter how hard life got, Culver fought through the pain and came out as a different person. Physical pain gives experience, emotional pain makes men.

We are introduced to the protagonist and main character, Sanger Rainsford who is a big game hunter and a WW1 veteran. The story starts off with a conversation between Whitney and Rainsford discussing the island, so we can understand the reputation it holds.
To begin, survival is the key in every ones mindset. You only live once as most people say. However, with Jack and Ralph and the rest of the boys, they all seemed that all hope was lost. They had been stranded in the island for months, hoping that one day, someone will find them and return them home. Ralph was the most panicked person in the group simply because he hadn’t cut his hair and it was growing. He also did not shower at all, and he did not shave or eat as much simply due to the lack of surviving. He had given up on the hope for rescue, until in chapter 12, he, along with Jack and the rest of the boys, were saved by an officer which saw the destruction and the vicious bodies of the ...
When Louie was stranded on the raft, he never let circumstance get the better of him. The three survivors, Louie, Phil, and Mac, all had completely differing perspectives of their trouble. Louie and Phil stayed optimistic, while Maxc slowly deteriorated along with his hope. Hillenbrand wrote that "It remains a mystery why these three young men, veterans of the same training and same crash, differed so radically in their perceptions of their plight. Maybe the difference was biological; some men may be wired for optimism, others for doubt... Perhaps the men's histories had given them opposing convictions about their capacity to overcome adversity... Though all three men faced the same hardship, their differing perceptions of it appeared to be shaping their fates. Louie and Phil's ...

A quote that Richard reads is “Here is a test to find whether your mission on earth is finished: If you’re alive, it isn’t” (121). Throughout the entire story, Don proves this quote to be true. Donald works to share his gifts and carry out his mission on earth. Richard and Don are barnstormers. They live their lives flying from town to town, landing in farm fields, and giving flights to local people for three dollars.
...This shows that the values of the two leaders, Ralph and Jack, impact a lot on the societies civilization and differ from one another.

Tucker and his two companions, Quin and Tori, know that Granger is a man of his words, and witnessed him murder anyone who tried to get off the island by boat. Hiding the fact well enough, by blaming the incidents on a never existing disease known around the island as the pemberwick virus, they decided going to Portland and report to the citizens , that the US navy are making their home into a place where the citizens are treated like prisoners. During their attempt to escape, they witness the war that was hidden from the island and in the process Tuckers best friend gets killed by being vaporized to death along with his boat to escape. “Never let the fear of failure be an excuse for not trying. Society tells us that to fail is the most terrible thing in the world but I know it isn’t. Failure is a part that makes us human“ (Amber Deckers) The character resentfully decides to abandon his fear of failure and decides to do anything to escape the island even though the possibilities and tactics were crazy enough to kill you. This change is demonstrated when Tucker intakes an unknown crystal that killed millions on the island, to break away from captivity, using a crystal, known as the “Ruby.” He uses the Ruby to escape,The Ruby has the power to make him invincible for the cost of his life. when brought
