Trust is believing someone or something is reliable, honest, and effective. In any relationship the people in it need to have trust, so they can be assured that they can share anything with the other person. The movie from 1990 Goodfellas by Martin Scorsese is an example of people having to trust one another. The movie keeps me interested because it keeps you wondering who’s going to be next to be killed even though I have watched it multiple times. If the mob has a problem with you they will deal with you by killing you or your family on easier instances they’ll simply make you disappear. They don’t care if you have been loyal if they lose your trust. Always watch what you say to people because that could ruin the trust you could have. In …show more content…
the movie Spider is just a local kid just helping out the mob and providing any needed services. Tommy Devito then doesn’t like Spider’s little remark at him, so he shoots him in the foot. The next time they go out, Spider is there serving them drinks and states some obscenities towards Tommy. He then just kills him right there. This shows that Tommy had a feeling he would no longer trust Spider because he had a smart mouth that could get him and the whole mob in trouble if he didn’t keep his mouth shut. Even though spider was a local kid he still had a little knowledge about what goes on and he could destroy some plans if he over heard anything. If you’re on the lower level of the hierarchy you are still accountable of holding your trust with the mob. Your own family could be the ones that you could lose trust in.
The scene Wake up Henry is trust issues between Karen and Henry, because both of them lose some trust between each other. The scene starts with Karen holding a gun to Henry’s face while he starts to wake up. Henry then tries to calm Karen down and then flips the problems on her. He tells her I have enough people trying to kill me I don’t need to be killed in my own house. In that scene Karen loses trust in Henry that he is faithful to only her and doesn’t see other women behind her back. While Henry loses his trust with Karen that she might flip and try to kill him like everyone else wants too. Even family can lose trust in each other and that could cause turmoil in a business like the …show more content…
mob. When some people are moved up in the hierarchy because they were good for building more money in the business didn’t mean they were protected.
Some people could be almost to the top, but when they were thought they couldn’t be trusted they were whacked. Morrie was a businessman in the wig business and when he needed money or favors he would go to the mob, but Morrie was known of talking a lot and not keeping his mouth shut. This would soon be the cause of the death of him. Vinny didn’t trust him because he spoke to much and he knew he would have to get rid of him, so he could cover any pieces of evidence that could get back to him. Morrie was then going to be taken to a coffee outing but then was killed in front seat of a car because they needed to get rid of him. Morrie had a little bit of an advantage because he was dealing business to them, but when he was no longer needed he was taken
out. Goodfellas shows that you shouldn’t always trust everyone that is around you, including your own blood. Many groups were not being trusted in this movie, such as law enforcement, family, other businessmen and some of the people didn’t trust themselves. Law enforcement may have had some men go under and react with an attitude towards the whole thing with it was fine, but there was other law enforcement that believe in that way. Family and friends could never be trusted if something was felt like the person was unreliable. Other business men were definitely under watch because people would do anything to make a quick buck for nothing, Some men didn’t even trust themselves, in an instance when Henry had his first trial you could tell he was nervous and was trying to keep his mouth shut and not rat on himself during the hearing. This is why Vinny throughout the movie would kill off men and women constantly, so it would be harder to try to find him guilty for certain things. People only tend to only watch out for themselves and no one else. In the end no one is really trusted everyone gets their punishment whether it was prison time, death, or put into a witness protection program. Trust is key to staying alive even if you are not in the mob if you can not be trusted your word means nothing. Even simply promising a little favor could mean that someone may never go up to you with good or bad news. Keeping your word is a way to build your trust in others that you may need later on in life. The same goes with not trusting everyone because if someone can get something they’ll go to the ends of the earth just to get what they want and throw you off to the side. Trust is a two way street both parties need to be able to rely on the other to know they got each other’s backs in good or bad times.
Money, murder, power, and loyalty, the epitome and basic essentials of any Mafia movie. Initially, when watching two of the most popular titles in this genre, Goodfellas and The Godfather, they may have similar themes, but in all truth, they are on completely opposite ends of the spectrum. While Goodfellas welcomes you to the family with a friendly smile and a voice-over, The Godfather makes you stand astray and watch in silence as an outsider.
Trust is the one thing in this world that lots of people desire. Who wants to have any type of relationship without trust? It is not something that should be automatically given though, trust has to be earned. People should not automatically trust just because they know them or have been knowing them for a while.
Trust is defined as the reliance on the integrity, strength, ability or surety of a person or thing. To break ones trust is to lose their confidence in the person or thing. Trust can be broken with a single, unreliable action and is often challenging and difficult to win back. In the case of the one whose trust was broken, it is a difficult, jarring and abrupt change of reality to discover the betrayal and loss of trust in someone who they once relied upon . In William Shakespeare 's play entitled Hamlet, the protagonist Hamlet is unable to take swift revenge on his father 's murderer. This is due to the fact that Hamlet has become distrustful of the most important people in his life and so this sparks a question in those around him but also
Trust is one thing between two people that takes time and effort to build, and as it is growing, a bond between two people can form. This is why some of the longest lasting relationships are formed at a young age. Trust is build on shared experiences, and On the other end of the spectrum, trust can be shattered in a matter of seconds. Once shattered, trust is something that must be wanted to be rebuilt or it will never be the same again. It breaks into a million pieces and all the pieces must be regained and reforged into what it once was. Sadly, more often than not, this does not happen as some of the pieces are
What is trust? According to Merriam-Webster’s Online Dictionary, trust is an assumed reliance or the character, ability, and strength of someone or something. My definition of trust is someone who can do something without being checked up on or being able to depend on someone. The focus of this essay will be trust. I will go in depth on trust at home, school and trust in general. Follow me on this journey as I explain why trust is needed and how it betters your character. Let’s begin…
Trust is needed in order to mend relationships and reestablish interdependence, as well as, intimacy. –If we create a space for something good to happen, it will (need to create a space of growing levels of trust).
What does trust mean to you? Do you trust everyone close to you, and the people you deal with day to day? The definition of Trust is “firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something”. The definition of Trustworthiness is “able to be relied on as honest or truthful”. Trust is one of the most important things to me. I’ve had many people break my trust and its hard to know if someone is genuine and reliable and somebody you actually wanna associate with. People change, that's one big thing I have came to learn throughout the years, there are so many people I thought I knew that turned their backs on me.
To be told you are trusted is a great feeling, but you should never take advantage of that trust. The second you take advantage of someone’s trust, that relationship will weaken and demolish as a result of distrust. According to my second story, the girl knew that her boyfriend cheated on her and decided to leave the relationship. All the trust that she had in him was destroyed as a result of a reckless action. This story is a good example of the consequences of distrust, and how it affects a relationship.
According to Dictionary.com, “Trust is the definition of reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, surety, etc., of a person or thing; confidence,” I one hundred percent agree with this definition and apply it when looking for trust in someone. I’m a firm believer that trust is an important value that should never be broken between someone and should be gain overtime. I value trust as being the key to many other things in life. For example, if you have trust in someone or something, you can achieve happiness, friendship, loyalty, and many other things. As a final point, I believe having trust as a core value will amount to not only your success, but to others as
Secondly, trust is an issue that every platonic friendship must deal with. Whether dealing with matters of trust is active or passive, its power is still a prevalent and pertinent quality that is mutually understood. Trust is an unwritten rule between friends and is defined as the “firm belief or confidence in the honesty, integrity, reliability, justice, etc of another person.” (Webster’s, pg. 1436) Trust is also described as “faith”(Webster’s, pg. 1436). When using a word such as “faith,” that describes a substantial belief in one another, it is very difficult to argue that breaking the trust of the friendship is ever in the best interest of the friend.
When you trust someone, you are finding the good in them, not the bad.
in each other. In every relationship there has to be trust, but for some reason,
Whenever you have something you need to talk about and you can’t tell anyone, you should be able to tell your friend. When trusting someone, you should be able to leave them with your most prized possession and not once think twice about whether it’s in safe hands.... ... middle of paper ... ... If you surround yourself with positive and goal-oriented people, you will most likely get the best out of life.
In a short passage from Self Reliance, by Ralph Waldo Emerson, it states, “Trust thyself: every heart vibrates to that iron string.” This quote by Emerson shows that everyone can trust in themselves, and people are lead and attracted to the ones that are more trustworthy in others and themselves. This quote applies to you, even if you don’t think it does. Trust is important in relationships, and one must have confidence in themselves, and others, in every aspect of life. Everyone deals with hardships throughout life, so one must trust despite your failures, mistakes, and insecurities of yourself and others. Each and every person will mess up one time or another in their life, nobodies perfect, and sometimes trust is broken, but by trusting yourself, you will then be able to trust others.
We can critic one’s trustworthiness by how dependable they are, which translates into how easy we can forecast what they do. This may also include a person who we conflict and who may hurt us. It is often better to trust a person to be harsh or unhelpful than face the doubt of if they will be in an excellent manner today. We also trust others when we must. There is a practicality of working with people that you do not have time to check up on everyone, so you just must trust them. The same effect happens in social situations. You cannot function if you assume everyone around you is a threat to you. Putting your trust in someone now makes them reliable to you and now you have given that person the right to do what was asked. The outcome could be either good or bad and once someone’s breaks your trust it is so hard to trust again. Trust me I know from personal experience and it
