True Love Versus Temporary Love
Love is an immeasurable force that is the greatest bond that people can hold in the world.True love lasts a lifetime and is able to sustain itself through hard times. Temporary love lacks the ability to sustain power and only lasts a limited amount of time. In William Shakespeare's play, A Midsummers Nights Dream, love is shown through many unique and plentiful relationships. The contrast between temporary and true love are shown through relationships that are based established on lust are shown by relationships like Oberon and Hippolyta as well as Titania and Theseus. Hermia’s father, Egeus, decided for Hermia that she was to marry Demetrius and not Lysander. This marriage would have separate two lover that possessed true love which would be devastating for them. The second means of fabricated love is through the juice of Cupid’s flower. Through the flower’s juice, love is fabricated in the victim making them fall in love with the first person they see when they wake up. Due to this, Demetrius and LYsander fall in love with Helena instead of Hermia which causes argument, fights and duels. This love is only temporary though as Lysander is given the antidote from Puck and falls in love with Hermia once again. This demonstrates that love conquers all through difficult situations and always has the ability to sustain overtime. This can be also shown through the relationship between Titania and Bottom and how their fabricated love was merely temporary. In A Midsummers Nights Dream, the relationship between Lysander and Hermia demonstrates true love ans how true love conquers all. The first obstacle that their relationship endured was due to the Athenian Law. According to the Athenian Law a woman must marry the suitor that was chosen for her by her father or immediate family. If a woman has chosen not to follow these laws, then they shall be banished to be a nun or to be executed. Hermia decided to go against the Athenian law to be with Lysander. This courageous decision shows their desire to be together even it mean the death penalty.
