Mount Rushmore stands as a testament to the accomplishments of those it depicts. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln were carefully chosen to represent the good of the American people. If I were able to develop an international version of Mt. Rushmore, I would choose to create the four faces of Mother Teresa, Marie Curie, Nelson Mandela, and Winston Churchill, because of the versatility of their actions, nationality, and merit.
To begin, Mother Teresa stands as a strong activist from India, who deserves recognition for her tremendous actions. Mother Teresa, founder of a religious group of nuns in Calcutta, India, devoted her life to aiding sick and poor people throughout the world. I see Mother Teresa as an important figure to depict, since she dedicated her life to helping other and even inspired others to do the same. Born in war-torn Albania, Mother Teresa survived her childhood and at 19 joined the Sisters of Loreto in India. She served with missionary order of nuns for 20 years, until she had a realization of her life’s mission. She found that she needed to help the poor and sick. So, Mother Teresa descended into the slums of Calcutta and began the Sisters of Charity. From there, she led the Sisters of Charity in ministering to the sick and hungry by giving them much needed food and live. Mother Teresa received local reconviction; but in 1969, after a documentary on her work, she became a celebrity and was deemed a modern day saint. Mother Teresa used this to increase awareness of her work, thus benefiting the poor and sick further. She gave speeches all over the world emphasizing the struggle of the poor. Before her death, Mother Teresa had met a large number of world l...

...n his endeavors. Most importantly, the underlying nature of Churchill’s action lay in fearlessness, determination, unyielding perseverance and undying dedication to his goal. Churchill serves as an important testament to these characteristics and deserves recognition for all his actions.
I see my monument as encompassment of the greats of the world, pulling in leaders from different parts of the world and also different fields. I think the best place to put an international monument would be somewhere that is not claimed by any one entity. Therefore, I chose to place it on the moon. By placing it on the moon, everyone will be able to experience this large proof of how great a human can be. Mother Teresa, Marie Curie, Nelson Mandela, and Sir Winston Churchill shows traits that humans can aspire to be, while creating a memorable recognition of their actions.
If Dorothy Day is ever canonized, the record of who she was, what she was like and what she did is too complete and accessible for her to be hidden. She will be the patron saint not only of the homeless and those who try to care for them but also of people who lose their temper. One of the miracles of Dorothy's life is that she remained part of a conflict-torn community for nearly a half a century. Still more remarkable, she remained a person of hope and gratitude to the end. Many voices are in support of the canonization process as well, citing Dorothy Day's life as an example that has inspired them to prayer and action for social justice. Her faithfulness to the Gospel, living the "preferential option for the poor" and showing that a lay person can achieve heroic virtue are oft...
The Mount Rushmore National Memorial is located in Black Hills, South Dakota. Carved on the side of this granite mountain are the faces of four well known presidents, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt. Each man earned their place on the mountain for their mark in presidential history. Some might wonder if Theodore Roosevelt belongs on this great memorial and what he did to deserve this honor. His is probably most remembered for his brazen way of getting things done in the White House, but as the 26th president of The United States, Roosevelt should be credited for many of his achievements that we are still appreciating today.
...er contributions to society to a 5 page paper. She did amazing things to improve society as a whole. During her lifetime she was an, author, philosopher, women and children’s rights activist, humanitarian, scholar, sociologist, social worker, social leader, and founder of many programs still in place today. Her ideas continue to influence social, political and economic reform all over the world. I think it would be fair to say it is a blessing she was born in a time that made her type of work more difficult. She worked tirelessly to produce much needed changes that we benefit from today. Often times as Americans we take for granted the freedoms and protections are given to us, not taking into consideration the backbone that was necessary to make them happen. I am thankful for the opportunity to study and become more familiar with such an amazing woman of history.
Mother Teresa resembles this paradigm because she is always helping people. Her actions are based on what she believes she would want upon herself. She treats others the way she would want to be treated. She does this by continuously helping others. For example she helped the. Home less by taking them in and cleaning them up. There was one incident where she picked up a woman literally half-eaten by rats and ants and carried her to the home and cleaned her. Mother Teresa had stated in an interview later, "start treating people the way you want to be treated and you will fulfill one of God's highest purposes for your life". In these examples she treats people the way she wants to be treated with love, respect, and
Mount Rushmore is a glorious monument that people will treasure for many years to come. It has a strong significance to the United States throughout history all the way until today! It is a carving that took lots of effort, tools, and patience, of nobody better to represent our country. Overall Borglum chose the four presidents because he believed they symbolized founding, growth, preservation, and development of the Nation (St. George 37). People continue to visit Mount Rushmore, and will continue to far into the future.
Winston Churchill had many accomplishments during his life. He was a remarkable politician but also a great solider, speech writer, and artist. He was considered one of the best politicians and speech writers of both his time and ours. He was born into the upper class but was able to sympathize with the poor and working class too. Churchill was loved and respected by all. Of all his great accomplishments, Churchill was best known for his two terms as prime minister.
His main skill was being a great orator to the British nation encouraging them to do better. He gave great speeches in order to prepare the British for WW1. He also a brilliant military leader. His skills came from Sandhurst. Churchill was prime minister for a while since the British loved him so much. He became a huge part of the British government as the prime minister. Winston became chief architect in Allied Victory. Meaning he befriended FDR and became good allies with the United States. During WWII when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor, Churchill was devastated yet happy because Britain was able to attack German because of the alliance which caused the Battle of the Britain. Also during WWII, FDR and Winston created an Atlantic Charter which was a meeting between the two outlining the Allied plans for peace at the end of WWII. Throughout his lifetime all Winston wanted was the greatness of his country and all of their allies. Churchill never gave up for the things that are right or for what he believed in. With every uplift of one’s life, there is always
Mount Rushmore is the home of four different historic presidents in American history. These presidents are George Washington, Abraham Lincoln. Thomas Jefferson, and Theodore Roosevelt. Each head on the wall represents some important thing in American history, for example a head wouldn't be put up there for no reason. George Washington represents the first president of the United States, he also represents how he lead the colonists in the Revolutionary war, the war that won independence from Great Britain. Thomas
Have you ever had to choose between living a life of luxury and plenty or choose one that contained hardship and want, but you were able to help the poor? Mother Teresa, in the book Something Beautiful for God, written by Malcum Muggeridge, had to face this same issue. Everyone believes that Mother Teresa helped the poor, but some believe that Mother Teresa should have helped them and some believe they should have not.
A person’s life can be influenced through various aspects of religion, whether it be certain beliefs and traditions or certain people throughout that person’s life. Mother Teresa, born as Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu on August 26, 1910 in Albania, had many influences through Christianity within her life and lived as a person of religion. At an early age, Agnes received a calling from God to help people, which then led to her leaving her home at the age of 18 and joining the Sisters of Loreto. Mother Teresa found meaning through her vocation and was influenced by many beliefs and teachings of the Church such as, the option for the poor and vulnerable, life and dignity of the human person and the two commandments spoken by Jesus.
Born in 1910 in Yugoslavia, Mother Teresa attended government school and became a member of the Sodality. At the same time in 1925, Yugoslav Jesuits began missions in Calcutta, India and wrote to Europe about their Bengal Missions. When these letters were read to the sodalists, Mother Teresa jumped at the opportunity and volunteered. She joined the Loreto Abbey in Ireland, who had connections with the missions and in 1928 found herself in Darjeeling, India. Over the following twenty years, Mother Teresa served at St. Mary’s High School and led ‘The Daughter’s of St. Anne,’ the Indian order of Loreto Sisters. Then in 1946, She requested and received permission, to leave the cloister and work in the slums of Calcutta.
Mother Teresa believed God worked through the world by prayer, in conclusion she mentioned how prayer was really important in her life and that’s how she connected to God. She mentions in the reading, “The more you pray, the better you will pray.” Not on in prayer but in silence she believed we can connect through God, as she states, “In a vocal prayer we speak to God; and in mental prayer he speaks to us.” Mother Teresa really believed we knew and can be certain that God is possible. Her knowledge of God is related to faith, since she has a knowledge of God she continues her life based off of what she should do for him. She gives to people and serves people for God. An example in the reading is when the poor family with children is given rice, and the mother ends up giving half of the rice to the other family she knows that was starving. This is a Godly act that was preformed.
Mother Teresa laid her life down for love, making a dent in the society around her by serving the poorest of the poor, leaving a mark in history for her radical abandonment, and raising the standard to all beleivers by challenging the church to a higher calling of loving “Jesus in disguise. “Malcom Muggeridge attempts to capture her life and ministry in his book “Something Beautiful for God.” However, her ministry cannot be described merely through logistics or numbers, because it had greater purpose than to serve. Mother Teresa and her fellow nuns loved God and loved others. Through Mother Teresa is much wisdom to learn, she was a leader whether she intended to be or not, and through her life God was glorified and His love was made known.
There are many people in this world that we consider great humanitarians. Mother Teresa was a unique individual that stood out of the crowd because of her involvement in helping the sick, poor and dying. She spent everyday of her adulthood caring for people that were in need by setting up the Missionary of Charity along with many homes for the people she cared for. Mother Teresa won many awards throughout her lifetime for her dedication to care for people in need. It is no wonder that Mother Teresa won a Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 and is considered a saint.
Evidence from her residence in the Indian village of Calcutta reveals that she sympathized with the poor and the vulnerable people in the society. Although she had conducted other voluntary missions before, the love for human beings was revealed when she decided to live among the poor people in the village of Calcutta. Her compassionate nature was largely derived from the teachings of Jesus Christ. For example, one of the many articles on Mother Teresa observed that Mother Teresa was on several occasions heard quoting the teachings of Jesus Christ. One of the quotes that she referred to was “Whatever you do to the least of my brethren, you do it to me” (Emilie 3). The foregoing reveals that she was ready to treat vulnerable human beings in a manner that upheld their
