Economic Inequality Report 1 PART 1 Our group will be discussing the issue of Economic Inequality. We will be using the triangle model to identify and examine the related social ideologies of classism, patriarchy, and capitalism, as well as describe the ways in which corporations play in the matter. Economic Inequality can be defined as the unequal distribution of income, pay, and wealth, among society (The Equality Trust, 2017, para 1,2,3). We chose this social issues because we are from communities that are economically unequal from the majority. We have all grown up with the human consequences of an unequal system of economic distribution. It is an issue that we have lived through, and with, our entire lives. We are here today as part of
a path to help change our life situations, as well as the lives of others, that are affected by this social issue. Currently, unequal global economic distribution, has created large gaps among people, while affecting the triple bottom line (environmental, social, and economic factors) of many communities around the world. These conditions faced by those on the low end have created a system that is hard to escape. Many people living in poverty do not have the resources, such as education, food security, access to information, representative local government, etc, to help themselves get out of their situations. The World Bank defines extreme poverty as those living under US$1.90 a day. According to their most recent research on global poverty rates (2013), in 2013, 10.7% of the global population lived on less than this amount. A figure they suggest has dropped from 12.4% the previous year. Although poverty rates have reduced globally, much of this progress has also been unequally distributed. The largest contribution to the reduction comes from East Asia and Pacific (71 million out of extreme poverty) , driven mainly by China and Indonesia, as well as South Asia (37 million out of extreme poverty), with India being the largest contributor in the region. Of those living in extreme poverty, half of those live in Sub-Saharan Africa; whose numbers fell by only 4 million, still leaving 389 million living on less that US$1.90 a day. That number alone is more than all the other regions combined (The World Bank, 2013, para 3).

In class we played Monopoly and each player had different social class roles. The people with the more money had more opportunities while playing, like got more money for passing go, and did not have to pay a fee for doctor bills. While the players with little to no money had a harder “life”. They got paid less and had to pay for loans. During the game the players with the most money bought more property, and kept making the players with the least
There is a problem in the United States that is growing and is causing issues in our country, but not everybody knows about it. The problem is the distribution of wealth in our society and the world as a whole, and how it is getting worse. Some people would say that it is an inequality due to the needs of the society, while others would say it is to the needs or individuals. This causes even more problems because of there being more than one supposed reason for the issue at hand. The problem is that the distribution of power is possibly starting to be lopsided, and for many reasons. There are two main views of why this is happening, the functionalist perspective and the conflict perspective, and they differ in many ways on what is wrong, why it is wrong and what to do about it.
Kingsley Davis and Wilbert Moore article “Some principles of stratification” informs us how important inequality is. People need to be in different social positions to balance out and make the society function. Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels article, “The class struggle,” on the other side, begins with the two social classes; along with how unfair and corrupted the system is benefiting, and damaging the rest of the people. By inheritance and effort, people will always be in different social statuses, but changes will only happen when people unite to make the difference.

Since this principle aims to benefit the people who are in the worst off position, this creates a sense of equality, wherein the person who has the least, gets the most compensation, and in turn, the person with the most, receives the least; thus it balances out the inequality of income and wealth. This constant shift in balance will provide society with a way of moving forward, as people are able to shift up and down in ranks, and allow the entire community to grow in some way. The economic standing will always fluctuate depending on conditions, but the distribution of principles will remain
The distribution of income and wealth is a crucial factor in determining the level of inequality in an economy. Personal income is the flow of funds received in a given period of time by persons or households, and personal wealth refers to the value of net assets of a person or household, it represents the value of items owned less any debts owed by the person or household. The production of wealth is the basis of human life and society. Distribution as a category economic science is not only the distribution of results of social production. In this sense, the distribution in society depends on the institution of property, as the factors of production are owned by their owners.
