I. Introduction. According to The American Association for Surgery of Trauma;

Trauma is the fourth leading cause of death overall for all ages in the United States. Trauma is

a physical wound to the body caused by an external source. There are many cases where people

experience extreme trauma to their bodies, and the only way to fix it is by a surgical operation.

Depending on the intensity of the accident, the required surgery can be equally as invasive as

the injury. In some cases, the trauma and the surgery become too much for the body to handle,

affecting the patient so badly, that he or she ends up dead. Authors Gail Powell Cope, Audrey

L. Nelson, and Emily S. Patterson, all agree that “The general public believes that technology

will improve health care efficiency, quality, safety, and cost… Given that nearly 5,000 types

of medical devices are used by millions of health care providers around the world.” (Powell-
Cope, Nelson, Patterson) Due to technological advancement, among therapeutic advancements,

physicians and Surgeons have successful discovered, lifesaving approaches through surgeries,

that are minimally life threatening.

II. History. In this day and age, the world is constantly advancing, it is

only reasonable that medicine would partake in this phenomenon of evolution. The discovery of

ways to, initially perform invasive surgeries in less invasive ways has been beneficial to both the

Surgeons and patients. In his article "Minimally Invasive Surgery is Successful in Kids" Scott

Tennant explains that, Doctors are using the help of CT scans to examine kid’s damaged internal

et al.) Teenagers tend to neglect and overuse technology, which makes some adults naturally

against technology. If everyone were to be educated about the use of technology to save lives,

more people will be advocates for technological advancements.

!V. Conclusion. As humans we all have a flight or fight response that is activated when

we are exposed to a trauma. Our body immediately goes into protection mode. Developing

minimally invasive surgical approach is an example of a humans fight response. We naturally

think survival. The more minimally invasive surgeries are performed, the more insight surgeons

are going to acquire on how to effectively treat the human body. For those who oppose the

advancements of technology because of the overuse of it by certain demographics, such as

teenagers, Technology is not all bad. It can even save a life.
