Vision:

To lead and coordinate the individual initiatives in the field of trauma and to reduce the burden of injury in our community through a comprehensive and inclusive trauma care center.

Introduction:

Trauma is the most urging issue in the surgery. Serious trauma could easily change the way of our lives with very lasting and painful tragedies. Trauma is

an international epidemic with an annual rate of death exceeding more than 100 million people worldwide, and more than 5 million people their lives cut short due to injury (1). Injury fatality is only the tip of a much uglier and monstrous iceberg. The injury has an enormous impact on the daily lives of productive people. Trauma is a leading cause of death among the youngsters and it results in the loss of more years of life than any other leading causes of death. The economic consequences of injury are appalling with loss of 5.1 million years of productive life annually. Moreover, the trauma consequences can throw their victims in deep poverty as a result of direct and indirect costs. Over $150 billion is the annual direct costs on the consequences of trauma in the USA (1). Unfortunately, the consequences are not limited to physical and economical outcomes, but they are involving many other emotional and social costs to patients and families.

Trauma Systems Save Lives
The trauma centers were born out of necessity as a response to the appalling consequences of trauma. According to the American experience and since mid sixties, the trauma surgeons have been taking the initial steps and been leading the efforts to develop the trauma systems as a response to injury (3). Through a very well dedicated effort, the injury mortality in USA has fallen from 55 per 100,000 populations in 1965, to 37.7 per 100,000 in 2004 (4)
Regionalization of injury care at the regional level is one of the most successful feature of a trauma system. It’s been shown in this seminal study of West and colleagues comparing the proportion of preventable in hospital trauma mortalities in San Francisco County regional trauma center to that in Orange County, where more than 40 centers participated in trauma care. The study has shown that only 1% of preventable deaths in San Francisco as compared to 43% in Orange Country (46). As a result, the Orange county has developed their own regional trauma center and, four years later the proportion of preventable deaths fell to a significant level (47). Recently,Mackenzie et al have used the prospectively collected data to compare mortality between trauma and none trauma centers through out USA. The authors concluded that in hospital mortality were both significantly lower for trauma centers
