The announcement was made last night. NASA had put the little dishes in the big ones to share its discovery. A discovery called Trappist-1.
Trappist-1 is a star located 39 light-years away from us in the constellation Aquarius. This is both very far and very close. Very far, because with our current technology, we would need tens of thousands of years to reach it, and close, because on the scale of the galaxy, Trappist-1 is our next-door neighbor.
Trappist-1 is a white dwarf , having a mass equivalent to only 8% of the mass of our sun. A white dwarf surrounded by seven planets all rocky and of a size similar to the Earth. The discovery of such a system is a first for NASA, which used the Trappist telescope in Chile to study it and the Spitzer
