1. Using the transtheoretical model, Tammy is at the second stage, which is the contemplation to preparation stage. Tammy has been physically active throughout her life by playing softball. In the contemplation to preparation stage the individual wants information to sign up, has interest, and are planning to set goals. In this scenario, Tammy has come to the professional to begin an exercise program. It is also noted that Tammy is interested because she recently read an article about the benefits of resistance training in late life. Also, her friends at the facility has said good things about the program. 2. Individual: Tammy should continue to read more articles about the benefits of resistance training in late life and also read about

As fitness professionals working with individuals with diabetes there are numerous considerations we must contemplate. For one thing we need to realize we are part of a team approach for these individuals. We need to be very cognizant that we operate within our own scope of practice, as diabetes is a disease that requires specialized approaches from physicians, dietetic experts and fitness professional for each individual’s situation. In addition to this we need to make sure before accepting the responsibility of training a diabetic client, that we have the proper diabetes education and proper certifications. The diagnosis of Diabetes is one that can shake the client to their core and stir every feeling and emotion the person could possibly experience and possibly completely overwhelm the individual. It’s vitally important that they learn to re-establish a sense of control and literally learn new survival skills. (Zrebiec) No matter if it is a parent of a child who has been recently been diagnosed or an adult who just heard the news regarding their own health, the initial situation is the same. To these people it’s going to be like taking a post-graduate course in diabetes management (Zrebiec) and exercise is going to become big part of it. However, this need for an appropriate exercise plan will bring about its own set of challenges due to the complicated nature of the disease. As individuals with diabetes they face some of the same challenges other parties face when exercise is something they know they need to do. They too face challenges of lack of time, lack of energy or will power, they may feel they lack the skills or even the resources. However, when it comes to a teen becoming more involved in exercise there may be two o...
We discussed methods/ and or techniques that allows organization to learn how to effectively use these stages of Transtheoretical Model of Change and how it relates to change. “This model emphasizes the decision making of the individual and has been applied to a wide variety of problem behaviors including alcohol and drug abuse, smoking, and overeating. The Transtheoretical Model of Change describes change as a process—rather than a single event— that involves progress through a series of stages. The primary organizational constructs of the Transtheoretical Model of Change are the Stages of Change and the Processes of Change.” Tomlin, K., Walker, R. D., Grover, J., Arquette, W. & Stewart, P. (2005). Also, figuring out solutions but using this method of approach to help change the behavior by overcoming their lack of motivation. How will we overcome it? By using the motivational interviewing approach/ and or stages to help guide organizations through

The TTM has 5 phases that are dynamic, meaning a person can go up and down though the spiral of the model. The first stage is pre-contemplation followed by contemplation, preparation, action and finally maintenance. Pre-contemplation is the stage at which a person has no signs of intention of changing their exercise levels and don’t see their lack of exercise as a possible risk. When a person moves into the contemplation phase of the TTM they are beginning to see reasoning behind why they should change their exercise levels. This may be they physical are not capable of doing activities or feel self conscious about their physical appearance and how they are perceived by not only themselves but others in their life. This person will have intentions to change this behaviour generally in the first 6 months upon entering the phase, however as the TTM is dynamical they can also slip back to phase one of pre-contemplation. In this phase they may briefly look at what is involved in the...
Throughout my life, I have always loved physical fitness and athletics. Unfortunately, due to a horrible knee injury at the end of my senior year of high school’s basketball season, my athletic lifestyle came to a screeching halt. Ever since I have gone through physical therapy and gotten back on my feet, I have had the desire to pursue a career in the field of health and fitness and my goal is to become a personal fitness trainer so I may help others reach their fitness goals and teach ways to be active safely and help prevent major injuries. I have always had a love and passion for health and fitness. I have become more sensitive to the importance of exercise and the related issues of nutrition and fitness for the avoidance of injury to the human body. Especially now that I
I was surprised to learn that successful aging is a combination of physical and functional health, high cognitive functioning, and active involvement with society. It was interesting to learn that these factors could lead to a lower risk of disease and disability. As
The Transtheoretical Model is used to understand how individuals change health behaviors. Use of this model aids in developing interventions, appropriate for each stage of the change process. The model includes a total of six stages of change, which are: precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, maintenance, and termination (Glanz, Rimer, & Viswanath, 2015). During the precontemplation stage, individuals have no intentions of taking action to change their behaviors within the following six months. During the contemplation stage individuals have an intention to change their behavior within the next six months. Individuals of the preparation stage, intend to take action to change the health behavior within the next 30 days. Action
In middle-aged and older persons, especially postmenopausal women and patients treated with medications that may cause bone loss should be given an exercise prescription. Resistance exercise targeting major muscle groups is recommended 2 to 3 days per week at ~70% to 80% of 1 RM, 2 to 3 sets, and 6 to 8 repetitions per set. They should begin with lighter loads, adding weight in small increments until desired loads are achieved. Proper posture and lifting technique are crucial concerns, so that they do not injure themselves during exercises.
In the Philippines, the ages to be considered a senior citizen are those who are aged 60 years old and over. The senior citizens made up 6.8 percent of the 92.1 million household populations in 2010, higher than the 6.0 percent recorded in 2000 and the number reached over six million in 2011 and it is seen to double in 16 years. The number of people 60 years old and above, or those considered as senior citizens, has increased, as the country's household population increases. With the growing number of senior citizens, there is a generalized notion associated with senior citizens such as degeneration and decline of health and well being but on the contrary, most of them are still active and productive, performing significant roles at home and
According to the 2016 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) conducted from 1999-2006, an estimated 34% of the U.S. population has some degree of metabolic syndrome. (1) A person is diagnosed with metabolic syndrome when he or she “has high blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist, and abnormal cholesterol or triglyceride levels that occur together and increases his or her risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes”. (2) People who have developed diabetes and heart disease often take medication. Imagine if a person could take medicine that would prevent metabolic syndrome by reducing blood pressure, controlling body weight and managing blood sugar. Unfortunately, there are no drugs that prevent
