Self-analysis of Transoceanic Stereotypes First, I think what I have learned outside of school is more memorable than my academic learning experiences, and I think that I have more insights about which topic I have chosen. These factors would make the topic easier to write for me. Second, I chose Stereotypes as the title of my essay at the beginning. However, after I was revising the essay, I think that Stereotypes was too general. So, I changed it to Transoceanic Stereotypes. The essay is based on my personal experiences, and tells how I faced transoceanic stereotypes when I traveled to United States from China three years ago. Barry believes that despite the fact that people are against stereotypes they still will always fall back on them; and Staples believes that people need to change themselves in order to not fit into those common stereotypes. They prove this through the history of gender discrimination in the 19th century factories, and through the 1970-1980’s and also up until today’s racial discrimination in the media. However, if we all hate stereotypes, then why do we always seem to be falling back on them?
