Transformational leadership is based on self-interest, inspirational, and motivation that it is used to communicate with others. This type of leadership focus on a long term vision for the company, and it creates the values of the firm. Usually employees in the firm are influence by the company leader’s beliefs and values. On the other hand, transformational leaders use power to manipulate others and transformational leaders tend to focus on self-interest on the decision making process. Transactional leadership is more like a supervision performance where the leader ensure that employees are working correctly, and employees are meeting the expectations of the company. This type of leaders enhance their values into the employees, so they can manipulate the employees easily. Also, transformational leaders can use their power to support decision that will benefit them. Transactional leadership is based on power and management, more than anything, it uses power to achieve goals of the company by punishing or rewarding employees. Transactional leaders have big control over the employees, and usually employees work under pressure to achieve the expectation of the leaders. If I were a follower, I would follow a transformational leadership, as long as the leader have moral values, integrity, honesty, etc., I will not have a problem following a transformational leader whose only goal is to motivate the employees to reach the company objectives. As a leader, I would prefer to be transformational leader rather than a transactional leader. I will like to be a transformational leader because I will like to inspire others to be successful, to work hard for their dreams, to create a vision that will reward the company and the employees at the same time, I don’t believe I would be selfish. Transformational leadership describes a leader moving followers beyond immediate self-interests through idealized influence (charisma), inspiration motivation, intellectual stimulation, or individualized consideration. Transformational leaders are change agents. They influence the mission and objectives to make way for a brighter future for the organization. In relation to group work transformational leadership helps to grow common values and beliefs, and to inspire group members to reach their group goals. In this type of situation, leaders treat equally towards members and to make them feel comfortable. However, on occasions problems occur during team work which puts a leader into a situation to overcome the condition. For example, if one of my team members has no belief in me to lead the group, my attitude towards the group and the member will change as they have shown a lack of confidence and interest in teamwork. According to Novicevic, Harvey, Buckley, Brown & Evans (2006) explains that authentic leadership is when a leader shows their individual responsibility in what they were responsible for in their organization. I absolutely agree with the “Transformational Leadership Theory”. It breaks down into two parts, one is Transformational Leader and the other is Transactional Leader. While Transformational leaders are charismatic, considerate and inspirational, they align workers goals with their own which helps employees focus more on their job and the well-being of the company rather than themselves. The Transactional Leaders are almost the opposite, they still make sure that the workers do their jobs correctly and behave properly, but in exchange for that, manager offers rewards. Whether its active manager by exception or passive manager by exception, both leave the workers to do their job and not interfere, only difference is that passive manager will only come to the rescue when something gone terribly wrong. I have worked at a place where my manager was a Transactional Leader, and the harder I worked the more money benefits I got and sometimes there were competitions and for winning you were rewarded with a gift of some sort, that kind of motivation made me work smarter and faster but there was no bond between the manager and I, now I have a job where the use of Transformational leadership is more common.
