Transferable Skills Transferable skills are building skills that help with various stages of life and career exploration. Some of these skills are time management, computer literacy, writing skills, and listening. These skills are important for my career choice of becoming a registered nurse. The career I plan to have interacts with people verbally, through the computer and can be full of many daily tasks. Listening skills are important to have because of the interaction with different patients. It is very helpful to know basic computer skills when working as a nurse because you need to be able to send e-mails to doctors, other clinics and important staff members. Many of the offices now use an online database to enter charts for patients
and the basic knowledge of a computer can help navigate through the system. Another important skill for a registered nurse is time management skills. These skills include being able to complete a large amount of tasks in a short period of time, keeping my area, desk or space organized, and maintaing a schedule to finish tasks on time. The skills that are most important to me and my lifestyle now are time management skills and problem solving. I must be able to efficiently complete homework and chores while also balancing other extra cirricular activites like sports and selling tickets for a class fundraiser. I also need to be a problem solver. This means being prepared for oncoming problems like finishing work early because I'm missing a period of school for a dentist appointment. The skill I have done best on is time management. I am very organized and think ahead to make sure I have time to complete what I need to do. I am also very good at working on a schedule and completing tasks on time. Skills I could work on are writing and active listening skills. I can improve on this by practicing. All in all, transferable skills are important for my life and career to be a sucess. It is important for me to understand and effectively use these skills as I work as a registered nurse in the future. It is also important to use my skills now to effciently prepare for my future.
To be deemed competent in skills according to nursing regulations and requirements. This is a challenging factor for many students, as they enter the transition period. This is due to students feeling they do not have the desired clinical competency that promotes the skills and abilities of a registered nurse (Harsin, Soroor & Soodabeh, 2012). Clinical research studies have found that students do have the required expected levels of knowledge, attitude and behaviour’s. However, the range of practical skills aren’t sufficient for the range of practice settings (Evans, 2008).
Some of the best LPNs are compassionate toward their patients and patient with them because of their state of health, both of which are necessary. Also, a LPN should be detail oriented and have a good measure of stamina to work long hours and perform some physical-demanding tasks. Due to the constant contact with patients and fellow medical workers, a LPN should also have good speaking skills and interpersonal skills. After reviewing this skills and giving some thought to the matter, I chose to purse a career in nursing
Everyday in this world, elderly, adults, teens or children become ill or get into accidents and need medical attention. Whether these elderly, adults, teens or children are taken to a hospital, pediatrician, specialist, or clinic, a doctor and a nurse will tend to them. The nurse plays a role that is just as important as the doctor. Nurses work very closely with the families as part of the caring process. Every member of the family plays a role in different ways. The nurses are there to help the patient as well as the family step through the illness or injury. They provide information for the prevention of future illness and injury, and help to comfort the patient and his/her family. It is vital that a nurse understands that to be a nurse, you need a certain personality and understanding of the field.
The processes and skills listed below are all relevant to nurses working in the contemporary hospital environment today. Interpersonal skills are the life skills we use every day to communicate and interact with people. “To effectively communicate we must realize that we are all different in the way we perceive the world and use this understanding to guide our communication with others.” (Anthony Robbin). It is important for the nurse to be aware of the effects their personal values and beliefs can have on their patients.
Nursing has always been a key career in the health care system. Although it is not often focused on media and stories surrounding health care, nursing is a career of great importance. If any patient was asked about their experience at a hospital or a care center, many would mention the capability and care that they received from the nurses. My journey to finally realizing of becoming a student in this RN Executive Program has been a long journey filled with excitement and disappointing periods. I 've started this quest in the Summer of 2015 and here I am, two years later, starting my first class in the program, Nursing 301.
Although prospective nurses might not posses these skills prior to becoming a nurse, the multiple years of higher education allow for the strengthening of these communication skills. Verbal, nonverbal, and written communications are skills I am still developing, but later in my career as a nurse these skills will be essential for providing the best care and treatment for patients.
Registered Nursing is a well-known job here in the United States and many other countries as well. RN’s play an important role in today’s society and contribute to the community a lot. Their job consist of keeping people healthy and caring for the ones who need it. I chose this topic for my research paper because I feel that it would be an interesting job and I would love to learn more about the field itself.

There are even skills to help get you started as a nurse. Some general skills a nurse needs to have or acquire is; communication, ability to pay attention to detail, confidence, and adaptability (“Work it daily”). More specific skills would include; compassion, ethics, critical thinking, stamina, and commitment to new developments (“Work it daily”). All of these skills are important, except some require more from you. For instance, the general skills are skills that should come to you when working with patients. As a nurse you should pay attention to details of your patient that way nothing is wrong, or if something is you inform the patient and the family. Communication, confidence, and adaptability are key to a nurse's daily job because they use those skills every day. The more specific skills needed are those that you learn from your day to day experiences. All of these skills or traits are important but there are also six key skills nurses need to have to help progress their careers. Skills being; attention to detail, desire to learn, critical thinking, flexibility, and effective communication (“Ericksen”). Those five skills may be the same as those above but these are the key components to have when first starting. Finally, the last major key component is as a nurse you must be calm under pressure
In the near future my goal is to further my studies; in the nursing field as a Registered nurse. Personally, my main objectives to become a Registered nurse are, to help save the lives of other, accomplishing my goal, and living life more independently. These are the qualities that would best describe personality: enthusiastic, loving, caring, compassionate, honest, and a cheerful individual. I grow up to have deep passionate love for people, especially those that are unable to help themselves on a daily basis. I always vision myself attending to someone’s rescue; that is in danger or in critical condition. What I have noticed from a long time ago; is that the nursing industry is one out of many that devotes their time, patient, and input hard work and effort to help meet the need of others and make a difference.
Reflective Practice is a continuous action that directly affects anyone who is a practitioner. Jasper (2006, p. 53) stated that the benefits to the profession are the development of the nursing knowledge base and the recognition that nurses are contributing to both patient care and improved practice. Further, Jasper (2006, p. 43) explains that Reflective Practice is the foundation upon which reflection and reflective learning are based.
Why I want to be a nurse? I have asked myself this question numerous times, and have come up with a variety of answers. I think that being a nurse just embodies the characteristics that I have innately had and characterizes the person I am now. Nursing is more than a profession to me; it encompasses my life in every aspect. Nursing challenges me, nothing is ever exactly the same each day. There are so many opportunities in nursing and so many ways to challenge myself and learn new things.

They are required to perform many different jobs for their patients, Registered nurses are required to, “administer medication, consult with other healthcare providers, monitor patients, educate individuals and family and be responsible for managing medical records. They must also stay up-to-date with new tools and technology to help provide the best care to patients and families,” (Heinrich).
