The Invention of The Tractor The invention of the tractor has made massive changes in our world today. Many people use tractors and they are a necessity to some. Tractors have also revolutionized many different things such as construction. They also have evolved and become more efficient and useable in the twenty-first century. The tractor was the most important invention because, without the tractor, the world would not go round. BenBenjamin Holt was born in 1849 and died in 1920. He was the president of the Holt Manufacturing Company of Stockton. He made the first tractor which had wooden wagon wheels. Even with the first tractors with steam engines, they have made a huge impact on farming. Then with the later invention of the gasoline engine, they became even more essential for farms because they provided advantages with collecting crops and plowing dirt. This gave farmers more time to do other things and make their farm better. They also make farming more profitable and a more industrial business. The tractors also provided the farmers to not have to raise horses and crops to feed them (From horses to tractors, changes in U.S. Agriculture, 2005). The farmers used to have to plant a lot of oats to feed their animals which made a large portion of the land not profitable. In 1954, farmers planted around 16 million acres of oats and by the two-thousands, they only plant 1 million acres of oats(From horses to tractors, changes in U.S. Agriculture, 2005). This made a lot more of their land available for a more profitable crop such as soybean and corn. Soybean is rated the second most profitable crop right behind corn(From horses to tractors, changes in U.S. Agriculture, 2005). For example, they are used in war and construction. They have become a very useful tool for many people in America and the world. This invention was the most important because tractors revolutionized the farming industry. Almost everything that you buy in a grocery store was handled with a tractor. Also, many large corporations would not be as successful and some would not even be there. In the war, tractors are used to build barriers.
