It was two days before the track meet. The fastest kid on our relay team got hurt and we had a backup in his place. The backup that was put in, was new to middle school track and that eventually would show in the track meet. There was one last practise before the track meet and I wasn't going to be there. This practise was for all the relay runners. It would be the first and only time that the whole relay team would get to run together. I never got to see how the person behind me would handoff but that never affected the team.
The track meet was on a Tuesday and the nerves didn’t hit me until the night of the day before. I had a hard time going to sleep the night before but the day came fast. The next morning we were told to go to our first hour class for about 45 minutes and wait to be called to the lunch area. The class that I had was science and that was the longest 45 minutes of my life. When we were finally called, about eight people got up to leave. When we got down to the commons, we realized it was raining. I was kind of
After we got up to the stands to find a place to sit, we started to do some warmup laps. Some rookies were practically running their race and getting tired. We knew from experience that's exactly what you don’t want to do. After that it was pretty much just a waiting game. We got there at about 9:00 and I didn’t start getting ready for my event until about 2:15. Most of the time I sat up there and talked, but I would go out onto to the main field and talk to the shot putters while they threw. At about 12:30 or 1:00 my mom got there but the nerves for the race started to kick in. She had brought Goldfish which were my favorite snack and I started to stress eat. I had to force myself to put them down before I got sick and I went down to the main field and started to practise with my team. Eventually the time came and we were called into the
Those few more seconds passed, and the starter called us all to the line. He then placed us in our assigned lanes, and we
I woke up at six to shower and eat breakfast. We were out the door and 6:30 and off to Ashland, Nebraska. We had the hammer down only stopping in Ashland to grab three Red Bulls apiece. We chugged our energy drinks while driving a couple miles out of town to the raceway hoping to get awaken by the rush of the sugar. We parked our truck by our buddy Jacob after getting signed in and paying our entry fees. We made fun of Jacob for awhile for being such a die hard and having to be one of the first ones at the track. Setting up our canopy and unloading our bikes took about 5 minutes because we wanted to hurry up and walk the track. The track was a freaking mud pit. They had overwatered it. I was hoping that it would stay a little muddier after practice until the moto’s because I could out ride three-fourths of the guys in my class in the mud. After the track walk we all walked back to our trucks and got our gear on. The C riders were first to practice. The first kid to start up his bike just revved the piss out of it not letting it warm up like it should. We started shaking our heads because our dads taught us to respect your things and not mistreat them. Leaving our little camp
We took the field in the second half. We won the face off this time. We went down the field, shot the ball, and the goalie saved it. He threw the ball up to his forward right in front of me, and I stepped up and hit the kid to prevent him from getting the pass and scoring. When I hit him, he fell straight to the ground and I couldn’t see where the ball was. It bounced and went in the net. I was so embarrassed at that point.
The sun was heating all of them up, which made it a bit worse. The team sat down under the tent and just sat there, quiet and thinking. A worker from competition stood in front of them and took them to a gym. They had 10 minutes to practice. When the 10 minutes were over they were all waiting for the call, to walk to the gym where they would be performing. Time was going very fast, 20 minutes seemed like 5. A worker went to them and said, "its time, please line up." The chills ran up there spine, each one of them had
I ran faster than I ever thought I would. It was a regular Thursday meet, and I was running varsity that day as a freshman. I had never gone through this process before so everything that happened that day took me by surprise. The insane course, other runners, and the intimidating fans all made it something worth remembering. I saw everything from runner's fainting, the after race vomiting, and the crying from pain. That did not have an affect on me as I found myself gaining confidence every time I moved my feet. I kept passing other runners and my immediate thought was “did I go the wrong way?” or “did I miss a turn?.” I did not know that running came easier to me than it did to other people. Maybe it was the hard work I put in at practice
A summer day when the tempeature got much higher than expected and I wasn’t prepared. It was summer football practice. The time was 10:30 in the morning. When the team was running, it was 80 degrees. It wasn’t so bad until it got later in the day hotter.
“Give 2024 Boston Olympics a chance!” was invoked on social network, after Mayor Marty Walsh announced 2024 Boston Olympic bid. Due to the hundred years of development, the Olympic spirit has influenced and inspired generation after generation. Now, the Olympics is not only a athletic match, but also a stage for the host to show off. Hosting the Olympics in Boston would provide a wonderful opportunity to build a valuable legacy not only for Boston, but also for the Olympic movement. The 2024 Boston Olympic Games should be held to enhance quality of life for the residents in the greater Boston region.
Track and field is a sport that contains many different disciplines, including track sprints, track distance races, and field events, which include javelin throwing and pole-vaulting, among others. While predominantly an individual sport (except for relay races), in high school athletics, track and field athletes earn points based on their finishes toward an overall team score. Each athlete in each event should perform their best for two reasons: their individual result and their team score.
The moment of truth was upon me. The official times, this includes whom qualified for finals, for the 400m relay had been posted. My eyes scanned the page for the bold letters that spell ANDERSON. As I ran my finger across the page to where the times were posted, my ears began to shut out all outside noises, leaving me alone with the thump of my heart and the inhale and exhale of my lungs. Both began to increase in speed as my eyes narrowed in on the time.
The Chaffey Water Polo team went to a school named Shadow Hill to go into the finals for the C.I.F. competitions. We had worked hard to get that far and the team, including our coach , Coach Carlos, were stressed. I was a bit pardoned by anxiety, because I wasn't on the varsity team and also, I wasn't playing. I was on junior varsity and my fellow teammates and I, were just merely supporting our varsity team during the games, the only cause for us to enter the pool would have to be that a player had a freak accident and injured himself , forcing anyone on junior varsity to play with varsity in the competition. So on the day we went to Shadow Hills, we really were stressed, I could almost smell the anxiety irradiating off the team. When we got there, we did our normal routine , stretch for minutes, warm up for 45 , and relax and try to calm our butterflies till the game started.
With the world constantly making unfamiliar and constant problems for us can be wonderful and horrible all at the same time because you could learn from every experience. The day of the relay race I am sitting in the hot and humid risers. I’m worried I’m going to fail, throw up, and my body will decide it doesn’t feel like running
When I had got to the track for practice, I was in an jovial mood. Only to find out that I had shown up to run one of the hardest workouts of the year. The workout that was given to us was five-minute and twenty-second mile pace and not only was that a quick speed, but we had to run three in a row with
Seventh grade was the first year an individual could try out for a varsity team and me being un-athletic had no intention of joining one. School ended at two o’clock and as I walked towards the bus I noticed a
It was November 1st and it was the day of my last volleyball game. I ran into my friend Eri and we started talking about the game later that day. It was against Tunkhannock. They were the best volleyball team from our area, and wouldn’t you know it on our senior night we had to play against them. Senior night was the one night where the seniors were recognized, whether they were good or not. The whole day the team was joking about how much we would lose by against our rival team. In a game to fifteen we thought we would end up owing them points.
