There are many disciplines within the world of academia and each plays an important role in the research community. Every discipline is important because each provides a unique perspective and approach to a single field of study. For this project I have chosen to study the topic of Tourism via the perspectives of the field of Economics and the field of Psychology. Economists focuses on understanding how societies and the world as a whole works to allocate resources to satisfy their needs and wants. On the other hand, Psychology focuses on the understanding of theories that explain and predict the behaviors of humans and other living creatures. I chose these two distinct fields because they each have unique goals when it comes to researching …show more content…
Microeconomics focuses more on individual firms while macroeconomics focuses on the economy as a whole. Economists do research to analyse the consequences of economics trends either on a domestic or global scale. Regardless of the scale through which economists decide to study, their goals continue to be the same. In regards to the topic of Tourism, economists seek to understand the aspects of tourism demand and supply and the elasticity of demand and price elasticity of supply. In order to understand these concepts, economists like Guido Candela and Paolo Figini, the authors of The Economics of Tourism and Destinations ask themselves the question, “What can we say about the economics of tourism in relation to economics as a whole?” In order begin their research, the authors begin by establishing their approach, “Our approach is then to consider Tourism Economics as an applied field of study in which assumptions of bounded rationality are largely used and where models of perfect competition are only marginally employed, since they are not particularly relevant for this sector” (Candela and Figini …show more content…
As well, they support their claim that tourism contributes to our personal well-being by using the concept of flow. This theory was introduced by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, a hungarian psychologists, and his theory is defined as “ …an optimal experience that stems from people’s perceptions of challenges and skills in given situations”(Pearce and Filep 2013) The authors analyse this theory because they believe it 's crucial principle to the developing of well-being while engaging in tourist activities. “Flow occurs when the individual is completely engrossed in a challenging activity that does not necessarily provoke too much stress. The experience per se is highly rewarding, hence flow is a satisfying state” (Pearce and Filep

It is the economic effects of tourism which bring the most benefit to the host nation. Tourism is a low import user which means more of the money earned here stays here. The government is earning money through tourist taxes such as the airport tax, increased export earnings and income tax revenue from people employed by the industry. A balance must be struck between these benefits and associated negative impacts on the community and the environment.
Leisure… People put different meanings in this simple word. Some of them may decide to travel, others collect stamps, yet other just simply change their daily activities. What does this word mean to me? Leisure can have a much deeper then that. On the surface it may seam that it is just doing stuff during free time, but looking deeper, it shapes who a person is.

The term disaster tourism describes leisure traveling to areas struck by natural disasters. Even though a natural disaster is for the most of the cases an unpleasant and sad event, many tourists pay and travel just because of possibility to see it either during its‘ process or after it to see the consequences. They do it mostly because of curiosity and desire to see something rare. It has been argued that such trips are also seeked by people because of the option of puting our lives into perspective. This type of tourism provides also an option to use it as pedagogical intstrument for communities to make the time of recovery from disasters more effective and shorter.

There are multiple similarities and differences between anthropology and tourism. Similar because they both involve observing the culture of another society, but different in how it is conducted and how it can affect people. Anthropology is meant to be a respectful, ask for permission, and make sure that there is no obstruction of boundaries. The main goal of anthropology is to research and understand the way people do things and how the society works. Tourism, on the other hand, can be seen as obtrusive and offensive to the host’s culture. Tourism focuses much more on attractions, helping the tourist experience a change, and is a huge economic business. They each have different rules and

Japan is a country with countless attraction and points of interest, whether its heritage, food, popular culture or dark tourism, Japan as a tourism destination can offer many things. Because of the saturation of culture there are many types of tourism which apply (Berger 2010). Cultural tourism, adventure, ecotourism, food and family tourism and even sex tourism to name a few and with the increasing relevance of Otaku1 culture in the western world, Japans popularity as a holiday destination has increased drastically. The popularity of Japanese tourism can largely be attributed to the growing cultural interest displayed by the visitors which means that cultural exploration is one of the more significant reasons of visitation.
