Toughness In Basketball

Toughness is just a term that many individuals use to describe they’re ability to believe that their not weak in any way. Playing the game of basketball and being a part of the team is more than just being tough. Basketball is more of being determined, strong, and willing to become a better athlete. When you have the mindset that I am tough and no one can give you pointers to make your game better. Does not make you an athlete nor makes you tough. What makes any ball player tough are the struggles and the process you go through to make you better. We as players have our ups and downs. As soon as we give up, were no longer determined, strong, and willing. As soon as we give up this problem is what makes us weak, and what coach wants a weak player on their team that gives up in any possible way. There are three words that describe the term tough and these words are being determined, being strong , and willing to learn and become an overachiever in the game of basketball.

Playing the game of basketball for 15 years, I’ve learn that these three words describe the term toughness.

What is Determination? Determination “is a quality that makes you continue to do or achieve something that is difficult”. When you have that goal and the mindset that I can, I will, and I must be the best that I can be makes you determined. Through all the obstacles that you may encounter will make your goal difficult to reach. As soon as you set in your mind, “that I am determined” to do what I have to do makes is what makes you a tough player. After setting your determination, next in line is being strong while you go through the process of achieving your

goal.
The word strong means “having great physical power and ability, and also having a lot of strength not easy to break or damage”. Going through practice and getting chewed out by coaches, having disagreements with your teammates, and having bad games. Makes you want to break your determination, and it makes you want to walk out. When you think about it you as a player can do anything you put your mind to. Remember you can do all things through Christ which gives you strength. When you know and have the ability to tell yourself that I will not break and I will fight until the end will make you strong. Being determined towards your goal, being strong to go through the obstacles in the process, and willing to learn to make you a better athlete.
Willing to become a better player makes you not ordinary, but it makes you extraordinary. You determined in your mind what you wanted your goal to be, you became strong within yourself, and willing to learn to become a better athlete makes you tough. Tough “physically and emotionally strong, able to do hard work, and to deal with harsh conditions”. When you go through this process, this is what makes you a strong individual, but it also makes you a strong athlete on and off the court. It is not all about how strong physically that makes you tough, but what makes you tough is going through the harsh condition that comes with the game of basketball, and being able to work really hard to accomplish your goals. Three words that describe tough for me; Determination, strong, and willing to become a better athlete.
