Total Drama Island is a spoof off of CBSs hit show survivor. It has a more dramatic aspect of everything in the show such as the host, competions, contestenants and elimination night. The cartoon uses stereotypical teenagers to make fun of all of the drama that happens on every season of the show. Tom McGills and Jennifer Pertsch created a show called Total Drama Island, a parody of the hit series Survivor, in order to add more humor and make fun of their clichés.
Total Drama Island is based at a place called Camp Wawanakwa which is a disgusting deserted Island just off of Ontario, Cananda. Survior’s location changes from season to season, but is always an isolated area and the surrounding area’s are commonly a tropical island one would vacation

too. Total drama imitated the idea of an isolated island in a more populated place. Having Camp Wawanakwa in Oneterio adds to the feeling the viewers have about how in reality the islanders can walk a couple miles to civilazation and they aren’t far off from the real world. Naming the camp Wawanakwa is also a dig at the fact that, many times the location of Survivior or the team names are very complicated to pronounce such as Kaôh Rōng, Pulau Tiga and Aitutaki. As for the actually camp grounds in Total drama, they are already set up for them, however it is extremely run down and basically unlivable, especially when there is tough weather. This replicates Survivor in the fact that the contests are given a few tools that they can use to build a shelter, but every season the base camp looks unbearable and like it could fall apart at any second. They are essintialy supposed to know how to survive but their shelter building skills are not ussually the best. Then on both shows almost every season they run into bad weather so it reminds the viewers of how bad the living conditions really are. No matter how bad the sleeping situations are though, they are never as bad as the bathroom. Total Drama Island talks about the portapotty situatuion a lot, whether it is how bad they smell or how sick someone is getting in them. This hints at how often the producers of Survivor shows the contests taking a bathroom break in the ocean and how that is one thing the viewers could live with out seeing. On every season there is one person who gets an upset stomach and talks to the camerea about how bad they bodily functions are. However once voted off the show, life gets a whole lot better.
The cartoon created a place called Playa Des Losers, where once the contestants have been eliminated they go there and party. It is the complete opposite of the enviorment that they just came from. On Playa Des Losers they deffientely do not feel like losers because they are living in luxuiary. This is very similar to what Survivor has called Ponderosa, which is an incredibly nice house or resort with a spa and unlimited drinks and food. Those who make it to the jury get to go enjoy life off the show there, and live life with their former allies as well as enimies. Even though they are off the show there is still the occasinal drama that they bring there from the backstabs and blindsides they felt from the competetion. It is hilarious to watch the people on both Ponderosa and Playa Des Losers as they kick back, relax and watch the rest of the drama unfold amongst their friends still in the …show more content…
game. Survivor also seems to have a lot of stereotypical people on their show and Total Drama has captured that and made that one of their key points in the parody.
Total drama island always creates their charecters to be the common stereotypes such as a punk rock guy, a strong cocky guy, a dumb blond, a nerdy girl, a cowboy, a cheerleader and a gross guy that is into things like farts. This is very similar to the basic cast of Survior, two seasons, they have even had the teams be brawns, vs. brains vs. beauty. Then both shows break them up into teams, purposely putting the personalities together to create certain situations, which makes for a whole lot of drama when they form alliances and the teams get switched around. Total Drama loves to show this aspect through characters such as Alejandro in World Tour where he would constantly make short term alliances just to backstab them so he was able to advance in the game. Of course, being stranded on an island together relationships are bound to occur. Total Drama makes fun of these cliché’s with one couple Emma and Noah, where Emma is constantly saying that she doesn’t want a relationship because she wants to focus on the game. Of course they end up together and show their happily ever after in the finale episode, just like Rob Mariano and Amber Brkich-Mariano who got engaged on the season
finale. The cartoon will also do a lot of exaggerating, especially with the competition. Total Drama has a competition where they have to jump off a thousand foot cliff into a tank of sharks. Survivor is still very intense where they have to be behind bars underwater with little breathing room to get the feeling of drowning. The survivor challenge makes you feel like you are going to die where as if real people were to do the challenge in Total Drama they really would be dead. Even within the challenges Total Drama will exaggerate the injuries with people such as Beth where she has gotten electrocuted by an eel, knocked off the bridge, and mauled by wild animals. While there are quite a few injuries that take place it is usually something more along the lines of stung by a jellyfish, dehydration or they ate something they weren’t supposed to. Even when these injuries do occur if they are deadly then they will immediately be taken out of the game and won’t magically get better ten minutes later. Total Drama Island takes the reality and seriousness out of the show Survivor and adds a lot more childish humor. It focuses in on aspects of the hit series and turns it around from suffering of the real contests to the punch line of the cartoon. For a million dollars, would you survive?
The main point of this documentary is a strong one. Strong Island is a documentary describing the effects of a crime going without justice to a family that had no other option but to move on. The documentary goes into the lives of the family of William Ford’s family and friends before and after his murder.
The failing television networks have found a number of elements in reality shows which can save them money. These elements have combined to improve rating, while also improving the amount of money brought into the networks. The networks have had pressure from stockholders to improve the return on their investments, or possible begin to lose their money. So the networks have discovered ways to save money with reality’ shows one being they haven’t had to pay actors. From drunken arguments/ fights to nearly everyone hating each other in the house at some point, Jersey Shore seems to have it all. There’s something about watching drunken guys or girls fight that is both humorous and entertaining. Drama seems to drive this fast pace show leading to no dull moments throughout. Every episode seems to take another turn leaving the viewer to want more. I believe the reason why people enjoy the drama infused during the show because it almost makes them feel better about themselves. People seem to enjoy watching a train wreck of idiotic drama because like the cast everyone has their own struggles in life and by seeing their problems on national television it reiterates that no one is

The story of Shutter Island revolves around Marshall Teddy Daniels, and his partner Chuck Aule, and their journey to a remote and barren island to investigate the mysterious disappearance of an inmate from the mental asylum. The island is home to a fortress-like mental institution, Ashcliffe Hospital, which houses 66 of the most dangerous criminals in the country. From the very beginning, Martin Scorsese introduces the viewers to the theme of isolation. In the opening scene, Scorsese uses the boat ride as a sign that illustrates how the island is being distanced from reality. The viewers are never introduced on unfiltered view of "the real world" outside of the asylum. The only available information about reality beyond t...

Overcoming adversity is imperative. In fact, you can 't have the happiness and success you want unless you have adversity in your life and overcome it. It is essential for progressing into who you want to be. It shows you what you are made of. It teaches you more about yourself, how to approach what you want, and how to maintain the success that you have. Without it, you wouldn 't know how far you could go or how capable you are because you wouldn 't have anything to push you or compare to.
We see that even celebrities are like this, so it becomes socially acceptable to be selfish or sociopathic. This is because “[reality shows] tell us that existence is to be centered on the practices and desires of the self rather than the common good” (Hedges, 32). The goal of a reality show is to acquire the sought after fame and wealth. Regardless of the method used to get to the end goal, people will do whatever it takes to reach it. This is why reality shows immensely influence the social relations we make in life. Seeing people on television doing these unnecessary and malevolent actions, it urges us to do the same; as if doing so, will help us reach our own end goal. And this is precisely what happens in the reality show “Survivor,” as Tina, Mad Dog Maralyn’s best friend, casts her vote to eliminate her, despite their friendship. It didn’t matter how strong their friendship was, when it came to winning, Tina paid no heed to Mad Dog. She states after her vote, that “it [had] nothing to do with [Mad Dog]. This vote has everything to do with a promise I made. I love you" (Hedges, 32). This sort of backstabbing betrayal is only further intensified by the magnitude of competition. Tina clearly could not prioritize her friendship with Mad Dog in a setting in which winning meant everything. She was blinded by the temptations of greed and the desire to be a celebrity. Another way to put it, is that “human beings [have] become a commodity in [the] celebrity culture… They are objects, like consumer products” (Hedges, 29). As a society, individualism has been cruelly thrown out for the pristine image celebrities are presented to us by the media. No longer do we value the unique individuals, we all want to become celebrities; manufactured to the point where we do not have an identity of our own. Celebrity images are essentially reflections of
The Island is indeed an actor's play, for acting is its central metaphor and idea: acting as a means for the acting out of one's life, acting as a form of survival, and acting as a basis for (political) action.
