Financial Wellness Financial wellness is a necessity for successfully going through not only college but all of life. Managing your finances can be stressful especially when there is such much to do in the world. Something I am really passionate about is traveling. My parents instilled this into me from when I was very young. Now that I am older, it is time for me to adventure on my own without my parents. It is exciting until I realize I have no money to do so. On iGrad, I decided to look up travel and what I found was an article titled, “Top Tricks for Cheap Student Travel This Summer,” by Mackenzie Maher. This article brought up many ideas I never even thought of. Here are just a few I thought were interesting. Travel websites that cater
specifically to students is something I had never heard of. Subscribing to a website like this will notify you when great deals are being offered. A lot of times these deals will include airfare, hotel, and sometimes even tours. After doing this, ask around and see if your colleagues would want to join. It is noted that you can sometimes get special deals and fares for traveling in groups. Plus, it would be more fun with a group of your friends. Another inexpensive way to travel is to stay in hostels or travel to a country where the dollar has more value. Many countries in Asia can be an extremely cheap place to travel. This is one thing I knew before reading this article actually because of my cousin who moved to Thailand two years ago. The hotel, food, and experiences are very cheap, the only expensive part would be your flight there. These are all things to think about when traveling. I am glad to have these tips for future reference when traveling in the future. Hopefully I will be in a well financial state when the time comes for me to travel. I also am looking forward to studying abroad, which is another good alternative for traveling when you are young and not in the best financial state.
Mark Wyman, the author of the brief essay known as Coming and Going: Round-Trip to America, had a different perspective about immigration to America from the various counties during the 1880’s through the 1930’s. A common belief, regarding the immigration to America, held that immigrates stayed in America during the massive shift of population, due to the enormous creation of factories and cities that erupted in America. The past day literature entices readers to believe that all immigrates came to America to work and eventually settled down to create their own families. It’s taught that all of these families stayed in America for their entire life span. Although despite the common belief, Wyman held to his own thoughts on the controversial debate and pioneered a new way of thinking. He believed that countless immigrates, which came from all over the world, actually only
Everyone has different points of views, feelings, reactions, and etcetera. People handle things in different ways. I read the story “Field Trip” by Tim O’brien. The story has emotions, but yet it’s still very settle.
So you decided you want to take a family vacation to Disney for a week. Before you pack your bags you need to plan everything out. You need to start saving up for a trip like this because it is not cheap. Take some money out of your income each pay and it will add up fast if you put it in the bank, it will also add some interest on it. You may be wondering, how much money needs to be saved? Well when you add your transportation, tickets, hotel, house and pet care, food, extras, and more you’ll know. If you want to save faster or can’t take a lot of money out of your income, just cut down on things. For example, buy the off-brand of things instead of the name brand things. Don’t get unnecessary things or if it can wait than wait. Pushing aside the money part, you have to figure out when the right time of the year it is to go to Disney. Is it cheaper a certain time of the year? Is air fare cheaper or gas a certain time? Should we go when school is in or out? A lot of questions to ask yourself before going. September – December, except holiday periods, second week of January – March (except holiday weekends), any rainy days, weekdays. Days not to go are all summer, thanksgiving weekend, weekend before Christmas, the week on either side of Easter and Easter weekend, other holidays, during special events. There is a value season at Disney world which is January 3-6, 10-14, 18-febuary 11, July 18-september 30, November 28- 16.
As a junior in high school, I am forced to consider the possibilities for collegian studies. Boy, there are a lot. There’s approximately five thousand colleges including two and four year schools in the United States alone. This isn’t including the thousands of others in the world. Undoubtedly, I could go to a school in almost any continent, excluding the north and south poles. I could see the Amazon jungle, or the tropical reefs of Australia, or the bitter cold winters of Germany. The possibilities are endless! I want to travel so badly, I have even considered taking a year off, simply to travel; although, since then I have found that colleges also have exchange programs, and semesters abroad in which I could travel while continuing my schoolwork. Obviously, I learned a great amount about my personal future plans for
According to a case study by Daniel Wesley, “Twenty-five percent [of families] said they will spend more than $1,000 on their vacation,” this may not seem to be cause for attention, however, frequent vacationing and frivolous spending leads to less household funds. It is no secret that if families are saving money for vacation funds, then they aren’t likely to spend as habitually. “The growth rate of the real GDP has been higher on average when the personal saving rate is rising than when it is failing,” (Skousen,
Yanyin Yu, or more commonly known by her American name, Nicole Yu, is an international fourth-year transfer student at the University of California, Berkeley. She is of Chinese descent; born and raised in the Guangdong province of southeast China, Nicole didn’t move to America until she turned sixteen years old. She spent her entire childhood in China – receiving an education from Chinese educators, socializing in Mandarin and Cantonese with her friends, and immersing herself in her own native culture for most of her life.
Getting prepared and ready to explore something new is just minor compared to the actual adventure for a senior anticipating the departure of their school trip. I was a member along with 30 other classmates of the co-curricular group called Business Professionals of America, a club organized through our school. Our teachers, club officers, and all of the members had been planning and fundraising for our trip to New York City for months. The excitement grew more and more as each day got closer to take off. All of us were anixious to see The Empire State Building, "Ground Zero," a Broadway play, and the spectacular views of gorgeous ocean sunsets. We had all been told and were aware of the different surroundings of the environment, or culture we would be experiencing when we arrived. Different cultures are common throughout the world, even in different places around the United States. Going on a trip to explore New York City really made the differences in cultures aware to me.
college before you get there, and working to get money to pay cash for college. Being debt free
Studying abroad will be an amazing experience; however it will propose some challenges. Since my parents are divorced my study abroad is supported by three different incomes, which includes my mother, father, and myself. Each of us contributes in paying for this experience and I have worked tirelessly so I can provide enough money to fund for it. My father is helping to fund for my trip; however he is also worrying about my loans. Having already taken a second job to offset the cost of my student loan debt, his limited income can only give so
In December, my boyfriend is heading to Iraq to fight for his country and for all of us in the United States. We have decided together, that upon his arrival home, we will reward ourselves with a vacation. The question we both had though was where should we take this vacation? We both believe that next year will be a really hard time for both of us, being separated for at least a year. I have decided to take the initiative to research our possible destinations with the most affordable rates. Together, we narrowed our choices down and decided to vacation in Hawaii or an island in the Bahamas. So with this information, I decided to research the locations of our choice to help us finalize our decision.
Being a college student can be hard. I do not always get what I want now. Money does rule everything. Without money a person could not even buy necessities. As I ride around with my friends I notice the fact that if you do not have money, you do not have power. I also notice that if you do not have education, you will not have money. Money does rule a lot of things in the life of a college student. As a young adult with minimal responsibilities I would like to go out and have fun from time to time. A person cannot go out and have fun if they do not have money. Being a drug dealer has run across my mind before, but I would rather earn what I
There is an abundance of cultures and lessons that teens can learn about as they travel the world. Many teenagers, however do not realize or take advantage of travel opportunities provided for them and the influence travel can have on their lives. There are many programs out there that give all teens the chance to travel and experience the world firsthand regardless of a family’s income. These travels will influence the growing mind by helping them to understand other cultures without the distant feeling that these places do not concern them. Although it may seem scary to some parents to let their child travel to far off places, teens need the exposure to broaden their knowledge and horizons. More teenagers should travel because traveling abroad not only teaches them more about other cultures, but more about themselves, who they are and who they want to become.
Romance, as it confirms human agency with regards to understanding the world and organizing one's existence, is an enabling genre. Northrop Frye identifies "romance" in its questing, adventurous, persistently nostalgic, and "perennially child-like quality" as the "nearest of all literary forms to the wish-fulfillment dream" (186). Arguably, many of the texts that we have examined over the course of the term can be understood as (more or less) participating in the affirmative conventions of romance in the ways that they show men and woman turning travel into a journey.
College students mostly travel with friends on semester breaks, so if you miss out on those trips you actually miss out on a lot. So those who have missed out on these trips have a lot of regret.
There is nothing quite like traveling, going someplace new and finding out more about the world and yourself. Anyone can become a traveler it just takes a little bit of faith and courage. Traveling across the world or even across the country is a learning experience. When you are a traveler you see how people live and how different cultures work. It is the best educational experience you could give yourself. You see how the world works in a way no one can teach you. Seeing different cultures and people help build the person you want to be. If you are a traveler the world influences you, because when traveling, you see the good and the bad, and you learn from the right and the wrong. I am very lucky that I am able to be a traveler and see this
