Chino’s Story
Two lovers are separated forever after a gang member decides to get revenge. New York City has been a breeding ground for this, and the world is left wondering who is to blame for this senseless tragedy. Arthur Laurents’ West Side Story focuses on two rival gangs, the Jets and the Sharks, in a small area of New York City. Tony, a former member of the Jets, falls in love with Maria, the sister of a Shark. The two gangs decide to settle their rivalry with a rumble between each gang’s best fighter, Riff and Maria’s brother, Bernardo. Things get ugly when Bernardo pulls a knife and stabs Riff. Tony, in the heat of the moment, gets revenge and stabs Bernardo, and both gangs flee the scene before the cops arrive. Tony goes into hiding so that Chino, a Shark, doesn’t try to get revenge on him. When falsely told Maria is dead, Tony decides he wants Chino to kill him. He calls for Chino and Chino kills him. Clearly, Chino is to blame for the tragedy of Tony’s death.
Some may say that Anita is to blame for Tony’s death; however, this is untrue. In 4.1, the Jets lie to her and will not let her see Doc. “I’d like to see Doc...He ain’t here...where is he?...He’s

Saying it is anyone else’s fault is foolish and wrong for there is no one else that pulls the trigger. The night of the rumble, “Another figure appears:Chino...As they run to each other, there is a gun shot. Tony stumbles , as though he has tripped. Maria catches him and cradles him in her arms as he falters to the ground...Chino stands very still, bewildered by the gun dangling from his hand(2.4). Right before this, Tony thinks Maria is dead and calls for Chino to kill him. He doesn’t want to live without Maria. She is actually alive and well and about to hug him before Chino senselessly kills him. Tony does not directly incite Chino to kill him; Chino just wants revenge from Tony killing
“Wes was so confused. He loved and respected his brother. Tony was the closest thing Wes had to a role model. But the more he tried to be like his brother, the more Tony pushed back.” (72) Wes then got his girlfriend pregnant 4 times and dropped out of school to help out with her. With multiple arrests for shooting someone and drug dealing. Tony his "so called role model" helped Wes rob a jewelry store and they were convicted for murdering Sergeant Prothero along the way. Tony's motives were right but he never really got across to Wes with leading him in the right direction. Tony tried to push Wes away from the drug game but Wes was to drawn to it.
Maria had no authority over her restless family. The source of the conflict between Antonio and Maria originates from her oldest sons taking to going where they please and not caring about their parent’s wishes. The burden of pleasing their parents passes from the eldest sons to the youngest one. With the sole duty of pleasing his parents, Tony internally rebels against their wishes instead seeking to set to rest his churning mind by seeking his own beliefs. His brothers console themselves about abandoning their family by saying that “Tony will be her priest” (Anaya 36) and not knowing that the “dreams of their father and mother [haunt] them” (Anaya 36) also haunted Antonio. Having the responsibilities of his brothers and his family shape the way he grows and thinks. He isn’t just thinking about himself he also has the problems of redeeming his family on his head. Through the story and through Ultima Tony realizes that he is not bound by obligations and can instead shape his own
Why is it that we as human beings feel the need to blame someone for every negative situation, which occurs? If we really look at the situation with any great depth, we may discover that an almost endless amount of things may be 'blamed' for the tragedy blaming an individual is pointless - only fate can really be blamed.
Police brutality. Along with Mookie stands against police brutality Mookie also did the right thing because of Sal’s racism towards Mookie and his customers. Furthermore, Mookie did the right thing because Sal’s racism towards his customers. He is racist towards everyone except Jane, Mookie’s sister who Sal is interested in. The only reason why Sal is in the ghetto because he makes a lot of money in that area. Sal only tolerates his customers because he knows if he does something wrong, then he could lose all of his customers. One situation where Sal is racist towards his customer is when Buggin Out asks Sal why he doesn’t have any brothers on the wall, then Sal tells him if he wants brothers on the wall then he can get his own place.Buggin Out asks, “ Yo Mookie, why are there no brothers on the wall?” Mookie says, “I don’t know, ask Sal.” Then Sal says, “You want brothers on the wall get your own place. Do what you want to do...but this is my pizzeria. American Italians on my wall only.” Buggin Out retaliates and says, “Well you own this and rarely do I ever see American Italians eating in here. All I see is black folks, and since we spend much money here, I do have some say.” Sal has had it at this point and asks Buggin Out
At the outset, during one cloudless afternoon in South Central, Los Angeles, a five-year-old juvenile by the forename of Anthony, cycles his training wheel down the pavement of the road while he unwearyingly waits for his mother Ronnie and her boyfriend Caine to finish transporting their properties to the van for their perpetual relocation to the metropolitan city of Atlanta, Georgia. As the adolescent voyages further on down the pathway, a green Pontiac LeMans Sedan comprised of four men with black masks obscuring their discrete identities, deliberately cruise alongside the curb contiguous to the last house on the street. As the four men approach the residence of Anthony and his mother Ronnie, one of the vehicle’s passengers bellows out the phrase, “Yo, what’s up now partner,” and immediately begins to discharge massive gunfire from his Beretta 92F (MIIS). An immense array of blasts erupted at the residence. Caine’s childhood friend Sharif, who was assisting them in the moving procedure, shot, and tumbled onto the lawn instantaneously.
Tony also stands up against a mob for Florence; everyone wants to punish Florence for "not believing in God" (214) and Tony pushes the crowd away and refuses to give Florence the penance that Florence does not deserve. Although Tony knows that he will be given the "Indian torture" (214), he still speaks up for his friend. Anaya often presents Tony as a dependent character, never wanting to "be away from the protection of [his] mother" (51); in fact, he's so close to his mother that it seems that he's going through Oedipus's Complex. Anaya actually does this to increase the impact of Tony's bravery. One might expect Tony to stay in his undercover bushes when Tenorio is standing so close; however, when Tony hears that Tenorio knows the way to kill Ultima, the thought to warn Ultima supercedes his fear and encourages his legs to pick up and run home (255).
The archetypal tragedy of two star-crossed lovers, separated by familial hate, is a recurring theme, which never fails to capture the minds of the audience. It is only at great cost, through the death of the central characters that these feuding families finally find peace. This is an intriguing idea, one antithetical. I have chosen to analyze both Shakespeare 's Romeo and Juliet and Laurent 's West Side Story. The purpose of this essay is showing how the spoken language is utilized in these different plays to meet differing objectives. The chosen scenes to further aid comparison and contrast are the balcony scenes.

1-The story tells, Real facts occurred in the 1940s, where it was a racist society. Gangs were scattered throughout the cities, and regions, and the streets. To live, you have full get away, or belonging to one of them. You should help the gang members that they were right or on falsehood. Also, it is a kind of bigotry, not much different from intolerance, national, ethnic, and sectarian That were prevalent in American society. in fact, it is the inevitable result of this society. When the corruption becomes prevails, injustice and lawless prevails too, and justice will disappear.
Tony saw through the prejudice though, he loved one of the PR's and when the Jets found out, they were ashamed. Tony's love for Maria was so real, he didn't care what happened. He died.Prejudice plagues this world now and forever, as long as there is a difference in people there will discrimination and prejudice.
In the film, West Side Story. The two rival gangs, the jets and the sharks meet at the school disco. They refuse to dance with any member. of the opposing gangs, which results in a dance showdown. At different ends of the dance hall, Maria and Tony lay eyes upon each other.
In West Side Story, the premise is quite similar. The two rival gangs are the Jets- the Americans, and the Sharks- the Puerto Ricans. The Jets hate the sharks because they feel as if they are encroaching on their territory when they walk the streets of New York as easily as the Jets. The Jets and the Sharks have been in a constant state of uproar since the Puerto Ricans first started moving to America and the gangs were formed.... ...
This movie takes place in Los Angeles and is about racial conflicts within a group of people which occur in a series of events. Since there are a wide variety of characters in this movie, it can be confusing to the viewer. In the plot, Graham is an African-American detective whose younger brother is a criminal. His mother cares more about his brother than Graham and she wants Graham to bring his brother back home, which in turn hurts Graham. Graham?s partner Ria is a Hispanic woman who comes to find that her and Graham?s ethnicities conflict when she had sex with him. Rick is the Los Angeles district attorney who is also op...
A main theme in West Side Story is racism. The Jets' sole reason for not liking the Sharks is simply based on the fact that they are Puerto Rican. Even as little kids, we have this natural instinct to fear things we don’t understand. The Jets were intimidated by the Sharks mostly because they didn’t act like them, look the same, or have the same beliefs as them. The same can be said for the Sharks, and it’s because of these differences that these two groups of people were willing to physically hurt each other, even to the point of death. These types of things still happen all the time. People still don’t know how to put aside their differences to find the things they
West Side Story came out in 1961 as a melodramatic musical that took place in New York. It takes the same theme as Shakespeare's, Romeo and Juliet, in that it is about two lovers whose relationship is not accepted by others because of conflicting backgrounds.
