Tom Walker Monologue

“[I] have a wife as miserable as [myself], [we] are so miserly that [we] conspire to cheat on eachother.” (Irving 1).
    “You cheated on me! Why did you do this to me?” said Tom Walker.
The greedy and selfish wife replied, “Kidd the Pirate loves me with everything. You treat me as if I were a dog.”
“Don not blame this on me,” spoke Tom Walker. “I gave everything to you, until you gave your heart to someone else. I thought you loved me the way I loved you….You have been lying to me for years, years, and years. I always knew you were hiding something from me, but I thought I was demented. I was blindsided by the thought of us in our perfect home in Boston, Massachusetts. I could never imagine you would do something like this to me…. it just is not upright”.

“I tried to tell you, but you have been so busy looking for Kidd the Pirate’s treasure,” proclaimed the possessive wife.

“I really never meant to hurt you Tom, but our love seemed to decease. You have been looking for that treasure for years, years, and years. You never came home and Kidd the Pirate was always there for me. You were too blindsided by the treasure, and did not notice how depressed I was without you. Kidd the Pirate told me he never buried any treasure”.
    Tom became furious, and could not handle himself. I never thought she would do this to me. Tom thought confoundedly, How could this happen to me? I have never done wrong, and all the years have been a lie.
    “You never seemed depressed when I got home, and you never mentioned seeing Kidd the Pirate”. Tom thought thoroughly, What is so special about him? I am a meager wise fellow. He’s only a guy who hides treasure. With that, Tom realized he’s had enough. He could not fight anymore with his wife about their marriage. “My love for you is gone and will never return” spoke Tom

Walker.
Suddenly, the wife stood in silence, as if the world had stopped. She perceived a pause in time. Everything went to black and white, and the colors were all gone. The trees started to die, and the world was an “air of starvation”. The house looked as lonely as a cloud, and stood alone in a forlorn field.
Few weeks later, Tom went downhill. Everything changed, and that change lasted forever. He absolutely could not stand her anymore. Tom’s heart was now made of “fierce of temper”. He couldn’t control himself anymore. Tom takes the longer routes on the way home to avoid seeing his wife. He still spends most of his time looking for Kidd the Pirate’s treasure for revenge on his wife.
“Where have you been”, stated the distraught wife.
“I was wondering around the interior inlet of Charles Bay. I rather be anywhere than be here with you” Tom responded carelessly.
    Tom’s wife knew that he had given up on her. I have tried, tried, and tried to get him to love me again, but it will never work. Why should I care anymore? Tom’s wife enraged in hate and started to beat her husband.
    “Stop! Get off of me you insane and demented wife”, Tom stated deliriously.
      “I do not listen to you anymore”, said the ignorant wife.
Tom could not fathom his wife’s actions, and chose to leave the house for a couple of days. When he decided to come back, he noticed things were missing. He could not find his household valuables, or shovel, what he uses to dig for treasure. Tom got worried that someone could have stolen his commodity when he left the house. Weeks later, Tom started to become frightened when his valuables still did not show up. He didn’t even realize his wife had been gone this whole time.
Tom thought dumbfounded, Where could my valuables go? I always put them away in the same spot. No one could possibly take them from me, especially my wife. Later on that evening, Tom’s wife decided to come home finally, and had his valuables in her hands.
“Why did you take my valuables!” stated Tom in a furious voice. “Whatever [you] could lay [your] hands on [you] hid away: a hen could not crackle but [you] were on the alert to secure the new-laid egg.” (Irving 1).
“You don't deserve to love anything” stated Tom’s wife.
This is the beginning of the story the Devil and Tom Walker. Originally, the story does not explain why Tom, and his wife became such a miserable couple. People wondered how they could have so much hate towards each other even when their married. Now people can have an understanding how the beginning of the “Devil and Tom Walker” really started.
