People change a lot over time. Sometimes they change in a bad way, sometimes in a good way. Tom Sawyer was a total different person at the start than he was at the end. He changed for the better too. Tom was overall more respectful at the end. He was nice to Becky and kind of “cared” for her in the cave, he is nicer to aunt Polly, and he even saved some money from the treasure. He also stopped tricking people. Instead of trying to trick people he would do things himself. BOOM! Tom is a new person now. I have changed a lot academically throughout my 7th grade year. I used to get a bunch of missing assignments. Now I haven't got one in a month or probably even more. My grades have also improved a bunch! I I used to get C’s,
At the beginning, Tom is very self-centered and preoccupied with his work. He finds what he wants to do more important than what his wife wants to do that night. Once faced with the reality of death, he realizes how important his wife is to him. This forces him to be strong and stay alive, for her sake. The only reason he made it back into his house was because of how much he cared for her. Tom then decides to go find her at the movies, which shows that he has become less self-centered and more aware of his wife’s feelings.
Tom can now start to show his maturity everywhere, including at home. In the beginning, Tom is running from Aunt Polly's punishments, hurries through chores, and plays hooky from school. When he convinces kids to do his job of whitewash the fence for him, it shows immaturity. Also when he runs away from home to the island, he doesn't leave a note.
The third and final reason Tom is unhappy and wants to leave, is due to his dreams being put on hold to support his family. Tom envisions a life of adventure, something of which he feels his life is meaningless without. After his father leaves, though not his obligation, Tom takes over the role as the man of the house. Tom feels that he is now responsible for taking care of his mother and sister. Even though Amanda and Laura need him, Tom decides anyway to leave them in search of his own adventures. Tom does not necessarily want to be unlike his father, he thinks of his wanting leave as a gene of sorts, a destiny, something he is supposed to do. When Tom’s coworker, Jim, is invited to dinner, Tom even confides in Jim that Tom is “like my [his] father” and that he is “the
Even though they might appear as mischievous, bitter, or timid people change… or do they? People change most of the time “for the better” some do not. Some change because they are forced to and some change because they want to. In the short stories, “American History,” “Charles, “and “Utterly Perfect Murder”. The main characters are examples of change throughout the story because they started off one-way and come out another. Imagine getting up every morning, going to school, and acting out and repeatedly doing that everyday. At some point it gets old. That would make someone want to make a change. In the same way holding a grudge against someone for 30 plus years would make you want to let it go. Finally being picked on and having the worst
At this point, Tom becomes a more selfish character. There is less sympathy given in his direction. In fact, this is probably where we feel a little more sorry for Amanda. Amanda has probably not done everything right for her family, but her intentions have always been good. Tom has lost patience and wants to pursue his journey away now.
In conclusion, the Tom Brown that entered the Rugby school at the beginning of the book is much different from the Tom Brown that left the rugby school. Tom becomes an honorable christian gentleman rather than a good spirited boy. Tom not only learns an education in subjects such as math and science, but Tom also learns to be a good student, a good friend, and a good Christian. Tom goes to rugby being a mischievous young boy and leaves rugby being an older Brooke. Tom became the gentleman
To start off with, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, was a great book. This story went through the adventures of a boy. How his daily life was and all the crazy plans he had in mind. For instance, to make everyone believe he was dead so he could watch his own funeral. He wasn’t alone though. He had his best friends Huckleberry Finn and Joe Harper. Throughout this story you see them grow up or mature. At first they are the same old show off, playful, and always getting into trouble. The book starts off with Tom getting in trouble by his aunt. Then towards the end you see that Tom took the blame for ripping the book when it was Becky. This shows that he has matured. Then you look at Huck. It doesn’t look like he has changed much, but you see at the
Other things in my life changed as well. I started to care about school, and developed a love for learning. My grades reflected this, and soon I began to like school again. I became cheerful and jubilant in my own ways. I was still under the clutches of my computer addiction, but things were looking up. I made some new friends in my class, and was generally a nicer person. I started listening to the same songs I always have, but at the same time branched out to different genres. I became a better person both in and out of my
In the book the Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Tom and Huck experience a lot of pressure and many personal decisions. In chapters 30 and 31 Tom and Huck get split up and they both have different situations. Tom and Becky get lost, and Huck has problems with Injun Joe and his revenge plan.
Mark Twain is one of the most famous authors around the world but his popularity increased with his book The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. His book consists of the many adventures of a child named Tom Sawyer and his friends on a small and peaceful town. His adventures includes a great amount of humor and fictional events that will entertain many readers. The book may look like a story made for children but there is a darker setting in the book. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is more gloomy than its humor because it shows how people take advantage of others for their selfish needs, the oppression of children by the adults, and it promotes animal cruelty.
Tom is more of a realist compared to Amanda’s hopeful view on life. He knows life will never measure up to his mother’s expectations. The world has changed and he feels his mother needs to wake up. His personality is a direct contrast to Amanda.
With these words the author Mark Twain brings the novel to a close, as we recognise with a hint of sadness that Tom will soon grow up, leave behind the games and naivety of childhood and become an adult. Twain conveys the important themes of growing up - moving towards maturity through making the right choices in life and learning to be a more sensitive human being through the lively character of Tom Sawyer. In the end, we leave “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” glad that Tom has made the right choices and is well on the way to adulthood.
Of the two main characters, Jim Hawkins has changed the most. Hawkins’s transformation of character started within the first couple
People dont change; we just learn more about who they want to be. I was 11; It was the ending of fall, beginning of winter. My brother was five was at the time and we lived here in small town Cresco. We lived a normal family life. My mom worked at Donaldsons at night and my dad was working at McNeilious. I took care of my brother alot, had to watch, play, and be with him alot. We grew close when we were young. My dad would get home at 5:30 every night and we would have supper. Things were good. Although at night I would hear my parents fight about money, that all my mom cared about. She didnt care for anything else. It came to November 2nd, 2011 my moms birthday. I was making pancakes for her and she was in the shower and getting ready for
Everything changes - the seasons, friends, goals, dreams, and so much more. It’s understandable to believe that not everything changes, but when you look back on your life you realize change is what got you to where you are today. It has been said, “If nothing ever changed, there would be no butterflies”.
