Hi Peeps, Today's Quote "I get the impression that God enjoys His kids the way He created us to be; honest, lovable, helpful, original, respectful, and playful." ~ Jon Barnes First First impressions are the original thoughts and actions that comes to mind as we work, play, learn, and love. They can also be wrong. Advertisement and opinions can used to change truth and the perception of reality, when we don't do our own homework, thinking, reading and praying. Quick Many of us are quick to follow fashion, fame, and fluff of the new age stuff, without considering the consequences of technology, social media, and peer pressure from access. The cost of demand is at an all time high, leaving common sense in the dust of lust. We gotta
There are many inspiring quotes in, "I Beat the Odds" by Michael Oher, but one especially stood out to me. In the beginning of the book, Michael discuss his life in Hurt Village and describes how hard his life was he says, "The odds are stacked against you, but you can't let that be an excuse, you have too much to promise to let the odds beat you. It can be done. I beat the odds"(13). This quote made it really clear to me that I shouldn't let someone break me apart or tell me what I can and cannot do because of how I might look, this quote tells me that I can do anything I set my mind into doing. I will also apply this to my life by not making excuses if I can't do something, I will use this knowledge by doing anything that is a challenge,
The social generation has taken over. If you don’t tweet on the daily, receive dozens of instagram likes, or know what the heck Tumblr is, you better get Googling because you’ve been left behind. It’s easy to get caught up in all the likes, retweets, comments, and ratings. We seem to need this sense of validation through numbers. We are never offline, we are permanently logged in. In Nicholas Carr’s The Shallows he searches for the consequences in the power of technology.
After World War II, Louie Zamperini writes a letter to Mutsuhiro Watanabe, also known as “the Bird” saying that, “The post-war nightmares caused my life to crumble, but thanks to a confrontation with God through the evangelist Billy Graham, I committed my life to Christ. Love has replaced the hate I had for you. Christ said, ‘Forgive your enemies and pray for them.”’ This is demonstrated in the novel, Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. This tells an emotional story about Louie Zamperini's experiences as an Olympic athlete, World War II veteran, and an American POW. After his Olympic dreams are crushed when he gets drafted at age 24, he experienced things most people cannot even imagine, when he returns he makes
1) One of my favorite quotes from The Help By:Kathryn Stockett Aibileen Clark states "They ain't rich folks. Rich folks don't try so hard."The reason being is when your born into a higher society than others you don’t feel need to try as hard as the people who weren't born into that kind of lifestyle.
“As I slowly lost my speech, I gained my voice. As I diminished, I grew. As I lost so much, I finally started to find myself” (Neil Sellinger). ALS changes a lot of people’s opinion on life once they fully experience that they’re unable to do the things they once used to. Their perspective changes fully. In Tuesday’s with Morrie, Morrie teaches people to live life through love, money is not needed to have a happy life, and that accepting death is okay.
Linda and Lenina are two characters from Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World that stand out and challenge the assumptions of the dystopian world in which they live. Before going any further its only right that introduce the society that is presented to us in the text. The Brave New World is a society whereby hypnopaedic education is one of the key tools that is used by the government to control its populace. Characters from this world are created in labs and through in-vitro manipulation the fetuses are uniquely well suited for the various tasks intended for them. Furthermore they are subjected to conditioning throughout their lives in order to stupefy them and keep them satisfied and happy within their specific castes ranging from an intelligent managerial class down to a group of stupid individuals who perform menial work. The individuals of this world are stripped of their emotions and encouraged to live by the quote that everyone belongs to everyone else. Basically Huxley presents us with a society in which the inhabitants’ every action has been learnt and etched into their memory. But what happens when individuals, through their actions, break away from the system that has been imposed on them? Do they perhaps qualify as misfits? Through the various ways I shall work on in my
For example, working in a surgical ward, a nurse was discussing with other colleagues about a certain patient who was in the holding bay, talking negatively about her lifestyle choices, when approaching the patient for the first time when arriving into the suite, she refused treatment from any of the nurse staff on the shift as she was upset at the things the nurse had said. First impressions influence people’s judgments of others and their willingness to engage in any further communication (Boc and Franklin, 2013).... ... middle of paper ... ...
First impressions are created by a composite of signals given off by a new experience (Flora, 2004). The judgment of these impressions depends on the observer and the person being observed (Flora, 2004). When you meet someone for the first time it takes about three seconds to be evaluated by the observer (Mind Tools, 1996-2011,). During this time the person forms an opinion about you based on your appearance, your body language, your demeanor, and how you dress (Mind Tools, 2996-2011,). Impressions are important to us because they are impossible to be reserved and the set the tone for all the relationships that follow (Mind Tools, 1996-2011).
1) “Books and loud noises, flowers and electric shocks--already in the infant mind these couples were compromisingly linked; and after two hundred repetitions of the same or a similar lesson would be wedded indissolubly.” (Huxley 22)

The concept I am going to discuss is clinging to first impressions. Clinging to first impressions means that when we originally meet someone, we decide what they are like from that one time of meeting them. A first impression is what causes someone to like or not like someone depending on the kind of person they get along with. Interplay states, “If our impressions are accurate, they can be useful ways of deciding how to respond best to people in the future (124).” Carlin Flora compares a first impression to a Polaroid picture of someone that never fades. This analogy is a metaphor to describe how a first impression sticks with someone. They never go away and stay with someone to be judged every time you see them after that. Interplay also mentions that impressions can be wrong about someone but instead of trying to fix it, we still tend to cling to it.
The reason for me choosing this specific sentence from the book is because it showed me that as life goes on, we will always need both the support and love from a person to keep us pushing through our everyday lives. This sentence means that before you can actually experience the feeling of being in love, you have to know the feeling of being loved by someone to actually get an understanding of what it means to love. It also shows that love is a key factor to the flow of life and it is well needed for people to survive.
First impressions are very important to your every day life. They are the basis of how relationships start and how you are seen by other people. People, based on first impressions, form opinions. The opinions could begin many things and lead towards success or these opinions could be ones that are misleading and have a negative impact on how people relate to you. First impression are very important on people’s social life, in your education and in employment. In your social life, first impressions come from your friends, family, and even new people who come into your life. First impressions for your education consists of your teachers or classmates when you are taking a class. First impressions on employment go from your current co-workers, boss, and former employers. The are very significant in job interviews. First impressions are important, but are not always the final word.
One of the many attributes of God is that he is a loving father. The Bible clearly shows us how our relationship should be with our children. Raising children with Godly principles not only lays a foundation for the children for the rest of their lives, it also builds a long lasting faith. “Pro 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
