The popularity of social networks is growing every day. Just five years ago, not many people knew of the existence of social networks, today they have become part of our lives and have become an essential part of it. Now it is very difficult to imagine our life without this resource. The social network is an online service or web site, intended for construction and reflection of social relationships, which are rendering social graphs. In other words, these are sites that are designed to gather people with common interests, to give them the opportunity to communicate on various topics, upload and discuss photos and videos, add each other to friends, download and listen to music, etc. According to Alina Nazarova, today in Russia in the first place by the number of active users takes network "Vkontakte" - 34.3 million people. In second place are "Odnoklassniki" with an audience of 27 million people. The world's most famous and popular social network Facebook, with over 800 million active participants in RuNet still occupy third place - 9.3 million people. Number of users of Twitter over 200 million people, while the number of Russian Internet users, according to statistics of "Yandex" is more than 1.85 million people. So, in this research paper I want to consider the positive and negative impacts of VKontakte on Russian high school students. I find it interesting, because, I also spend a lot of time in vkontakte even more than usual. Body: Students, like everyone else, used VKontakte for different purposes. First of all, it's an easy way to connect with another person. So, they share personal experiences, ideas and opinions. Furthermore, they can share information, files and documents that give teachers, and not worry about the ... ... middle of paper ... ... VKontakte more negative impact on Russian high school students. If the advantages were that vkontakte is an easy way to connect with another person, there are a large number of different groups, and that it promotes independence of students, the disadvantages are that communication vkontakte reduces and simplifies the level of literacy, students becomes dependent and it is bad affects the health of students. So, no matter how we tried to extract the precise impact of social networks all have their pluses and minuses. We need only remember that all you need to do with a sense of proportion, including using the Internet. Eventually, he becomes so dependent on it that it's just not fun to deal with such a person. Modern society mired in it! Definitely need to do something, otherwise this wave engulfs the whole society! Separate personal life and life on the Internet.
Having the right information at the right moment allows the leader to take the initiative and to make a move allowing him to gain the advantage in speed and alignment of forces. In current information age it can be quite challenging and time consuming to get accurate, relevant information, process it, interpret it and apply in the planned way. “What is of the greatest importance in war is extraordinary speed; one cannot afford to neglect opportunity.” (Chapter 1. PP. 69-70. 26.)
In the end, social networking is the act of expanding one’s social circle by connecting other individuals, specifically in relation with the use of the Internet. It is rather common to find individuals of all ages using social sites to stay in-contact with others. While many can argue that social networking is more beneficial for teens, studies prove that the use of such forms of communication can negatively affect the lives of teens anywhere through its ability to create interpersonal and intrapersonal trials.
...ile Steven Pinker believes that social networking is improving society and Sherry Turkle finds it to be harmful to individuals, the real answer lies in-between the two positions. “It is a well-known fact that the web is a valuable asset for research and learning,” stated Sue Scheff in her article “Social Networking Sites Can Limit Interpersonal Skills and Physical Activity,” “…[but] it can also be a very dangerous place” (1). While the Internet is beneficial in gaining knowledge and connecting with others, it will always come with downsides as well because it can become addictive and an easy source for predators and bullies to prey on those who are vulnerable. Ultimately, “it is in our collective interest to ensure that the Internet lives up to its potential as a revolutionary connective medium” (Pariser 11) while being aware of the risks and practicing self-control.
This research is unique because it will give light to the individuals who are against social networking that will not take to consideration that it has any positive outcomes at all and to those who believe that social networking has no downfalls and are too blinded by the social networking to even notice the affects it has on their own lives.
The web is no longer a read only product, it now has the ability to be interactive and particpatory. Users are able to interact over the internet with each other with instant messaging and emails and use social networks to share news, videos, and photos with others, bringing people with common interest, opinions, and experiences together and closer. Some of the most popular social networks include Facebook, MySpace, and LinkedIn. Currently social networks are mostly used to keep in touch with friends, colleagues, peers and family, there are far more benefits, that the social media platform can provide. This paper explores the topic of social media in modern education. There are benefits and disadvantages to social media being used in the classroom setting, and they are discussed in detail through the paper.
Social Media has become a very essential tool in the society; in addition, it has a huge impact on communication and learning process. Social media is defined as websites and applications used for social networking. “As of September 2013, seventy-one percent of online adult use Facebook, eighteen percent use Twitter and seventeen percent use Instagram, twenty-two percent use PInterest, and another twenty-two percent use LinkedIn. (PewReasearch, 2013). In addition, "Between February 2005 and August 2006, the use of social networking sites among young adult internet user ages eighteen and twenty-nine jumped from nine percent to forty-nine percent. Social media can have detrimental effects on the formation of an adolescent’s identity such as social isolation meaning that the individual will spend excessive amounts of time attached to any electronics that will provide him with social media access. Social networking has been debated to have beneficial or detrimental effects, as overuse and abuse of the Internet can be harmful to someone, such as an adolescent. According to the National Crime Prevention Council, over one million teenage girls are victimized psychologically as well as physically, through social media.
The popularity of social media is rapidly increasing in the last few decades. This may be due to the students of colleges and universities as well as youth is widely used for global access. Social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook have become a craze for everyone nowadays. In these cases, some students are more concerned about social media or social networks than on teaching by lecturers and will cause affected their academic performance.
Social networks are now widespread in our world; with existing social networks expanding, social networking sites are being created for educators, medical professionals all accessible 24 hours a day via computer, tablet, smart phone, and Internet-enabled devices. Challengers of social networking say that the sites prevent face-to-face communication, waste time on frivolous activity and spread false and potentially dangerous information. Social networks have become a substantial part of our modern civilization. It is a defining trait of how integrated our social interactions have become. Social networks have become an important source of news.
Social networking sites (SNSs) are defined as “tools young people use to get in touch with peers sharing the same interests while facilitating opinion exchange and information sharing” [1]. Attributed to the convenience these SNSs brought to us, they play significant roles in our daily lives. They become the major channels for people to have contact with each other [2]. Gone were the days when people made connections with others mostly through phone calls or letters. Generally, users communicate, organize people and spread messages in these platforms [3]. With the appearance of Myspace in 2003, SNSs are acquiring popularity having Facebook being the most common used site nowadays [4]. Noticing the growing trend of these sites, it is much debated if browsing SNSs are a waste of time. Yet, it is believed for the dominant group of SNS users – the adolescents, SNSs are beneficial since they can help to strengthen identity, increase social capital and encourage civic participation.
Our society is constantly changing. Our human nature drives us to look for changes and to develop new things. As technology advances at a fast pace, a lot of things common to society change. What we used to know as social interaction has taken a completely different meaning now. Technology is allowing us to communicate with others in a faster way, depriving us from having one to one interactions with others. This virtual world tendency taking over the interpersonal relationships is changing the way society is developing, especially the adolescents. The use of social networks has negative effects in the adolescents’ interpersonal relationships and their interaction with society.
In recent years, social networking sites have rapidly gained popularity among people at all ages. A large number of people have registered and become members of some social networking sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Wechat. Also, people spend a lot of time on these sites chatting, playing games, and making friends. Social networking sites have become a part of people’s life. However, what accounts for the popularity of these sites? As far as I’m concerned, this phenomenon, which social networking sites are very popular nowadays, is caused by three important reasons.
As said by Marshall.M, “the new electronic independence re-creates the world in the image of a global village”. He further continues that this electronic independence was internet and it illuminates the people’s life by spreading the knowledge around the world. Little by little, internet or technology has become an integral part of the way people communicate with one another and it increasingly taken place of face-to-face communication. Adolescents are more preferred to online communication rather than face-to-face communication. According to Karadkar.A, (2015) Facebook was the largest social networking in this world and it has 1.49 billion active users which the number was increasingly every
Approximately 10,000 students attended this survey. Technologies surveyed included established (email, learning management systems) and the newer Web2.0 technologies (YouTube, Facebook). Nowadays, we are living in the “ technology world”, digital’s century, science and technology are being devolopped like a rain-storm, people try their best effect to serve for human’s infiniti demand. Internet in general and social network in particular are exceedingly funtional tools. Indeed, with over 1.3 billion active users in June,2014 ( Wikipedia), there is no suprise that Facebook has been becoming a leading social network in the world, “Facebook was not originally created to be a company. It was built to accomplish a social mission - to make the world more open and connected” – CEO of Facebook: Mark Zuckerberg (google). Facebook truthly brought many useful; however, it is still “ a double-edged sword”.
