To the virgins to make much of time
GATHER ye rosebuds while ye may,
GATHER ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old time is still a-flying:
And this same flower that smiles to-day
To-morrow will be dying.
The glorious lamp of heaven, the sun,
The higher he's a-getting,
The sooner will his race be run,
And nearer he's to setting.
That age is best which is the first, when youth and blood are warmer; but being spent, the worse and worst
Times still succeed the former.
Then be not coy, but use your time, and while ye may go marry:
For having lost but once your prime you may for ever tarry.
I have chosen “To the virgins to make much of time” as my second poem because I feel it has much useful meaning to it and also because I agree with the title of the poem. I feel that people should live life to the full whilst they can. The first line, I think is the best of the whole poem: “gather ye rosebuds while ye may”. This image means that we should find a man/woman whilst you’re still young and beautiful. The poem has a very simple rhyming pattern of ABAB. This means that the poem is fluid and rhyt...

In “To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time” by Robert Herrick (391), the element of poetry that stands out most for me in the poem is personification. By endowing nonhuman things with characteristics of human’s power, thrive and aliveness, the author wants to encourage people to pursue their goals and take risks to reach what they want. For example, in line 3, by comparing a flower to a human being (flowers cannot smile), Herrick encourages people to enjoy their youth and do not just wait and watch life pass by and be wasted. In lines 3 to 5 in the second verse, the author personifies the sun by using the pronouns he and his, once again meaning that the sooner we fight for our goal, the sooner we will have our reward.
The anthology “Lines to Time” includes a wide range of poems written by a selection of poets. What makes “Line to Time” interesting and enjoyable to read is the variety of topic and treatment the poets use to make their poetry effective.
These lines demonstrate the stage of adulthood and the daily challenges that a person is faced with. The allusions in the poem enrich the meaning of the poem and force the reader to become more familiar with all of the meaning hidden behind the words. For example, she uses words such as innocence, imprisonment and captive to capture the feelings experienced in each of the stages. The form of the poem is open because there are no specific instances where the lines are similar. The words in each stanza are divided into each of the three growth stages or personal experiences.

Virginity is a social construct because it is not founded in objective reality, but rather in imagined reality or the collective imaginations of humans. Hanne Blank, author of “Virgin: An Untouched History” could not find a medical definition of virginity. Ann Knöfel Magnusson noted in Scarlteen that physically there is no difference between virgins and non-virgins. Virginity was an idea invented human imaginations, and is ultimately defined by our imaginations. The definition of virginity is far from set in stone, ultimately virginity is contextual and relative to culture, time period, and who you are asking. It's isn't a “thing” either; even how we define virginity is by the lack of other variables. According to Blank, “we define virginity by deciding what terminates it, what virginity is not.”
"The Yellow Violet" vividly expresses the nature of life in a very simple way. Bryant takes the cycle of a yellow violet and uses it to describe the humanistic world around him. It is very clever, too, that when he does this, he uses personification. A "modest flower" (2674) pops out from the dark, damp leaves below and "[makes] the woods of April bright" (2675). While the rest of the forests and fields go on with their life cycle this tiny flower does itsí best to make things pretty and happy. The persona describes this sight as an "early smile" (2675) and that is what kept a smile on his own face. Even the various blooms and colors that surface in May are not as joyful because when the violet blooms, it is the first color you see after a long winter of gray. This modesty of the meek flower is compared to that of a person. It's usually the poorer, less known people in the world that are the ones who really cheer you up. They will never let you down. As the persona in the poem points out, "So they, who climb to wealth, forget" (2675). This is the most important line of the entire poem. It is basically saying that those who are wrapped up in material things are just th...wrapped up. They are not dependable. Thus, the yellow violet is the modest person, which are far and few, who you can always count on to stand by you in the end and brighten up your day. This is the illustration of the nature of life.
The painting "The Assumption of the Virgin" has a mannerism influence. Mannerism was a XVI century art style influenced by, and at the same time a reaction to, the harmonious ideals of the Italian High Renaissance. Mannerism is notable for its artificial ( as opposed to naturalistic ) qualities which favor compositional tension and instability rather than the balance and clarity of earlier Renaissance painting.

This poem has been my favorite poem ever since I first read it. I like how when you read it aloud it has a great rhythm to it and sounds very sing-songy. I believe that this is a wonderful poem with a meaningful message and I hope that one day I can experience this type of love for someone.

... Therefore, instead of losing mental stability because of old memories, one should try to embrace sanity and perpetuate it in life. Moreover, the poem emulates society because people fantasize about looking a certain way and feeling a certain way; however, they are meddling with their natural beauty and sometimes end up looking worse than before. For instance, old men and women inject their faces to resemble those in their youth, but they worsen their mental and physical state by executing such actions. To conclude, one should embrace her appearance because aging is inevitable.
