Macbeths Downward Spiral: whose Fault is it? So whose fault is it? Is it Macbeths? Lady Macbeths? The Witches? There are a lot of opinions, and theories to this question. However, Lady Macbeth meets all the requirements and is the most responsible. She first questions Macbeth’s manhood because he doesn’t want to do the dirty work and murder people. Later in the play, Lady Macbeth starts brainwashing Macbeth and saying things like “Leave all the rest to me”. She has these evil schemes already planned, and is just waiting on Macbeth to follow through. On the other hand, many argue by saying that it is indeed Macbeths fault because he is his own person, and makes his own decisions. This is a fact because no one really has the power to completely change your morals. Macbeth could have easily stopped himself from killing, but he didn’t. Instead he said things like “It will have blood; they say, blood will have blood”. After he kills Banquo and sees his ghost, he gets terrified. Lady Macbeth tries to cover for him, but he continues to say things like “Thy bones are marrowless, thy blood is cold; thou hast no speculation in those eyes which thou dost glare with!” Alternatively, many think that it is the Witches fault because they gave Macbeth a prophecy that stated he shall be king, and his …show more content…
Many argue that it is Macbeth’s fault because he makes his own decisions and could have stopped his wife from getting to him. On the other hand, many state that the Witches were to blame because they got his hopes up and told him that he will be king. This triggered Macbeths mind and made it sort of his job to get what he wanted. Nonetheless, Lady Macbeth was the one that put the greedy and selfish thoughts into his head. She encouraged him to kill, and brainwashed him into doing these terrible actions. For these reasons, it becomes obvious that she is the one to blame and is at
...s were the ones who told him the prophecy that he would become king. If they did not give him this information, he would not have had the idea to even kill King Duncan in the first place. Lady MacBeth only continued to convince MacBeth that murdering King Duncan to gain power was the right thing to do. She is the one who filled his head with nasty thoughts, and persuaded him to kill Duncan. The amount of pressure finally got to MacBeth, and caused him to go insane. The hallucinations prove that he has gone insane, and no person that has such a condition can be blamed for any wrongdoing. If anyone should be held responsible for MacBeth’s crimes, it should be Lady MacBeth for persuading him to vicious, and the Weird Sisters for putting the idea of him becoming king in his head.
There is an ambiguity in Macbeth - do the witches represent inevitable fate, and is there in this instance the triumph of the forces of darkness, or does Macbeth have free will? If the responsibility for his actions rests with him and him alone, it may be argued that it is his weakness and his ambition that matter. His weakness lies in allowing himself to be bullied and shamed by Lady Macbeth into the murder of his king and guest.
Human beings are not perfect, and, although people often make mistakes, it is the recognition of those mistakes and the demonstration of remorse that indicates an ability to change. In Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, spurred by the predictions of the witches of her husband’s future as king, makes decisions she will later come to regret. Although she appears to be strong in planning the king’s murder, her moments of doubt throughout the play indicate a sense of weakness which ultimately lead to her mental instability and death.
In Shakespeare's final play, Macbeth the main character Macbeth is very weak, and if it was not for the other characters he would not have committed any of those heinous crimes. The play opens with Macbeth accidentally running into three witches who give him his fortune. The go on to explain that he would become the new Thane of Cawdor, and from that point he would go onto commit many murders. Macbeth also has a wife who seems to be very controlling, and is able to persuade this already weak man to actually go through with committing these murders. I believe that the Macbeth was brainwashed by the witches, and then forced by his wife Lady Macbeth to commit these murders, and he can not be held accountable for his weakness.
In the end we can’t truly blame Macbeth for his actions because he is like any one of us, a human being with wants and needs he needs to satisfy. And any person in his position if he was kind trusting, fair would end up like Macbeth. We can only hope that when a person has power, that he uses it fairly and justly. This goes to show that no one on earth whom ever they may be must rule because power leads to greed which leads to the dark side of the individual, which leads to anarchy.
Everyone is influenced by other people, including leaders or authority, to make the wrong decisions at some point in their lives. In the play Macbeth, Lady Macbeth is responsible for the evil doings of Macbeth. Lady Macbeth is responsible for this by using his love for her to persuade him into killing King Duncan. Because Macbeth loved and trusted his wife, he was vulnerable to her opinions and suggestions. We also know that she is responsible for these heartless things because she has so much guilt that she commits suicide. Macbeth would never have done any of those horrible things if it were not for the murder of King Duncan, which was forced on by Lady Macbeth.
Lady Macbeth and the three witches are responsible for Macbeth’s downfall. The three witches told Macbeth a prophecy, which led him to murder anyone in his way for more power. In page 18, When Macbeth heard that he became the new Thane of Cawdor, he thought, “If it’s my fate to be king, then fate might make me king, without me having to do anything”. This is ironic because he ended up murdering innocent people such as his best friend and Macduff’s family to stay as the King. Macbeth relied too much on the prophecies from the three witches to save him from fear. “Im determined to know the worst, by any means I can. I have to know, for my own good”(p.72). Lady Macbeth was also
Firstly, we shall consider Lady Macbeth and Macbeth as they are the two who planned and performed the murder. Although after the witches told Macbeth that he was to be king and he was burning in desire to be so he, on first instance, decided that if fate had determined that he was to be the sovereign of Scotland he shouldn’t try to be reach the throne by his own actions, that it would come eventually: “If Chance will have me king, why, Chance / may crown me, / Without my stir”. However, it was Lady Macbeth who convinced him to slay the king so that he could usurp the throne: “Hie thee hither, / That I may pour my spirits in thine ear”. So we can say that Lady Macbeth has more responsibility on Duncan’s murder than Macbeth himself as she used her position as a wife and a woman to induce his husband to the sin. She knew the “adoration” Macbeth had for her (“My dearest love” referring to Lady Macbeth) and used her status of woman to judge Macbeth a coward if he didn’t kill Duncan. Even though Macbeth holds some blame for not...
Macbeth is at fault not Lady Macbeth. Surroundings don’t influence bad decisions. It gives thought but at the end of the day, it’s up to the person to make the decision regardless of the influence. Lady Macbeth has bad points but did not physically commit any crime nor did she force her husband to do the killings, she just persuaded him well, but Macbeth has the option to refuse his wife, yet instead he killed Duncan and many more.
All things considered, Macbeth remains accountable for the events in the play rather than the minimal influence Lady Macbeth presents. Within Scotland, Macbeth plays a substantial role as his tyrannical influence drags the country into the ground. The actions of Macbeth overcome the words of Lady Macbeth. Specifically, Macbeth murders King Duncan while Lady Macbeth only subtly influences him. Afterwards, his own ambition drives him insane which then leads him to plot the murder of Banquo and Fleance. Lastly, Macbeth remains responsible for the murder of the family of Macduff as he tries to secure his power as the king. All in all, Macbeth turns to the wrong people for guidance when he needs it and his unchecked ambition leads to his collapse. People who strictly follow their ambitions wish to face a series of unfortunate events.
The witches can not be the most powerful characters in the play or the catalyst to all of Macbeth’s crimes since he has the power of his free will to decide what he does. The witches did not force him to do anything, they only influenced what he did by bringing out his “dark side” and true ambitions. “And Fortune, on his damned quarrel smiling, show’d like a rebel’s whore: But all’s too weak: for brave Macbeth—well he deserves that name—disdaining Fortune, with his brandish’d steel, which smoked with bloody execution,” (Act 1 Scene 2 Lines 16-20) The Captain says that Macbeth should have been killed in battle but he was stronger than his fate is. This means that Macbeth has no one to blame but himself for his own death, actions and crimes.
I think that Macbeth is mainly to blame for the murder as he was the
In the play there are many evil deeds that Macbeth committed. These include the murders of Duncan and Banquo, Lady Macduff and her son. Macbeth is also responsible for Scotland's disorder. Macbeth plays the main role in each incident, with the other characters being only minor and undeveloped; acting as vehicles for Macbeth's actions. It is possible that it is not entirely Macbeth's fault for the evil deeds in the play.

There were many wrongs committed in "MacBeth." But who should bear the major responsibility for these actions? The witches' prophesising? Lady MacBeth's scheming and persuasion? Or should MacBeth himself be held responsible? No doubt the witches and lady MacBeth influenced MacBeth in the course of action he took in his rise to power, but ultimately he must bear the major responsibility for his fate.
