In the early 21st century, in a small town of Mequon, Wisconsin; a great injustice was being imposed upon the nobel students & staff of Homestead High School. The formerly great school was in a state of disrepair, textbooks were old and reeked of goat milk, the ceilings were filthy and foul, and even the heating and air conditioning systems were decayed and inoperable relics of a better time. Then, during an otherwise average and dreary day the whole student body was taken by surprise as the loathsome and terrible consortium, known as the school board had announced via loudspeaker, yet another set of horrid budget cuts. Adolescents and adults alike were powerless to stop the sacking of the sacred texts, literary masterpieces such as “Ethan Frome”, “Huckleberry Finn”, and “To Kill A Mockingbird” were all gathered up and thrown into trucks and taken away for sale. The majority of books were pulled from Mr.Gaebel’s room which was under the care of a substitute while he was recovering from a recent hockey tournament which had left him in a coma of sorts, “ If only Gaebel were here, this never would've happened” a scrawny sophomore proclaimed at the lunch table. “Where even is that guy?” the girl next to him inquired “He's still at the hospital last i heard” Davio Gancitano, the dashingly handsome junior, informed her “ Infact we should see if he's awake yet, i bet he’d know what to do!” and at with they set out. When they arrived at the hospital, Mr Gaebel appeared to be in a deep coma, hockey stick still clutched in his hands. Davio dramatically screamed in Mr.Gaebel’s ear “THOSE DESPICABLE SOULLESS FRIENDS TOOK ETHAN FROME!” Gaebel’s eyes fluttered and then snapped open, he slowly turned and proclaimed “Well then, I guess these bombastic book burglars will just have to taste the fiery slapshot of expository justice!”. And with that the young sage threw his hockey stick through the window and jumped through the window, falling at least 15 stories before combat rolling and taking off in a flat sprint towards his home from the hospital parking lot. When he arrived he was greeted with revel and fanfare by his pack of vicious wolves, as he walked inside he found his entire 3rd hr class inside. “What’re you lowly peasants doing in my abode?” he inquired. They proceeded to explain the situation and desperately awaited Gaebel’s response. After a moment he spoke up “That collective of dastardly villains shall not have my students reading dictionaries any longer!” -he turned towards the students- “fear not for before you stands the legendary Gaebel sensei, i shall vanquish them just as i have countless ninja, ghosts, zombies, gremlins, hobgoblins, and costco employees before them!” -he spun on his heels- “Yes i say, fear not! for it was i who saved the us olympic hockey team from bioengineered death penguins, and vanquished the entire arrowhead english department with a single semantic map!”. The students, roused and rallied by his heroic boasting, gathered around him and threw off their shoes as a sign of respect. “I see i have your support.” he proclaimed with jedi like composure “We march at dawn!”. What that protector of the realms of men had not realized was that the creature Daigle had been hiding beneath the floorboards the whole time. As soon as the last of Gaebel’s companions were asleep, the vile agent of evil clawed through the floor quiet as a gelfling and crept through the hero’s hall. The rotten creature prepared to devour the sleeping children, but just as he went to tear an unsuspecting freshman from his sleep and into the darkness of an early demise a resounding smack sounded through the room as Gabel headshotted the fiend with a hockey puck. “Perfect slap shot!” he roared, Daigle shook off his daze, and with the puck still embedded in his forehead, he charged at Gaebel! But unbeknownst to Daigle, the master of grammar was also a master of kendo, and with one graceful slash of his mighty hockey stick, he decapitated and slew the beast. At sunrise, atop his mighty war wolf, pack and class close behind, Gaebel set out on his final crusade. When they arrived at the dreaded highlander walkway they were met by the catalyst of evil itself, the entire school board was assembled in the courtyard, Gaebel and the dark lord of the budget locked eyes, and they knew what came next.Gaebel drew his hockey stick and sent in the wolves, but Darth Bauer quickly slew all of the beasts, losing only accountants.
Gaebel charged the main group and hacked and slashed through nearly all of the board members, while Bauer tried to catch up and deal a blow. Gaebel had inflicted broken jaws, impacted skulls, and shattered knee caps, but just as he was finishing off the last foe, Bauer landed a deathly blow. Gaebel was unable to stand, his wound wept crimson blood as he fell to his knees. Bauer prepared to finish off that knight of knowledge, he raised his blade preparing to strike, Gaebel could not defend himself. Suddenly a familiar voice is heard as a hockey puck shoots straight through the chest of his enemy, Bauer dropped his sword and fell, defeated at last. Gaebel’s would be savior was his closest friend and companion Davio Gancitano who’s slapshot was second only to his own. The entire class rushed to his aid but it was already too late, he had died a hero’s death. They picked him up and mournfully headed back towards his home, when the arrived they took him deep into the forest and laid him to rest alongside his pack. Some say that in those woods, in the wee hours of the morning you can spot a stately blonde
wolf, wearing sandals.
Joes High School’s total enrollment consisted of sixteen girls, and twenty boys. Ten of the boys that had enrolled there played basketball. All of the boys were over six feet tall. Lane Sullivan, the new coach of the basketball team, had never even touched a basketball before he started coaching. Sullivan had never coached anything at all before he started coaching the Joes basketball team. In order to gain knowledge about the sport, he got a book about it. He started coaching in 1927, but before the 1928 basketball season, Joes High School didn’t even have a gym. Instead, they’d practice outside on a dirt court, and two times a week they’d take a bus to the nearest gym, which was ten miles away. In order to play home games, the boys had to play in the local dance hall. The “court” was nowhere near regulation size, and the ceiling was so short that the boys couldn’t shoot an arched shot. The people who attended these basketball games had no place to sit and watch the game, the all stood around the edges of the court and on the small stage. Joes High School finally got their own gym around Christmas time because the people of Joes donated their time and material in order to make it happen.
In the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee, the author, wrote about the journey of a little girl, named Scout, as she grows up. Scout’s father Atticus serves as a grand part of her aging because he teaches her many life lessons. The most significant of all the lessons and a pivotal moment in the novel occurs when Atticus tells Scout that “you never really a man until you stand in his shoes and walk around in them,”, which contributes to one of Scout’s intellectual changes and the theme, understanding requires time (Lee 372).

It is no secret that college has absurd tuition prices. If colleges were to lower the prices of tuition, everyone would be universally happier. For this assignment, I decided to do my film review on To Kill a Mockingbird (Mulligan, R., & Pakula, A. (Directors). (1962). To Kill a Mockingbird[Motion picture on VHS]. United States of America.) I have a personal connection to this film because it is one of my most beloved novels by Harper Lee. I have never watched the film so it was a nice experience to see the characters I have loved for years come to life just before my eyes. The film particularly focuses on a white family living in the South of the United States in the 1930s. The two siblings, Jem and Scout Finch, undergo major changes while experiencing evil and injustice in their small town of Maycomb. Jem and Scout’s father is named Atticus and he is a well-respected man in the town as well as being a lawyer.
Intriguing. That is the word that comes to mind when reading Harper Lee's novel “To kill a Mockingbird”. The novel is filled with so many different view points, attitudes, feelings, etc. all in which, bring to mind a wide range of feelings. In particular, in reading chapters 8-14 of this novel, you really get an extra bit of insight into the “intriguing” sense of the characters. To be specific, in the following chapters, we get to know more about each character a little more. One person, in particular, who these chapters are seem to focus on, is Atticus Finch. Atticus is one of the main characters, father of Jem and Scout Finch, and is the main inspiration to my idea of being intriguing. In chapters 8-14 of this book, there are so many interesting and mind-boggling passages that it is hard to decide which ones really get your hair standing up most. For example, A passage that was pretty interesting was “...nigger-lover is just one of those terms that don't mean anything—like snot-nose. It's hard to explain—ignorant, trashy people use it when they think somebodys favoring negroes over and above themselves” (Lee 68). It has
Scout Finch, the youngest child of Atticus Finch, narrates the story. It is summer and her cousin Dill and brother Jem are her companions and playmates. They play all summer long until Dill has to go back home to Maridian and Scout and her brother start school. The Atticus’ maid, a black woman by the name of Calpurnia, is like a mother to the children. While playing, Scout and Jem discover small trinkets in a knothole in an old oak tree on the Radley property. Summer rolls around again and Dill comes back to visit. A sence of discrimination develops towards the Radley’s because of their race. Scout forms a friendship with her neighbor Miss Maudie, whose house is later burnt down. She tells Scout to respect Boo Radley and treat him like a person. Treasures keep appearing in the knothole until it is filled with cement to prevent decay. As winter comes it snows for the first time in a century. Boo gives scout a blanket and she finally understands her father’s and Miss Maudie’s point of view and treats him respectfully. Scout and Jem receive air guns for Christmas, and promise Atticus never to shoot a mockingbird, for they are peaceful and don’t deserve to die in that manner. Atticus then takes a case defending a black man accused of rape. He knows that such a case will bring trouble for his family but he takes it anyways. This is the sense of courage he tries to instill in his son Jem.
Racism in my eyes is defined by prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior. Racism is portrayed very much similar in to Kill a mocking bird and A time to kill.
At the beginning of freshman year, the school system sent out surveys asking the parents what they thought of fixing up the school. Everyone in my town knew that something needed to be done years ago. I was surprised the building hadn’t collapsed already. You sat in class and looked outside through the cracks in the walls. Most of the town wanted to build a new school at a new site. It would help ease the overcrowding and parking conditions. They could build on at another location with no problem, as it became needed. That dream was shot down when the announcement came that the school would remain where it is. What happened? The two men that would pour money into the new school got to decide where the school went. (the men are not being named so no one is offended that may know them) They were afraid if the school moved from its existing site, the downtown area would lose money. These two men got to decide everything without considering the repercussions. So with this decision, my high school years were forever changed.
