Morality In To Kill A MockingBird Morality is knowing the difference between right and wrong. The mind chooses what makes sense and what does not, not right and wrong. In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird, uses the setting to show how the characters behave and interact with each other. The setting in the story affects the characters she does this so she can show how people behaved in that period of time. She also shows multiple conflicts on top of each other but connects in the end. In the novel Harper Lee shows how characters are in that period of time. Ms.Dubose and her addiction to morphine and how she chooses to fight it and die clean . Ms.Dubose is fighting her addiction in which is the moral thing to do. moral way to go, so she decides to rid herself from this addiction and choose the more moral way to die. In the novel Harper Lee also manipulates the setting to show how people behaved at that certain time period.
In this case the setting of the novel is in Alabama during the 1960’s, where segregation and racism was a real deal in the deep south such as Alabama. In this quote it shows that, most white people are racist towards the African American community and a some are not. In To Kill A Mockingbird Atticus was moral to take the case of Tom Robinson even though he was black and the white community would look at him as a black lover. During the case he says to the jury, “do what's right not because of the skin color but what god knows it's right” Atticus did not care about the opinions of white people, the skin of color but of what was the moral thing to do. To conclude, People will choose what its obvious and trying not to do the opposite from what is right from wrong. In the novel Atticus Finch chooses what made sense especially in the court scene where he pieces together what actually happens. The Jury was not moral and being all white the jury found Tom Robinson guilty, in which for them it makes sense that a White man’s word is worth more than a black man’s word. Harper Lee setting shows how the characters behave, so the reader can infer that the south was not a nice place for the black community Harper Lee shows mutiple conflicts in the novel while being able to maintain the main conflict. In life it takes alot of courage from the heart to be moral. We learn that the moral
thing to do is the right thing but some people's definition of moral can differ, depending how they are and the time.

The book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is about a black man named Tom Robinson who is being charged with the rape of a white girl named Mayella Ewell. While the lawyers are giving their closing statements, Atticus Finch, the lawyer for Tom Robinson, makes his closing statement using ethos and logos persuasive methods to show that Bob Ewell and Mayella Ewell were lying. The logo is the principle of reason and judgment. Ethos is appealing to somebody's emotions. These persuasion methods were effective because Atticus uses this technique a lot one example of this is when he uses logos and asks Bob Ewell to put his signature on a piece so that he could see what Bob Ewell's dominant hand was because according to heck Tate her right side
Some people do not know right from wrong, in, To Kill a Mockingbird we know that there was a black man accused of rape, given it is the 1930s in the South U.S, nobody will support this man, except Atticus Finch, a man that stands up for what is right. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee uses the character Atticus Finch to show that it is important for people to stand up for what is right because otherwise justice will never have a chance to prevail. Atticus shows this when he defends Tom, teaches Jem after the trial, and Atticus teaches Scout about the way she acts towards others.
Atticus shows great compassion and tolerance when he stands up for the Negroes. He stands up and represents Tom Robinson because he believes that everyone should be treated equally in the court of law. He knows that because Tom was a Negro there would be a slim chance of winning. That fact never discouraged him though because he says that the main reason he is representing Tom is because, ' if I didn't I couldn't hold up my head in town, I couldn't represent this county in the legislature'; (75). He recited a speech, which clearly states that Tom Robinson is not guilty. In that speech he says, 'our courts have their faults, as does any human institution, but in this courts are the great levelers, and in our courts all men are created equal'; (205). He believed that prejudice and stereotyping is wrong and he tries to teach these morals to Scout and Jem.
Towards the end of To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus decides to represent a colored man by the man of Tom Robinson, who is being accused of raping Mayella Ewell, Bob Ewell’s daughter. Atticus believes that Tom is innocent, but he does not think that Tom will be found not guilty because of they way the townsfolk treat colored people. They treat them like dirt; like they are worth nothing. Atticus went ahead and represented Tom despite the fact that he knew the townsfolk would call himself and his children names and treat them disrespectfully. Even Scout’s relative Francis said rude things about them. “‘I guess it ain't your fault if Uncle Atticus is a nigger-lover besides, but I'm here to tell you it certainly does mortify the rest of the family-...’ ‘Just what I said. Grandma says it's bad enough he lets you all run wild, but now he's turned out a nigger-lover we'll never be able to walk the streets of Maycomb agin. He's ruinin' the family, that's what he's doin'.’” Atticus set a good example for Scout and Jem. He had a difficult decision to make, but he chose what he thought was
When most people were against him and are trying to convince him not to, Atticus was determined to continue defending Tom Robinson (an African American who was accused of raping a white lady name Mayella Ewell - Mr. Ewell's daughter). (Make it active voice ?) Due to his good morals, Atticus felt like he needs to help Tom Robinson “This case, Tom Robinson’s case, is something that goes to the essence of a man’s conscience --- Scout, I couldn’t go to church and worship God if I didn’t try to help that man” (108). As addressed in To Kill a Mockingbird, Jim Crow laws manipulated individuals ethics to think that blaming African Americans is fine since all they do is not good (change the wordings). This type of discrimination made African American victims of jails and crimes that they did not even consider doing but were thought of doing because of racial segregation enforcement (popularity?) within the Southern society of the US. However, Atticus was different and believed that Tom robinson is innocent since he understood (understands?) how people discriminate others and was aware (is aware) of different types of prejudice (in that time period). So, due to Atticus’ good morals and values, he was willing to try his best to support the truth (who was right or something) and help Tom Robinson which makes him a great parent because (he is a person of morals?) of his good morals and values (delete morals and values?). Atticus (atticus’s ?) belief (of noting using one’s power to hurt each other … ?) that people should not harm each other should be admired. For instance, Miss Maudie (Atticus neighbour) was confirming to Scout that what Atticus said about Mockingbirds is right “Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They

Harper Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird” takes place during the 1930’s in the fictional and quiet town of Maycomb, located in Maycomb County, Alabama. Being in set in the South during the 1930’s the story does tackle racism and inequality for African Americans as racism was becoming more and more prominent in the 1930’s. When people think of the southern states of America, the first things to come to mind are often rolling corn farms, blistering heat, thick accents, and racism. Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird recounts her time as a child growing up in a sleepy Alabama town, where racism runs rampant and everyone is blind to their own hypocrisy. These attitudes can be found in many characters, including the farmer Mr Cunningham, classroom teacher Miss Gates, and churchgoer Mrs Merriweather.
"There's something in our world that makes men lose their heads—they couldn't be fair if they tried. In our courts, when it's a white man's word against a black man's, the white man always wins. They're ugly, but those are the facts of life” (Lee ,223). Atticus told the jury thus quote. In tough situations Atticus always has great judgement. No matter the color, Harper Lee shows Atticus's character to be the most responsible out of most, he's also one of the most important characters in the book and is greatly talked about throughout the
Finch, his actions spoke just as loud as his words and he show that even his intentions were moral. “‘Atticus, are we going to win it?’ ‘No, honey.’ ‘Then why-’ ‘Simply because we were licked a hundred years before we started is no reason for us not to try to win,’...” Although he knew that with the circumstance there was no way he was going to win the case he knew he had to at least try. He knew it was wrong that because of racial issues Tom would be convicted. The simplified version of morality is when you know what is right you do what ever you can to do it, no matter what others think. one will always try to protect those who cannot protect themselves. Tom could not defend himself and Atticus knew no one else would do him
