In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, it is said that a mockingbird is someone who is innocent and does good for others, and I believe that Jem possess these qualities. Firstly, I think Jem could be considered a mockingbird because when Scout and Jem were in danger when Mr. Ewell attacked them as they were coming home from the high school, Jem pushed Scout forward so she could get away and shouted "'Run, Scout! Run! Run!'" (Lee 351). Putting his sister's life before his own was very selfless of him, as Jem is faster than Scout and would've been able to outrun her if he had tried.
