Chapter 1- The chapter starts out with a flash-forward to an event in which, the main character’s brother, Jem, has broken his arm, as well as, talk about the family past, starting with Simon Finch, who came to America after persecution based on religion, then going and talking about her father’s law practice, then to the town that she (the main character) lives in. The town is called Maycomb, and is a small Southern town that wasn't very eventful. The main character then goes on to talk about her family and living situation with her brother, Jem, her father, Atticus, and the cook, Calpurnia. She, then starts to talk about her deceased mother, but proceeds to Dill, who is a kid who doesn't live in Maycomb, but spends the summer in Maycomb. He becomes friends with Jem and Scout (the main character), who then start to reenact plays, and create them as well. Then the Radley Place comes in. The Radley Place is a place in which the family who lives there, didn’t partake in the usual activities of Maycomb, but one of their sons, Boo became friends with the wrong crowd and got arrested and was sent back home with the compromise of that no more trouble would come from him. Walter accepts and comes over. Scout comments on Walter’s use of the syrup and Calpurnia gets mad and scolds her. Scout goes back to school and is greeted with the sight of Miss Caroline scared of a mouse. It's removed and and “cooties” (lice) are spread. Burris is a student and is sent home to clean himself, he gets into a rude exchange with Miss Caroline and promptly leaves. Scout goes home and talks to Atticus about him teaching her at home, but Atticus says no because of his job. The owner, Nathan Radley (referred to as Boo), has lived there for years without ever venturing outside its walls. The children laugh and imagine the reclusive life of Boo Radley, yet their father quickly puts a halt to their shenanigans, as they should not judge the man before they truly know him. Atticus unforgettably tells the children, “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view…until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.”
The theme of these two chapters is that Dill, and Jem wanted to go to the Radely house to get a peep at Boo Radely through the blinds. Scout feels uneasy about it but despite Jem’s wishes refuses to go home. He gets shot at with a gun while trying to escape. He lost his pants while escaping and when he went back to get them they where laid out on the fence like they where expecting Jem to come back. The next day every body was talking about it, they all thought Mr. Radely shot at a black man but missed. It seemed like Mr. Radely knew it was Jem though. Jem and Nathan Radley each said hi and Mr. Radely was talking about filling his tree with cement even though it was perfectly healthy. Jem found this strange.
The main characters of this book are Scout which is the narrator, her father (Atticus), her brother (Jem), her friend Dill. A few other characters are Tom Robinson, Boo Radley, and Bob Ewell. Scout is the narrator of the story and she is telling the story from the past point of view. She started talking about the summer when she first met Dill and they went on adventures with her older brother Jem. Scout is only eight years old at the time, and she is an innocent who has never been exposed to evil and hatred. She learns different morals from Atticus. Scout and Jem never found any form evil in anyone because they were taught by their father that there was good in everyone. Scout is a tomboy and she is not like the average little girl in Maycomb County. Being a tomboy makes her different, and she does not care what anyone thinks. She has no fear of fighting the boys and she has social problems at some points in the story. She does not know when to keep her mouth shut and when to stop asking questions, but that makes her character significant. She is also very smart for her age. She learned to read before she started school, and when her teacher found out she told her to forget everything she learned.

Once you pick up this book, you will need the key of being able to dissect the book in order to unlock its full potential. Through the three-and-a-half year-long journey that is To Kill a Mockingbird Harper Lee takes Jeremy Atticus Finch and Jean Louise Finch through a never-ending pile of events. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is about Jem and Scout Finch and their childhood in Maycomb, Alabama. Their lives consist of a never-ending-chain-of-events, many interesting and unique people, and life’s lessons that give Jem, Scout, and Atticus a fresh view of the world. Not many people have actually seen and experienced Tom Robinson and Arthur “Boo” Radley, and this leads to incorrect thoughts about each character. Tom and Boo have a lot of good in them. They are both like Mockingbirds because they are both innocent humans harmed by the evil of mankind. In Harper Lee’s novel, both Boo Radley and Tom Robinson are innocent characters, but Boo’s kindness is hidden by rumors and Tom’s generosity is hidden by stereotypes.
I have two questions about chapter fifteen. First of all, why did the mob leave? One answer that has come to mind is the fact that Scout talks to Mr. Cunningham. Scout notices Mr. Cunningham next to herself and she starts talking. Scout mentions stuff about how Scout knows his son and that she beat him up once, but he was cool about it. Mr Cunningham seems as if he is not even hearing one word Scout is saying. Even though Mr. Cunningham is not paying wonderful attention, Scout continues to talk to Mr. Cunningham. It is like for example, when a parent is talking to another parent and one of the parents children keeps whining for something. The adult continues to talk to the other parent, and just acts like they are hearing what the child is
To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee is a novel about the act of growing up. The main character is a girl named Scout Finch who is the narrator as well as the protagonist of the story. She is a very curious person for someone of her age. The book discusses what she learns about people and about life. In the primitive stages of the novel Scout’s narrating is very childish, humorous, and innocent, although as the novel progresses it becomes increasingly dark. It takes place between 1933 and 1935 in a small quiet town called Maycomb located in southern Alabama. Scout’s father, Atticus, is a lawyer. Their family struggle’s with money because his clients are poor. Scout lives with her father, her brother Jem, and their cook Calpurnia. Her mother passed when her and Jem were young, for they continuously morn in her absence. However, they look forward to the summers due to the fact that their friend Dill comes and stays next door. They go on many adventures together.
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is an emblem of racial jurisdiction. All throughout the book it shows how the law applies to blacks as opposed to whites. Lee shows how unjust the treatment of blacks is and the disregard for their human rights. Though through the actions of the characters in the book; it can be said that their actions show a glimmer of hope for this very prejudiced society.
The entire first part of the book is all about the kids trying to find out all about the Radley's. The second part of the book is about Atticus (Scout and Jem's father) defending a black man named Tom Robinson in court. Tom was accused of beating and raping a nineteen year old girl named Mayella. This is the section of the book with the most examples of American history.
Scout Finch, the youngest child of Atticus Finch, narrates the story. It is summer and her cousin Dill and brother Jem are her companions and playmates. They play all summer long until Dill has to go back home to Maridian and Scout and her brother start school. The Atticus’ maid, a black woman by the name of Calpurnia, is like a mother to the children. While playing, Scout and Jem discover small trinkets in a knothole in an old oak tree on the Radley property. Summer rolls around again and Dill comes back to visit. A sence of discrimination develops towards the Radley’s because of their race. Scout forms a friendship with her neighbor Miss Maudie, whose house is later burnt down. She tells Scout to respect Boo Radley and treat him like a person. Treasures keep appearing in the knothole until it is filled with cement to prevent decay. As winter comes it snows for the first time in a century. Boo gives scout a blanket and she finally understands her father’s and Miss Maudie’s point of view and treats him respectfully. Scout and Jem receive air guns for Christmas, and promise Atticus never to shoot a mockingbird, for they are peaceful and don’t deserve to die in that manner. Atticus then takes a case defending a black man accused of rape. He knows that such a case will bring trouble for his family but he takes it anyways. This is the sense of courage he tries to instill in his son Jem.
4) Jem is more reserved than Scout as he sees her as the aggravating sister so he doesn’t want to see her at school because he thinks that he will be embarrassed because the way she reacts to people. Each summertime in Maycomb County the kids have their best friend Dill drop in to hang out all summer. All they do is play fun games but one summer they played a game called Boo Radley where they play as the Radley’s. Atticus found out about the game and told the kids not to play it again but Jem and Dill had a master plan to just rename the characters.
