Atticus is an incredible character in the book To Kill A Mockingbird. He displays three qualities that make him an incredible character. Atticus is determined. This is evident in the trial when he tries very hard to win for Tom Robinson and when he wants to take the case for an appeal. Atticus is also kind. We witness Atticus’ kindness in the way he acts and treats everyone in Maycomb. Atticus treats everyone with respect even if they don’t deserve it. Lastly, Atticus is patient. The author shows this through the way he treats Jem and Scout and everyone else in Maycomb. This essay will show that Atticus possesses the three qualities just mentioned. This essay will also show how the events and examples just mentioned show unique qualities. Atticus possesses the quality of determination. In To Kill A Mockingbird we see Atticus’ determination in Tom Robinson's case. Atticus is determined in everything he does, not just the case. Atticus’ behavior and speech shows his determination. He believes certain things and he holds himself accountable to do the right thing in any situation. In To Kill A Mockingbird we witness Atticus’ patience and tolerance level on many occasions. The biggest moment where we see Atticus’ patience is when Bob Ewell spits on Atticus out of anger and Atticus calmly wipes the spit off and walks away. We also see Atticus’ patience when Mr. Ewell talks negatively to Atticus about the case and Atticus simply takes all of Mr. Ewell’s comments and goes on with his day without engaging in anything more. Patience in Atticus is also very recognizable with Jem and Scout when they act up or do something wrong.
