There are a huge variety of leaders, but what makes you a good one and segregates you from the common leaders? Leadership is a role in which you are given the responsibility to lead or guide a group of people. Many leaders also have timeless skills which often define them as good ones. Timeless means that something doesn’t change even though time passes by. This means that leaders from the present have the same skills as leaders from thousands of years ago. A successful and great leader has the timeless traits of being commanding, charismatic, and confident. Being commanding is one of the three timeless traits that a great leader should have. To be commanding means to indicate or express authority. A great leader needs to be commanding because, …show more content…
To be confident is to feel or show certainty about something. As a leader, you need to be confident because you need to be able to take risks and opportunities. There is a quote that says “Confidence comes not from always being right, but from not fearing to be wrong”. If you don’t take risks, then you might miss a great opportunity. Many great leaders have exemplified confidence from thousands of years ago and also today. One great pharaoh from the past that exemplified this trait was Akhenaten. Akhenaten was a pharaoh in Egypt who reigned during the time period of 1353–1336 BC. He was a very famous pharaoh for many of his great accomplishments. Some of them were creating a whole new capital from scratch, greatly developing art and architecture, and starting monotheism in Egypt. The first reason why Akhenaten was confident is because he started monotheism. No pharaoh has ever believed in monotheism and instead they believed in several different gods, although Akhenaten was one of the first pharaohs to try and start monotheism. To Akhenaten it was a huge risk for him; everyone has always believed in different gods so if Akhenaten decided to suddenly change the religion to monotheism, then there could be protests and riots against him. Akhenaten faced many challenges but decided to give it a try. Monotheism was a success for Akhenaten but only when he was alive. As soon as Akhenaten died, his name was removed from …show more content…

Pharaohs were governors of the Ancient Egyptian realm who broadcasted themselves as sons of gods who upheld Ma’at – the Egyptian order of life. Most pharaohs ruled in a typical and expected way carrying the beliefs of their ancestors- though not all ruled this way. Akhenaten of the 18th Dynasty New Kingdom was not an “archetypal” pharaoh as seen through his goal to change Egyptian religion from polytheism to monotheism and through his building project in Amarna. Though he used traditional means to incorporate his changes he did so in an atypical way. After all his attempts at reform all was forgotten when he died and Egypt returned to the religious beliefs it had beforehand. This essay will analyse historical evidence that demonstrates his religious changes, the significance of his building project in Amarna and the aftermath of his death.
Cleopatra, born in 69 B.C., was an Egyptian Queen and the last pharaoh of Ancient Egypt. She was from Greek descent and a member of the Ptolemies, who ruled Egypt for nearly 300 years. In just her early twenties, Cleopatra became Queen of Egypt following the death of her father and the defeat of her siblings. Popularly, she is remembered because of her physical beauty, love affairs, and the tragedy of her life. But more importantly she should be celebrated as a commanding female leader who used her intellect to exercise considerable power and influence in a male-dominated world.

Born around 69 BC Cleopatra VII, the last reigning queen of the Ptolemaic dynasty in Egypt had a significant impact and influence on her time. Her success as a ruler is evident within her social, religious and economic management of Egypt. However, her rising ambition and strong-willed personality may have brought her failure with her military career and political expansion as she ultimately lost Egypt’s sovereignty to Rome. The film “1963 Cleopatra” by the director Joseph Mankiewicz and ancient historians gives us an insight into the significant impacts and influence Cleopatra had on her time. In my idea, leaders without self-confidence are not actually leaders. According to David Barrett (2010), “self-confidence is the fundamental basis from which leadership grows”. I am wondering without that conception, how leaders can influence and judge others. I want to believe in myself although I am not perfect but I would like to be confident in my leadership skills and every action I take for achieving common
Many Scholars characterize the core qualities and skills necessary for an effective leader. Useem defines leadership as “Creating a vision and translating that vision into actions”. Historically, an effective leader was assumed to be exceptionally knowledgeable, authoritative, and dominate. Those leaders applied the command and control method to lead an organization. With the passage of time, this definition has been changed. The modern definition of an effective leader is honest, courageous, trustworthy, inspirational, and result-oriented. Today’s leaders create shared values and vision, and empower others to achieve their targets.
As a growing debate, the question at hand is whether great leaders are born with specific leadership traits, or if one can be taught certain traits over time. According to (Wikipedia.com) the approach of listing leadership qualities, often termed "trait theory of leadership", assumes certain traits or characteristics will tend to lead to effective leadership. I believe that leadership traits such as honest, competent, initiative, inspiring, hardworking, intelligent, and the ability to lead the masses, are some of the leadership traits one should possess. Within this paper, I will examine the overall concept of leadership traits, while observing the traits that were, or can be associated with successful leaders.
When faced with roadblocks or difficult decisions as a leader, I know that I must remain confident and retain all the qualities outlined earlier as well as countless others. Only then will I be able to effectively take action and make change in my leadership role.
Self-confidence is one of the most important qualities that determine a good leader. Self-confidence is the belief in oneself and of one’s powers and abilities. It is the attitude that people possess that allows them to have positive views and to trust their own abilities. Self-confidence is an extremely important attribute to have. Leadership is all about having the confidence to make decisions. If they are afraid to make and commit to their decisions, all of the communication and authority they have will make no difference. They need to guts to motivate others, and if they waver even slightly, their followers will start to doubt them. An example of leaders having self-confidence is the students at school who organized their own clubs. They have the courage to pitch new ideas, and are not afraid to talk to other students about it. Teachers are natural born leaders. Everyday, they have to face hundreds of students to lead them onto the correct path through learning. Without self-confidence, they will not be able to do their job.
Throughout my life I have encountered the chance to experience position of being a leader. Being part of groups in university for class presentations, being the organizing secretary of my campus fellowship, being a youth leader in my church and the church admin, also being part of a family. Leaders are charismatic, inspirational and trust worthy. I have gained some important qualities of being a good leader through these experiences. Most of the valuable leadership’s characteristics that I obtained and strengthened are: learn to become a better leader every day, how to be a team player, to be a better listener, to be an effective communicator, to have more patience, not afraid of constructive criticism, to be outspoken, and to be a problem solver. Even though I have gained a lot, I still have more things to learn to become a better leader such as being more assertive, being more disciplined, becoming a better public speaker, and learn how to be realistic and not too optimistic. You are a leader if someone else choses to follow you.
