The act of time travel assumes that we can travel time at a rate different when compared to the normal world. There are several theories on how one could travel through time physically even if the methods wouldn’t make a lot of sense logically. These methods range from altered movement in regular space to the abuse of certain cosmic phenomena which may or may not exist. In this paper I will argue that the physical possibility of time travel is sound and therefore possible even if only theoretically. To begin with this paper, I want to first define time travel, and this will be done using a modification of David Lewis’ definition. In his definition Lewis defines time travel as a discrepancy between the time traveler’s personal time compared …show more content…
The first way is that you accelerate away from a location that we will refer to as “at rest”, by accelerating back towards them you have effectively “skipped” a portion of time. This is due to spacetime being in balance so having such a large displacement of space means that time must move slower to balance that. Since the amount of time that has passed for you is less than the amount that passed for the location “at rest”. That now matches our definition for time travel and as such you have now traveled to the future. The second way that time dilation can occur is through being inside a strong gravitational, it has been observed that the passage of time in a strong field when observed by someone in a weaker field would be slower relative to the observer in the weak gravity field. This, by our definition of time travel, is an example of peering into the past or by entering that field entering the relative past.
Now that I have explained why the physics of time travel is sound we can move on to how to simulate those phenomena purposely to take advantage of time dilation as a means of time travel. In the case of time dilation due to differing velocity the most basic way to simulate this is to travel at very high speeds, for the sake of our discussion we will assume we have a spacecraft that can move at speeds akin to lightspeed or close to it. By accelerating at that speed then returning to the location “at rest” we have achieved time travel to the future. Alternatively, we can use the phenomenon known as
If you have ever read Einstein's Dreams, you can appreciate my dilemma. If you have not yet had the opportunity to experience this wonderful novel by Alan Lightman, I guarantee that after you read it you will expand your perception of the nature of time and of human activity. The novel is enchanting. It is a fictional account of what one of the greatest scientific minds dreams as he begins to uncover his theory of relativity.
Do you believe in time travel? Because yes it exists. I mean, just think about it, you go back and think about memories, and you plan your future, don’t you? That’s time traveling. I often go back in time by thinking back to old times when I was a kid.
Travelling through time is certainly easy to imagine. You step into the time machine; press a few buttons; and emerge out not just anywhere – but anywhen. However, in reality things aren’t quite as convenient as science fiction would suggest, as you will understand later on.
What is time? Is time travel possible? When nothing is changing does time still exits ? Is that really true? Are you real? Metaphysics is a branch of philosophy that is significant to us when questions and other clams bring curiosity about whether things are real or not.

We have done a lot of research about space and have learned a lot with the technology we have. One of the main mysteries that we have not understood much is “the hole”. When I say “the hole” I mean the three main ones the black hole, white hole, and the wormhole. Each one is important in their own way, but this paper will be focused on black holes. I will briefly touch on theories that involve time travel, white holes, and wormholes.
The present paper discusses the relativistic Doppler effect and tries to found misunderstandings in the present state of the Special theory of relativity. The author's conclusion that he found some “blue shift” which contradicts with time dilation is wrong.
In an open loop time travel system the time traveler can change the future by influencing the past. In “Back to the Future”, after traveling back in time 30 years, Marty Mcfly attempts to save his father's life from an oncoming car. Little does he know the car wasn't destined to kill his father, but cause his mother and father to meet. Now Marty’s mother is infatuated with Marty and he must figure out how to reverse this, and get back to the future with no plutonium left. This is a perfect example of open looped time travel because Marty was able to change the past in ways that influenced the future. We see this when Marty starts to fade out of existence because his mother no longer knows his father. If we were dealing with a closed loop system, Marty pushing his father out of the way of the car would probably have been the thing causing his father and mother to meet in the first place.
Many stories are derived from stories from the past. Walt Disney’s popular movie, The Lion King, is based on the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare. This is just one out of many things that are from the past that appears in novels and films today. Mary Shelley’s novel Frankenstein is a novel about a mad scientist who wants to make an immense discovery as said by Brett Weiss, “The Frankenstein monster first lumbered into existence in 1818 in Mary Shelley's classic novel Frankenstein; Or, The Modern Prometheus, a work that many have called the first science-fiction story.” (Weiss, Brett). Well, this mad scientist, Victor Frankenstein, eventually makes his discovery: the secret of life. He ultimately creates a monster out of body parts he dug from graves, strikes the sewn up corpse with lightning and the monster is created. Yet, instead of being overjoyed about his creation and discovery, he is bitterly disappointed about what he has done and abandons the creature. After this, the creature murders all of Victor’s family and friends to get revenge and the monster eventually kills Dr. Frankenstein and commits suicide. On the other hand, the story of Prometheus, the man who discovered fire and wanted to show his discovery to the other humans, but the God Zeus says no, but Prometheus does it anyways and is ultimately punished by getting his heart eaten out by an eagle for an eternity. Yet, the funny thing is that even though Prometheus is in excruciating pain, he still screams at Zeus that he would do it again. Victor and the monster from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein are both like Prometheus, and Victor ultimately rises as the hero in the novel.
The time travel. I won’t go into the details because time travel isn’t a real thing
In this paper I will argue that there is a significant difference in the way time travel to the future is possible as compared to time travel from the past is possible. While there are many similarities especially in the physical act of potential time travel, the logical aspect of time travel can cause a plethora of problems. Both the differences in physical possibility and logical possibility will be compared primarily given a few interpretations established during this class.
Throughout the ages, outstanding physicists, to the movies, to some of the greatest science fiction novels of all time, have pondered the idea of time-travel. The thought of actually being able to travel to another time or universe has long since enthralled, enveloped, and overwhelmed some of the greatest minds in the history of physics. No one person can actually prove any of their theories, but a few actually make sense. Meaning that they do not violate the laws of physics. One of the main theories suggested, are wormholes. Wormholes are considered to connect two regions of flat space-time, two universes, or two parts of the same universe. There is a lot of theoretical evidence that wormholes exist, with an equal amount of evidence that they do not exist. However, no matter what one’s belief is, the existence of wormholes still makes you wonder…
Herbert George (H.G.) Wells’ 1895 scientific romance novella, The Time Machine, is considered to be one of the forerunners of the science fiction genre. Whilst the story was not the first to explore the concept of time travel, it is quite significant for its pseudoscientific account of how time travel could perhaps occur, this interpretation has shown to be quite influential to numerous productions in both media and literature. Wells explores a number of themes throughout this novella, however there are three prominent ones, the relativity of time, social Darwinism and evolution, and capitalism. These themes explore concepts which are relevant to society and creates connections with the intended 19th century audience.
Now that we have explored my past, present, and future experiences with diversity, it is time to see how they are present within and effect each other. Firstly, let’s look into how my future is present in my past. The most obvious portion of my future that is in my past is my willingness and efforts to love and include everyone and to spread this world view. It took a fellow classmate of mine to demonstrate to my third grade self that we are all human beings and we all deserve to be treated as such. In my future, I aspire to demonstrate this world view to my students and inspire them to treat each other accordingly. This aspiration directly reflects my world view struggles I went through in third grade, for I want to help my students come to
There is nothing quite like traveling, going someplace new and finding out more about the world and yourself. Anyone can become a traveler it just takes a little bit of faith and courage. Traveling across the world or even across the country is a learning experience. When you are a traveler you see how people live and how different cultures work. It is the best educational experience you could give yourself. You see how the world works in a way no one can teach you. Seeing different cultures and people help build the person you want to be. If you are a traveler the world influences you, because when traveling, you see the good and the bad, and you learn from the right and the wrong. I am very lucky that I am able to be a traveler and see this
