One Thursday evening, four or five men assembled for dinner at a friend's home near London. But as the evening passed, their host failed to appear. Finally, at half past seven the guests agreed it was a pity to spoil a good dinner and seated themselves to a delicious meal. The main topic of their conversation was time travel, a subject their host had seriously argued as a valid theory during an earlier dinner. He had gone so far as to show them the model of a curious machine he had built, which, he declared, could travel through the fourth dimension - time. While the guests conversed, the door suddenly opened and in limped their host. He was in a state of disarray. His coat was dusty, dirty and smeared with green; his hair was markedly grayer than the last time they had seen him, his face pale, and his expression haggard and drawn as if by intense suffering. As he stumbled back through the door in tattered, bloodstained socks, he promised his guests that be would return shortly with an explanation for his actions and appearance. Soon after, the gentleman did reappear, and commenced with his remarkable story: That morning, his machine at last completed, he had begun his journey through time. Increasing the angle of his levers, at first he was able to maintain a sense of time and place. His laboratory still looked the same, but slowly its image dimmed. Then, faster and faster, night followed day, until the palpitation of night and day merged into one continuous grayness. New questions sprun up in the Traveller's mind: What had happened to civilization? How had humanity changed? Now he saw great and splendid architecture rising about him, while the surrounding expanse became a richer green, with no interruptions made by winter. The Time Traveller decided to stop. He fell from his machine to find himself at the foot of a colossal, winged, sphinx-like figure carved out of white stone on a bronze pedestal. The huge image, outlined by earlymorning mist, made him somewhat ill at ease. Then he noticed figures approaching,- slight creatures, perhaps four feet high, very beautiful and graceful, but indescribably frail. These beings advanced toward the Time Traveller, laughing without fear, and began touching him all over. "So these are the citizens of the future," he mused. They acted like five-yearold children, and the Traveller was disappointed with their lack of intelligence and refinement.
In 1967 Billy Pilgrim was abducted by aliens called Tralfamadorians. “They had many wonderful things to teach Earthlings, especially about time” [26] Because of this Billy understands how time is structured, and changes his perception and understanding of human events.
...e away. Even when he made it into the future, and his time machine disappeared, he stayed calm and had faith in himself. He learned this “alien language”, and always kept trying. All it takes is the first step, and the world is at your fingertips. Riding a bike may seem terrifying before you know how, but once you can make it down the street once or twice, the rest will fall into place.
Recalling the similarities and differences of the house and occupants from the present to the past 1) the general structure of the house. 2) The fact that the stranger had a mother, a father, and a sister, and 3) where the strangers father and the current father sat for dinner. Out of all the differences brought up, the appearance of the house from the strangers memory seems to be the most noteworthy. For example the stranger stated “dark by day, dark by night” (Oates 327) probably due to the gloomy circumstances of his childhood. The stranger soon becomes distressed and agitated in the house which we find out is due to his fathers abusive nature. One moment in particular when memories started rushing in was when he looked at the window seat. The stranger describes the memory of his mother asking him riddles such as “ ‘What is round, and flat, measuring mere inches in one direction, and infinity in the other?’ ‘Out of what does our life arise? Out of what does our consciousness arise? Why are we here? Where is here?’” (Oates 328). These questions just like the act of violence and abuse don’t have a definitive answer but they go on and on until the answer to the question eventually become the question itself. The stranger goes on with his tour and continues upstairs and its noted that the son and the stranger had the same bedroom. The mother and father ask if the stranger wants to see their room but the stranger

This essay will focus on this ideas, along with other temporal themes, providing an in-depth analysis of time throughout the body of his works, with a specific focus on The Garden of Forking Paths. All that could be heard was the distant wail of an ambulance siren, which rent the bitter evening air like a butcher’s knife through a carcass. It would’ve been hard to believe that only minutes ago the place had been alive with crowds and commotion and excitement; for now it stood empty. It seemed that time itself had stopped: that every clock, timepiece, wristwatch in the world had ceased to tick.

Time Travel has always struck close to the imagination of the minds. From H.G. Wells ' "The Time Machine" to blockbuster films like "Back to the Future" - for years, time travel was the stuff of science fiction and crazy-eyed mad men but as physicists approach the subject of time travel with new advances in scientific theories and equipment, the possibility of time travel has become a more legitimate field for scientific endeavours. The transformation of mankind into bestial Morlocks and Eloi lasted for centuries and developed a feud between the two species. Through these images of Eloi and Marlocks, the author displays the problems that may affect the social world, and a lot of human qualities would be lost. He returned back home morally broken and oppressed from all the disastrous consequences of the 802701 year. ...God in this future except when something new being fear and uncertainty comes up and the time traveler feels legitimately in danger. The topics Wells chooses to discuss are very relevant and except for the physical depiction of the creatures in the future, the issue of the lower class being oppressed and revolting against the upper class and especially the meaning of life are large issues that have and probably will come to life in to future. H.G. Wells’s bleak depiction of the future through The Time Machine is one with many warnings and an almost Marxist view against capitalism and its downsides. H.G. Wells chooses to include a symbol of hope through the fragile and tender white flowers, a symbol of hope to human kind to be encouraged about the fact that wherever life may lead human kind, that there is always hope and this is a very plausible outcome for mankind.
