If one were to glance into the classrooms of Timberlane Middle School, in Pennington, NJ, one would observe 90 master teachers, educating more than 850 students, valiantly attempting to conduct instruction utilizing Google’s G Suite for Education applications. However, with an increased teacher workload and class sizes, new educational programs and initiatives, and an emphasis on preparing for high stakes testing, the full use of G Suite for Education applications by teachers have not been universally implemented beyond a cursory level. Furthermore, each student at Timberlane receives a Chromebook and instruction on G Suite for Education applications in a computer technology class, with the expectation they will utilize this knowledge to complete
teacher-created assignments in their core classes. However, despite student proficiency, numerous teachers utilize this tool as nothing more than a $500 notebook. To most students, experimenting with the applications such as those found in G Suite for Education is almost instinctual, but for their adult teachers, these tasks are more burdensome. Some applications such as Google Docs and G-mail have been adopted by the majority of the faculty, however, several staff members have explored possibilities afforded by the other applications made available through G Suite such as Sheets, Sites, Forms, Slides, and Hangouts. Moreover, these educators cannot be expected to independently explore the opportunities made possible by G Suite via Twitter chats, Feedly newsfeed or the Google for Education Training Center. In order for teachers to best be able to utilize the technological tools at their disposal with G Suite for Education, they are in need of continuous monthly workshop based instruction covering the implementation of these applications into instruction.
Thomas Jefferson was a man who believed that all American citizens need to be educated so that they may exercise their rights. He saw public education as essential to a democracy. One proposal he made for public education would guarantee that all children could attend public schools for three years. However, much like other early school reforms, this proposal received much rejection and was never brought into being. Despite this rejection, Jefferson still believed that America needed public education. Eventually, he opened the University of Virginia. Even though his bills and proposals to benefit public education never saw the light of day, he still made many contributions to public education by providing the foundation on how a democracy should handle educating its
High school is a time for students to develop new interests, talents, and hobbies. As well as, prepare them with material they need for college or the workforce. Most schools, Sequoyah High School being amongst one of these schools, are lacking the resources that students need in order to pursue these academic interests. Although Sequoyah High School is a great high school for students in Monroe County, there are several issues that still need to change in order to help better the school system as a whole.
Working as an Instructional Technology Specialist for the past seven years has provided many opportunities to observe teachers and students in a classroom setting. During this time teachers have been in the process of phasing in a new standards-based curriculum with an emphasis on student mastery of these standards. New technology tools have also been incorporated in many classrooms including studen...
The organization I work for is a nursing home management company. That’s the simple definition. Health Services Management Group manages of the operations of eleven (11) skilled nursing facilities (SNF), and three (3) home health agencies (HHA). Each of the SNFs and HHAs are operated/licensed by a single purpose entity. Of these long term care providers, one (1) SNF and two (2) HHAs are operated as non-profit organizations. The purpose of the non-profit providers, ultimately, is to fund The Trousdale School. “Trousdale School serves high functioning adults with intellectual disabilities, providing academics and life skills for the purpose of learning independence.” 1
At the Oakes Public Schools, the coaching contract is a section of the teachers negotiated agreement. The contract also states that all efforts will be made to fill all extracurricular positions with teaching faculty, and any community members may have their job re-posted following the season, regardless of performance. For faculty members, the contract is also annual, and renewed pending evaluation. North Dakota does not have tenure, so all teachers are year-to-year employees, as are coaches.
“Leadership is a relationship between those who aspire to lead and those who choose to follow” (Kouzes and Posner, p. 30). Over the past two years, Sunshine Elementary School has experienced an extremely high turnover rate. To reduce and improve past destruction, staff will learn to model the way by demonstrating the values set forth by myself. The values are the standard that will assist in the development of an organization filled with a variety of leadership that will create an atmosphere of a superb leadership growth school wide. Sunshine Elementary School (SES) is the pilot for this leadership development blueprint for Pflugerville Independent
After shoving all the books, folders, binders, workbooks, pencil bags, a backpack, a coat, and addition items into the locker, barely any room remains. This usually resorts in the demolishing of expensive textbooks by students which is highly wasteful. This is one prime reason chromebooks were seeked out by school districts and welcomed by so many. The chromebook is lightweight, usually weighing approximately 3 pounds, is very slim in size, and is generally eleven to twelve inches in length (Chromebooks and Education: A Perfect Match). One may conclude the chromebook is merely another pricey item to place in a student’s locker, but the chromebook actually allows for students to have online textbooks, email, additional Apps, and a Google Docs. These features may seem miniscule, but to users the chromebook combines all the necessities into one small device. All of the tools that could be found in a student’s locker can be found on the chromebook which makes life a lot easier for students to transport and organize. This feature makes the chromebook desired by many including the school because less money is spent purchasing new textbooks for students, and by the students because instead of having to lug around textbooks, folders, and binders from classroom to classroom, only a chromebook is
Students at East Brooklyn Community High School literacy level are very low. Students have trouble comprehending material, analyzing, writing, reading and using vocabulary words. Each lesson plan throughout a unit targets a learning strategy. My goal is to attack the use of vocabulary and building inquiry so students can become better reader and writers. Going into fieldwork my over arching question is How can I engage students to build confidence to have a successful education at EBC High School despite their failures prior to attending EBC High School? Students come to this transfer school because formal high school did not work for them. My goal as a teacher at EBC High School can be somewhat challenging with students coming in with financial,
The Respondent, Edward Schempp, a unitarian, filed a law suit against the Abington School District for a state law that required students to read at least 10 bible verses and recite the Lord’s Prayer at the beginning of school as part of their public education.
My mission is to use my degree in Curriculum Instruction with Instructional Technology with my classroom. In doing so I am committed to being consistent, agile, reliable, and accessible to all. I want to continue to teach through technology while encouraging creative and critical thinking. While using chromebooks in the classroom the students will be able to complete online assignments that will be assigned throughout the year. For the students that need extra help they will be able to work on individual assignments. The programs that I am using this year are Prodigy and Mobymax. Prodigy allows students to play and learn math to strengthen skills that they are lacking. Mobymax allows the students to see how they are progressing in all subject
The typical population of the New Hopewell Elementary School is more toward families who have low income and sometimes cannot provide the necessary resources or opportunities to their children. This is where a community school like New Hopewell intervenes and helps. The school provides healthy and dental plans to families who can not have one. Services such as tutoring, academic enrichment, and counseling for families can be received. They also really encourage and implement family engagement. The school offers many after-school programs for the students to get involved with and allows for many volunteer opportunities for families. I am very surprised at the number of programs they offer after school because they have something for everybody
Our schools have progressed tremendously in the past century. In fact, in the past three decades, we have seen much progression with the use of computers in the classroom. We have gone from one room school houses with one teacher teaching many grades, to schools that may be two stories high or more with many teachers for each grade.More students are in school in today’s society than there...
As new technologies evolve, our ability to communicate, access knowledge, and connect with others has changed dramatically. Sharing information is easier than ever before, as communication can occur at any place, at any time. The Internet hosts countless applications and digital services that have changed the way we connect with others, especially in the field of education. Google Apps for Education is one service that allows written and digital communication to occur. Providing use of Google products that are standard with traditional Gmail accounts, Google Apps for Education allows for teachers and students to create, share, collaborate, and even engage socially through this platform. The uses of Google Docs and Google Drive, in particular, have revolutionized the modern American classroom at the K-12 level by eliminating the concept of classroom walls. With cloud-based access to Docs and Drive at all times, students are able to produce high-quality documents and projects that can be shared with real-world audience and are now empowered to take a more active roles in their educational experiences. Student voices are now being heard and shared through these specific applications in higher frequency than ever before.
According to The Wallace Foundation (n.d.), “It goes almost without saying that kids today are absorbed in computers, cell phones, video games, television and other media-spending an average of 7 hours and 38 minutes a day with the gadgetry.” Also, Richardson (2013) states that “it 's hard not to look at it as great news for kids, who will see growing availability of computers and access as a means to learn deeply and passionately in ways the current system of schooling was never built for.” Talking about math, Sousa (2015) said that “technology use can help students make significant gains in mathematical achievement and conceptual understanding.” (p. 130). Classroom is a new tool in Google Apps for Education that helps teachers create and organize assignments quickly, provide feedback efficiently, and easily communicate with their classes. (Google Classroom, n.d.). Students can keep track of what’s due to the Assignments page and begin working with just a click and can create presentations using Google Slides. One of the advantages is that they can work using any technology, including computers, iPad, tablets, and smartphones. Teachers can create surveys, quizzes or any assessment using Google Forms and its add-ons. Another advantage is that students and teachers can work from anyplace with Internet access. Teachers can use this platform to prepare the classes from their homes, and give real-time feedback to
The use of computers in school classrooms has evolved throughout the years, and has become revolutionary in changing the way we teach and learn. Our classrooms should no longer be confined to four walls and a few teachers who are considered to be experts in knowledge. Our classrooms need to keep up with a changing society and a new world that is dependent on technology. As students graduate, they need the technological skills needed to thrive in a world in which technology sets the pace. Society expects the school system to produce functional citizens who have the skills to gain profitable employment, and not be a drain on the system.
