Have you ever had that one thing that keeps you comfortable, happy, or an item that keeps you being yourself. In “The Things They Carried,” has many different aspects of the items that were in, Tim O’Brien’s book. I’m writing this work on what the symbiotic value for some of the object the soldiers carried for comfort, remembrance, joy, and or for luck. Most of these items were given to them after or before they went to war, they were passed down to the young men by their family, friends, or loved ones. See like I said most of the things they carried depends on their job in the war. For one of the characters it’s based on religion, Kiowa is a very religious person as for his family. Before Kiowa left for the war he was given and illustrated version of the new testament and in the book when they were camping in the tower, Kiowa got a bad religious feeling telling him that they shouldn’t be there, but the stayed anyways. So when Kiowa left, his father gave him the New testament like I said earlier before Kiowa left for war. My guess is that Kiowa’s father gave him that so he never forgets what he has at home. Thirdly the next person I’m going to explain what he carried was a pebble and pictures. The picture and letters he carried was pictures and letters from his girlfriend back home, he describes this girl in grave detail, saying he wants to do dirty stuff to her and cress her knee because if he does anymore her innocence would be gone. He carries this picture for comfort and for giving him something to think about, But when one of his comrades gets shot he gets rid of all those pictures, when he got rid of those photos she didn’t hear from him so she gave him another thing of reminder when they were together on this trip was a
