When Tim McGraw was 18 he began to build a relationship with his dad when he needed financial assistance for college. Tim McGraw wanted to be in a sports career but it ended when he got a knee injury in Northeastern Louisiana University. Later Tim McGraw bought his first guitar and started playing in clubs, this has led him to love music more and more everyday. Tim McGraw soon went to Nashville when his role model Keith Whitley had just passed away in 1989. Tim McGraw then started circulating tapes, he sent one to his dad and his dad sent it to Curb Recording where Tim McGraw got a recording contract.
