Redemption happens all around. Redemption occurs throughout history in people’s lives at some point in time. One example of redemption in history is in the Bible when Saul persecuted the Lord, but then he realizes that the light of God was the right way to live. After he follows God, his name is changed to Paul. As explained, redemption is a theme even from thousands of years ago. Tim Allen grew up with a difficult life and went through a few stepping stones that allowed him to grow, so he could be where he is today. He was convicted of drug dealing and drunk driving throughout his younger life. Allen obtained a rough upbringing, which lead to the downfall, but then he picked himself back up and continued to improve his life. Allen grew up with a more callous life than most live. “Allen, who was born Timothy Dick, had a fraught upbringing. In 1964, when he was 11, his father was killed in a car accident while returning …show more content…
from a University of Colorado football game. Two years later his family moved to Michigan, and his mom remarried” (Sargent). After Allen’s dad died, Allen started to slip, and he started to sell drugs. Allen didn’t like that his mom was getting remarried. When Allen met his girlfriend at the time, he started to sell the drugs to bring in money. There was a buildup of events that led to his start of selling drugs, and he did it for many reasons. “He eventually matriculated at Central Michigan University, but soon transferred to Western Michigan University, in Kalamazoo, where he would meet his first wife and, according to one biography, begin dealing drugs” (Sargent). Allen went to college and that’s where he earned his radio, television production degree. He loved shop class growing up, but he later began to love performing. Once he graduated, he began working in comedy shows and then went to work on ads and TV shows. After college, he unquestionably began to turn his life around. Allen went through a long process to get where he is to this day. Allen went through two intense struggles that surely halted Allen’s life and they all happened because of his tough past.
Allen sold drugs-including cocaine-and was caught smuggling them into the airport (Tim Allen). Allen was going to be meeting someone at the airport to sell them 1.4 lbs., but he was caught in the process and then went to jail for about 60 days before he pleaded guilty. After pleading guilty, he then spent seven and a half years in jail before being released on parole. His girlfriend was one reason he started the drug dealing business. In 1997, Allen was charged with drunk driving, and he immediately was forced to go into rehab by the police (Biography). Allen already turned himself around, but he had a little mess up. After he was charged with the DUI, he realized what he needed to do to turn his life around for the rest of his life, so he did what he could for the better. He went through two specific troubles, but he was able to turn his life around with multiple things. He was given many opportunities, and he began to take
them. Allen did various things to pick up his act because he knew it was essential to living a better life. He learned how to fix his mistakes. After parole, he worked at an ad agency and a comedian club where he joked about jail (Tim Allen). Allen was done with his narcotic selling days, and he started to turn his life around by making money the right way. He actually used his talents in a better way. Allen learned that he could make people happy by making them laugh instead of high. He, at this time, broke up with his girlfriend and started making money from the comedy clubs, the ads, and the commercials he was in as a source of income. Allen attended rehab after he was charged with a DUI (Tim Allen). Allen realized he needed to turn his life around again, so he attended rehab to pull himself together; he has been sober since. Allen now performs in family films and several TV shows that families watch. He acquired his top year for the comedian club and ads in 1994 before the DUI but still to this day, he performs with family productions. A second chance is important because we are all humans and humans make mistakes. Second chances are the time to make things better and create a better situation out of an unscrupulous one. The society would be complete chaos if we didn’t believe in second chances. Allen redeemed himself, after surviving through a terrible upbringing and bumps in the roads, to be where he is today. Allen’s father died when he was very young, and his mother remarried shortly after making him try to set his mind on something else, which ended up being drug dealing. Allen was caught selling drugs at an airport and then later charged with a DUI. He received his second chance by going to rehab and redirecting his talents to something more productive and safer. He redeemed himself. There is a right way to live and a wrong way to live, although those ways vary. Like Paul, Allen realized what he was doing was wrong, and he needed to improve his life. Once he realized this, he changed his life for the better. Allen found the light of God.

Allen, in the beginning, is very apprehensive about meeting new people. He does not want to get attached to someone new and lose them too. When Maggie discovers his wedding band, she believes it indicates that he is still holding on to the past, and “wonders if it symbolized some lingering attachment to an ex-wife” (13). Later, Allen’s wife, Claire, and daughter, Miranda, died in a car accident trying to get Allen out of the airport. When Maggie and Allen were going to get coffee one day, Maggie was calling for Allen’s attention when she accidentally stepped in front of oncoming traffic.

However, this only opened the door to a significant social change in his life. He, consequently, became involved in the life of dealing drugs that his mother and brother strived so arduously to prevent him from starting. Wes was arrested several times throughout his life starting at the early age of eight, when he attempted to stab another kid. He was also arrested for selling drugs and again for the attempted murder of a man. Another significant change for him was when he went to Job Corps, and was academically successful. Unfortunately, the reality of the world he left behind; such as, supporting his kids drove him to return to dealing, and later ...
It started with one wrong decision that led to more wrong decisions, and that’s how he ended up where he is now, in jail.
In the early 70s multiple DEA agents came knocking at Waylon’s offices. They were waiting for a search warrant to look for a drug shipment from New York (Dansby). “We can change anything. We can make a just and peaceful world. History has shown that a genuine people’s movement can move more than governments. It can move mountains” (World People 's Blog, 2006). These are the insightful words of Faith Bandler, one of the most significant women in the ten-year campaign for the rights of the Australian Aboriginal which ultimately led to the 1967 Referendum. Faith Bandler was given many popular awards by the media some of which include; being listed as a national living treasure in 1997 by The National Trust, being included as one of the 100 most influential Australians of the 20th century by the Herald in 2001, and being included in a list of 50 women considered the most influential in the world by The Good
As humans, we are entitled to making mistakes in our lives, but by forgiving one free himself from anger. Marianne Williamson wrote this about forgiveness: “ Forgiveness is not always easy. At times, it feels more painful than the wound we suffered, to forgive the one that inflicted it. And yet, there is no peace without forgiveness.” In the book The Glass Castle undergoes many difficult circumstances in which the act of forgiveness is the only way to be at peace with her family, but more importantly herself. But the real question is does she truly forgive them. Jeanette’s ability to constantly forgive her parents enabled her to have a positive attitude because the negativity was released when
In Jon Krakauer’s Into the Wild, Christopher McCandless gives up all his material possessions to seek fulfillment in the Alaskan Wilderness. In doing this, Chris is able to escape from his parents and live the life of many transcendentalists that he’s read about. As John Muir once said, “The mountains are calling and I must go.” Like John Muir, Chris has developed such a profound love for nature that he is called into the wild by it. Ultimately, Chris’s life decisions are a fascinating paradox that make him both a transcendentalist hero and a fool.
Redemption is a word that contains various meanings. It could be referring to forgiveness, or recovery. Perhaps an escape from something. It is something that everybody yearns for, but cannot quite grasp in their hands. It is not something that we can look for and find. In fact, redemption often comes our way on its own when we expect it the least. Three characters from three stories go through different conflicts and redeem themselves in ways they never would have guessed. Some even found redemption with the help of others. Guy Montag from the novel Fahrenheit 451 finds redemption through freedom and liberation. The lawyer in the short story The Bet redeems himself by way of recovery. Edmond Dantes achieved his redemption through deception. These three characters redeem themselves in different ways, but something they all share is that they all go through the process of redemption and become reformed in some way.
With the field of philosophy, the concept of "desert" suggests the status of deserving a particular response based upon prior action. The term is often invoked within conversations dealing with blame and justice. However, philosophers disagree on whether desert justifies responsive behaviors such as punishment or revenge. This debate is particularly significantly within the context of a legal system that purports to punish criminals in a manner that is consistent with their crimes.
Retribution is a justification for punishment and not a theory about substantive criminal law. But what justifies also limits. Retribution offers solid moral bases for opposing overcriminalization. Retribution is the type of punishment that indicating the vengeance or revenge. It is the idea of an ‘eye for an eye’ or ‘tooth for a tooth’ basis. The punishments given are for the response to the offender to the crime that he had done. For example, the death penalty to the crime of murder. It is a form of ‘striking back’ . Basically, there are two rationales in this theory of punishment are first, for the victims or their relatives in the case of death, that the state represent for their dissatisfaction towards the offender. Besides, this also protect from they having private retaliation to the offender. Second, is for the public at large that the public has a need for revenge. Punishment is considered an expression of justified anger by the victim due to the violation of trust demanded by society .
Allen has had his name in all over the news for most his life, but not all of this publicity has been good. In the 1990s Allen was seeing a women, Mia Farrow. Woody Allen and Farrow never did marry, but they were involved with each other even raising two of the many children farrow had adopted. Then Woody and Mia had a son of their own. Tragedy struck when the public learned of Allen’s affair with Farrow’s twenty one year old adopted daughter named Soon-Yi Previn. Allen has been public seen fighting for custody for the three children. He was accused of child abuse, but this was never proven in court. Nevertheless Woody lost custody of his children. He would later marry Soon-Yi Previn, making her his third wife (The first two ended in divorce). This would go to tarnish his name setting him back in the industry. He was labeled as hypocrite as many of his plays and films talked of virtue. He still released plays, but were overshadowed by this event. Don’t Drink the Water was one of his earlier works. As talked about in the book “backwards and Forwards” by David Ball. “Playwrights-even great ones- do
In Ian McEwan’s novel Atonement, he illustrates a Bildungsroman, a coming of age of novel, that shows the reflection of the young protagonist Briony Tallis. From a young age, Briony was passionate about writing and desires to become a sophisticated writer that has recognition for her works. However, there is an alternative motive to her writing since it is her coping mechanism to the demons in her head and she chooses to express her thoughts and frustrations through her work. When Briony receives her rejection letter from the paper for her novel, McEwan reveals that people hide behind their decisions and attempt to justify their actions until others scrutinize their former mistakes.
Forgiveness is the act of releasing an offender of any wrong or hurt they may have caused you whether they deserve it or not. It is a decision to let go of resentment or vengeance toward a person or group of people. When we choose to forgive, we’re wiping the slate clean, cancelling a debt, or as I love to say, “Letting it go.” In the Bible, the Greek word for forgiveness literally means to “let it go.” This concept, “forgiveness,” is easier said than done. Majority of people find it very difficult to let go of offenses and hurts caused by others. I really do believe that most people desire to let it go, but we lack the knowledge of how to do it. As believers, we are instructed by God maintain an attitude of forgiveness.
