Charles Macdonald was an early founder of American golf. He recalled playing golf in the Chicago area as early as 1875. Another promoter of golf, a young man named Andrew Bell from Burlington, Iowa, was initially exposed to golf when he went to Scotland to attend the University of Edinburgh. Upon his return to the United States in 1883, he laid out four informal golf holes on the family farm and played a few rounds with his friends. In 1884 Colonel Hamilton Gillispie, a former Scotsman who went into the lumber business in Florida, was known to hit golf balls in a field that is now the main street of Sarasota (History of Golf 7). Also in 1884, the Oakhurst Golf Club was formed in North Carolina now famous for it’s first hole from the Club’s Homestead course, celebrated to...
Pete Rose Bart Giamatti’s decision to ban Pete Rose from the Baseball Hall of Fame was not a fair decision at all. Pete Rose was placed on Baseball’s ineligible list in 1989 when commissioner of baseball, Bart Giamatti, concluded that Rose had bet on baseball games, including games involving his own team, the Cincinnati Reds. In an agreement made with Baseball, Rose accepted his banishment from the sport. Although he never admitted to having gambled at baseball games (Maury). Pete Rose was a phenomenal baseball player and manager.
he was age 5, in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, Canada. By the time he reached age 7, was able to
Yan Martel and William Blake described the tiger’s appearance, soul, and creation similarly. Both authors felt that tigers are fierce, strong, majestic and so on, however they also said how fearful tigers are.
Like Muhammad Ali is to boxing and Michael Jordan is to basketball, Tiger Woods is considered by many to be the greatest golfer of all time. Due to his incredible playing on the course, his young age, and the endorsement deals he signed with major advertising companies, Tiger Woods’ fans place him on the “best of the best” list in professional sports. Society places an enormous amount of responsibilities on its champions or favorites. “ Sure, he is good on the course, but how well does he support society? What does he stand for”, the public says. There is more to Tiger Woods than a good golf swing or how well he can say “ Buy these shoes” in front of the advertisers’ cameras. Even though Tiger would never say it, his influence over the game of golf and society as a whole far outreaches the twenty-six years he spent on the planet so far.
Born Eldrick T. Woods on December 30, 1975, in Cypress, Calif., golf phenom Tiger Woods has had a career nothing short of spectacular. His father, Earl Woods, began teaching his son the game when he was just a year old. In fact, Tiger's skills were so good at such a young age that it landed him an appearance on the Mike Douglas Show in 1978. The two-year-old Woods' appearance put him up against legendary comedian Bob Hope in a putting contest. At three, he shot a 48 over nine holes at one of his hometown courses. When Tiger was five he appeared on television's "That's Incredible" and in Golf Digest magazine.
While visiting the hall of fame for a particular sport one would expect to see exhibits, busts, and plaques showcasing the most significant people and various record-holders in the sports history. Thus to the casual observer it may come as a quite shock that the baseball player with the most hits in baseball history is absent from it’s Hall of Fame. The Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York contains no mention of the game’s career hit leader because Pete Rose, he of a record 4256 career hits, had been permanently suspended from the game of baseball since 1989. (Rychlak, 1998) On August 24, 1989, Bart Giamatti, the commissioner of the MLB (Major League Baseball) suspended Pete Rose indefinitely for betting on the game of baseball. (Higgins, 1990) Of the reasons for his indefinite suspension, perhaps the most disturbing was Rose’s alleged gambling on games featuring the Cincinnati Reds, a club that he had been managing at the time of his banishment. (Chass, 1989) For the first 15 years of his indefinite suspension Rose would vehemently denied any and every accusation of him having ever bet on baseball, only to finally admit to having done so in his 2004 autobiography My Prison Without Bars. (Dodd, 2004) Pete Rose will not be able to enter the Baseball Hall of Fame until his indefinite suspension ends because the Executive Committee that runs the hall of fame prevents suspended players from appearing on ballots that are sent to the voters at the Baseball Writers Association. (Rychalak, 1998) Baseball’s hesitancy to honor someone who had put it’s credibility at a serious risk is understandable but Rose’s impact on the game of the baseball is so substantial that it’d be a travesty for him to not eventually have at least some ...
Eldrick (Tiger) Woods was born on December 30, 1975 in Cypress, California to Earl and Kultida Woods. He was the only child from this particular marriage but had two half-brothers and one half-sister from his parents’ previous marriages. Tiger is a combination of a few different ethnicities (Caucasian, American Indian, Black, and Asian). He labels himself as “Cablinasian“. His father introduced him to golf at the age of 2, and from this early age, he was recognized as a golf prodigy. Tiger appeared on the Mike Douglas Show to showcase his skills in 1978 and progressed in the sport of golf as his father tutored him. He won the 9-10 age group at age 8 in 1982 for the Junior World Golf Championships, and won this tournament an overall amount of six times. He won many tournaments at a young age, some of which include the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, and the U.S. Amateur Championship. Even at this early in Tiger’s career, it was obvious that he would become a great golf legend later in life.

David Beckham is the one sports star, who not only is a phenominal player, but is probably the most famous sports icon outside just soccer. It is definetely harder to find someone that has not heard of David Beckham, than someone who has. People occasionaly wonder, however; "Why Beckham? Why is he so famous?" The answer might not be very simple, but maybe it is the combination of a great shot, a fantastic cross, his own Adidas shoe, his changing hair-style, his modeling career, his marriage to the Spice Girl Victoria Beckham (formerly Adams), his big mistake against Argentina in the 1998 World Cup, his England capitancy and him having belonged to the two largest teams in history that make him so popular among the crowd. When one reads David Beckham's autobiography, David Beckham My Side, something that is surely visible and clear, is his igoistic thoughts and life-style.
