Tibetan Women Under Chinese Occupation
Prior to the Chinese occupation of Tibet in 1959, Tibetan women were treated with the utmost respect. They served as equals to men, nothing less and in some instances even more. However, since the Chinese have occupied Tibet the status of Tibetan women in the country has changed. Women’s basic human rights are violated every day under the Chinese, rights such as reproduction and education. They face violence and coercion and must live their lives in an entirely new way.
Women in Tibet prior to the Chinese takeover had a very high social status. They played very active roles in the family as well as in society as a whole. Women were warriors, princesses, leaders, mothers, traders, and business women. There was no sense of a woman being inferior to men in society nor was there a need for women to be limited in what they were supposed to do. Tibetans practiced an egalitarian way of living.
Polyandry was an acceptable practice as was divorce and remarriage (especially by widows). It is made clear, however, that the practice of polyandry was restricted. The woman would marry her husband and all of his younger brothers were included as shared husbands. Women were not subjected to pay a dowry; in fact it was quite the opposite.
“Apart from rich widows or women whom the generosity of their lovers has provided with enviable possessions, no Tibetan woman need fear that she is being asked in marriage for the sake of her money; for, instead of receiving a dowry, the fiancé has to pay a sum, termed nu rin, as suitable compensation for the trouble and money her parents have expended in bringing up their child, who is now going to be taken from them to profit of another family.” (David-Neel, 178)
Marriage seemed to be a place where women gained some ground. They and their families played a large role in the marriage process and had the dominating hand. In most cases the parents have the final say in who their daughter marries, but a woman has the option of divorce though it is not easy.
We should be concerned about the health of the animals that we are eating because if they are not consuming any healthy food we will not get our required nutrients. In the movie Food Inc. it shows how cows are only supposed to eat grass which is essential to them however we are now feeding them corn which makes the cows bigger and fatter faster than usual but there are many things wrong with it. This could cause Cows to raise the acid level this also creates existence for the dangerous disease E. Coli. E. Coli is a bacteria that is inside your intestines that helps you break down food. When cows are fed corn it also decreases the healthy acids such as Omega-3 and increases Omega-6 which is unhealthy. We should also care about their living conditions because a cow is in one area for most of the day just eating corn and when cows eat corn they tend to poop a lot. It is crowded in the eating area for cows so when they poop it falls on the ground and they eat so much corn that they just keep pooping so eventually they start stepping in it and this would cause them to get diseases. Some farmers when they slaughter them they do check for diseases but some don’t, so the diseases travel with the cow and onto your dinner plate which means that you could be eating an infected cow without knowing it. This could give you diseases and it could cause death. In Food Inc. they showed an example of a boy called Kevin who died because of consuming some unsanitary meat. He got E. Coli and died 12 days later. This proves that this should not be taken lightly because many people die from diseases similar to this one.

Regardless of location, revolutions have always had an effect on women's role in society and on themselves as well. Some Revolutions gave women more opportunities while others restricted them to domestic servants. During the Chinese revolution of 1949, women gained their greater rights and freedoms and joined various branches of the Women's National Salvation League, while education rights were given to city women it didn't spread countryside. In Iran, matters were taken in opposite directions in their revolution of 1979, where women had expected to receive equal opportunities and gender rights none were received. During the revolution and war women were expected to work in place of men in factories, but this arrangement was only seen by the government to be temporary. This did not remain so. Women were not to have a point of view in men's perspective and society's perspective before the revolution. Women revolted and paraded for their rights and freedom in both Iran and China, sometimes the government listened and other times they struck them down.
To help understand country music, it’s useful to look at the musical instruments. The fiddle/violin was the most common instrument since it was easy and inexpensive to make and light in weight. It was the sole lead instrument, but later it was popular to add more accompanying instruments. The banjo was brought to the American South by slaves and became popular in the mid-1800s. The guitar didn’t come along until the early 1900s when they became mass-produced and affordable for the everyday person. The guitar was used as a rhythmic instrument, but also became popular and used more often.
Online copyrights violation is a very serious problem, but censorship is not its solution. Online censorship in SOPA can decrease the number of copyright infringement online but are not able to change the apparent ignorance of the rules of copyrights among publics. More importantly, freedom of speech is a basic human right that should not be compromised under any circumstance.
Getting a divorce was very difficult, most nations would not even end a marriage by having legal consent. Court trials were expensive which made it hard for a women to afford. Even if a divorce was granted the women would not receive anything. The children, land, house, and all of her belongings would be given to the man. If the father choose he could take the children away from the mother at any time and give them to someone else to raise and care for.

Will racism ever come to an end or will its path go on infinitely? For the most part, the majority of people respect those who are different either in color, race, and/or heritage; however, there are those few that hold bigoted views towards people who are different than they are. The movie American History X by Tony Kaye displays an example of people who hold bigoted views. Derek, a Neo-Nazi leader, must contend with his actions relating to his past racist views and actions. This powerful movie explores its characters thoroughly and gives reasons why people become so callous and turn towards a racist group. It also exposes insight to problems that plague America when it comes to racism in everyday life, from schoolyards to basketball courts. All together American History X presents its watchers with an impressive theme that makes everyone who watches it take a step back and just say, “WOW!”
Country music has been an ever changing genre that evolves along with the lives of the people that listen and the artist that perform it. Today’s country music contains a wide variety of artists who have been influenced by the different subgenres that came before them. According to The Bedford Book of Genres “A genre is a composition’s kind, category, or sort. Genres give us a way to categorize or describe types of compositions”. (Braziller and Kleinfeld) Exactly what country music is today can be hard to define, but a look back at the history of the genre shows how it has adapted to the audience that listens to it and how current artist draw inspiration from it. There are two things we need to know
They have certainly come a long way from their early formulations” (Toselli, p. 14). As Agapakis noted, nitrocellulose continues to be the main ingredient in today’s nail polishes (2014, [online]). However it is with a slight twist, Toselli reported that the form of nitrocellulose is as nitrocellulose cotton, which is a liquid mixed with micro sized pieces of cotton (p. 14.). According to L’Oréal, there are “…four primary qualities of nail polish: application, drying, glossiness and duration” (2015, [online]). L’Oréal refers to the quality of application as the ease to which the nail polish goes on the finger nail (2015). The characteristic, drying, refers to the time length after applying the nail polish for it to be hard to the touch. Glossiness refers to the shine a polish gives off, while duration refers to the length of time a polish lasts on the nails before chipping occurs as L’Oréal has explained (2015). To achieve each characteristic in one bottle of nail polish different ingredients must be utilized. As Secret Ingredient: Nail Polish (2011, [online]) has stated, “Nail polish usually consists of four major types of ingredients: polymers, plasticizers, pigments and solvents.” Each of these ingredients contribute to the four primary qualities of nail polish. Besides the four major ingredients, there are a long list of additional
Anywhere you go in the world today, you see women with nails that are painted in so many different colors and designs. Nail polish dates back to the 1920’s when the first modern day nail varnish was invented by the Charles Revson Company. This particular invention has impacted the cosmetics market for women, because every women who wants to be stylish and express themselves in a fun way, buys nail polish. Nail varnishes have many components to make it both safe and user friendly. Some of the chemical components consist of: film forming agents and resins such as nitrocellulose, tosylamide and formaldehyde. Also, plasticizers are used for flexibility and solvents to keep the polish in a liquid form, along with different pigments for colors and shine. There are many more components that go into nail polish that will be explained later in this paper.
American History X (1998) illustrates how segregation is aggravated by missing father figures as well as the herd mentality of the characters in the film. German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche’s concept of the herd mentality states that people need a concept or a worldview to adopt in order to give meaning to their lives. This herding of people who choose to adopt this certain ideal or ideals in effect causes the stifling of individual thoughts or creativity because everyone chooses to think a certain way (Floyd). This mindset that people are attracted to is not always chosen or forced but is rather seen as an obligation because of loyalties certain people have to others.
Marriages were arranged. Because girls lived such sheltered lives, they usually had never even met the men their fathers agreed for them to marry. Men were mostly in their twenties when they got married, the girls were usually 15.
Marriage has gone through many changes throughout its history. It's earliest forms date back to the story of creation. It has developed a great deal since then. It is a simple fact that men and women can not survive without each other. Marriage is part of the created natural order, we were meant to be together.
