In Tibet, what they did for entertainment at their homes was that they played outside all day long when they were little. Yina said, “When I was young, I would sneak out of the house and play outside all day, so I wouldn’t have to do chores and more things”. Firstly, the relationship expectations in Chinese customs and traditions were strongly held onto. The daughters of the Chinese family were considered as a shame for the family. The Dalai Lama expresses the importance of publicity that has first been generated by the Tibetan Freedom Concert. Not only did it create awareness for the Chinese as the Dalai Lama suggested; it also created awareness around the world, especially in North America. Ask any North American teenager,"What they feel towards the idea of Tibetan oppression from the Chinese?", just ask him "Where Tibet is?" three years ago and he would probably look confused and answer by asking "Would you like fries with that?".<THIS MADE VERY LITTLE SENSE.> Ask that same teenager now, and he would likely give an educated response. The way Hinduism and Buddhism entered Southeast Asia was not the same, as well as when it entered and its influence of Indian culture that emerged into the area. Civilizations in Southeast Asia focused on an appreciation to nature, which resulted in a harmonious and equal relationship between man and nature. Southeast Asia had been depicted and known as the “golden island.” These Southeast Asian civilizations were characteristically composed from Hindu and Buddhist ways of life that influenced its people greatly. As Buddhism processed its way into Southeast Asia, the religion became culturally grounded once the people practiced it. Hinduism and Buddhism in Southeast Asia were influenced by Indian culture, which was accepted by the rulers and people of the area. Within examining the evidence it is assured that Southeast Asians adopted and adapted to these religions.
Spiritual belief can be a very powerful political force. It can be used as a method of oppression or a mode of revolution. For example it can also offer a spark of hope to people defying oppression at their own risk of violence and or death. The feeling of a reality greater than ourselves, and the belief in a spirit that eclipses the horrors of the world around us, can inspire strength, loyalty and faith. This is most noticeable in the Tibetan Independence Movement, which is where Buddhism has played a huge part in the counteraction of the totalitarian rule of the People’s Republic of China. The Tibetan Buddhist culture in Gyasumdo is in direct opposition to the Gurung shaman tradition in the region. Central to the differences in the religions is the red sacrifice. Tibetan Buddhists in the region had practiced this sacrifice throughout history even though it was in direct opposition to the Buddhist philosophy. However, through transmuting primal shamanic images into "higher teaching", Tibetan Buddhists have maintained the principles of their religion while still participating in the shamanic rituals of their neighbors.
Hinduism is a very popular religion in India, being that it could possibly be the oldest religion of all time and originated in India, the Hindu population in India is 80%. With Hinduism being such a popular religion, it competes with Christianity and Islam at 900 million followers of Hinduism worldwide (Miksic, 10). As for the popularity of Buddhism, it is not nearly as prevalent as Hinduism is, even in India. A very important attribute to Hinduism is the caste system. The caste system is comprised of five levels that each Hindu is born into and cannot switch out of or marry into another. These levels include the Brahmans, who are the highest caste and include priests, scholars and other professionals, Kshatriyas, who are typically known as the warriors and take authoritarian jobs such as police officers and other law enforcement positions, then are the Vaishyas, who are the merchants and agricultural laborers, Shudras, who are artisans and other providers of service, then we get to the lowest caste, which are the Periahs, also known as the untouchables who cannot look other in the eye and take janitorial jobs and other jobs dealing with filth and death (Miksic, pg 6).

The miraculous feats of the Tibetan oracles are well known sources of mysticism. Stories of men who can bend metal swords with their bare hands, dance wildly and proclaim the future have piqued the curiosity and fascination of many. However, most rationale people will question, how real is the Tibet oracle? Are these men really visited by the deities who they claim to be visited by or are they merely masters of illusion? “The desire to know the future is probably as old as the human race. Early cultures all over the world have left fragments of evidence telling us that divination was of paramount importance in their daily lives.” (Housdan, 7) This desire causes most Tibetans to fervently believe in the power of these oracles. Like most other cultures, the Tibetans are curious about the future and use the methodology of the Oracle as a means for divination. The Tibetan oracles are highly respected members of the community whom the Tibetans consult to find out the future of their own lives as well as the future of the Tibetan country.

It is paramount to understand Buddhism as a whole before breaking it down into its two Tibetan forms, Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism. Buddhism, a non-theistic religion which is very prevalent in Southeast Asia, was founded by Prince Siddhartha Gautama around the filth century B.C. Buddhism and Islam are one of the most widespread religions across Southeast Asian countries like Burma, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. Trade merchants and imperial support of the religion played as major factors which facilitated and localised the spread of Buddhism and Islam within various countries. However, there were limitations present which hindered the development of each religion in Southeast Asia as introduction of newer religions and changes within imperial power which would have affected their progression to become fully localised pre-1800s.
