Three Stages of Thunderstorm Formation
The kind of thunderstorms that produce our summer rains are called ordinary thunderstorms, or air mass thunderstorms. They form when warm, humid air rises in an unstable atmosphere. Warm air cools down as it rises, and once it becomes colder than the air around it, it will begin to fall back down. In an unstable atmosphere, the temperature of the surrounding air decreases faster with height than the temperature of the rising warm air. This causes the warm, moist air to continually be warmer than the atmosphere, and continue rising to large heights. When this happens, we have the basis for a thunderstorm. Thunderstorm formation occurs in three stages - the cumulus stage, the mature stage, and the dissipating stage.
The updraft of humid, warm air into the atmosphere starts the cumulus stage. The air cools as it rises and condenses into one cumulus (small puffy) cloud, or cluster of cumulus clouds. At first, these clouds cannot get very tall because the air surrounding the cloud is very dry, and causes the water droplets to evaporate quick...
Early Thunder by Jean Fritz shows how the contrasting points of view of the Tories and Whigs in Salem had a divisive effect on this New England town, causing neighbors to turn against one another.
Water spouts have happen in the Pacific oceans in Huntington Beach where an intense funnel-shaped cloud vortex happens over a body of water. This vortex is a non-supercell form tornado over water.(water spouts definition). During a water spouts you can see dark clouds over the ocean.
Tornadoes form from wind shears. Wind shears form from warm air that is found at ground level; when it’s raised, the updraft meets a down draft of cooler air that is moved in the opposite direction of the warm air. When both are pushed towards the Earth, this creates wind shear. A spinning tube of air, created from wind shear; tilts upward into a vertical position, as the updraft sucks up moisture from the ground and into the sky. As the warm air cools high in the sky; this produces condensation. The condensation then produces thunderclouds, which rise to 30,000+ feet. The spinning formations of air are then trapped and lifted into the thundercloud. This begins as swirling motion and as continued (if the winds remained viable), a supercell will form. Mesocyclones as they are known are a rotating cloud. If these rotating clouds run into humid air it will spi...

A knight's’ duty is to be loyal to the king, and follow the social code, chivalry. The knight has also fought bravely in the king’s services. He fought for the king and for the christian Land. Knights were usually sent out by the king and the church to go and enforce Christianity in a new land. He was honored in bravery for all the battles he has participated in, Such as, Alexandria when it fell, in “Prussia where he was awarded the seat of honor above all knights.” . And every battle he has fought in he always “killed his foe” This was not frowned upon to the
Homosexuality in the military had been frowned upon back dating since the late 1770’s. Due to fear of reprimand, men and women were able to join the military but did not discuss their sexuality. It was believed that homosexuality was criminalized in U. S. military law. Prior to World War II, there was no written policy barring homosexuals from serving, although sodomy was considered a crime by military law ever since Revolutionary War times (Powers, 2012).
Hurricanes form over the ocean. Easterly waves, what hurricanes develop from, are long, narrow regions of low pressure which occur in ocean winds called trade winds. At first, these easterly waves can grow into something called, a tropical depression. A tropical depression occurs when winds are up to 31 mph. Then tropical depressions can be upgraded into a tropical storm if the winds reach speeds of 74 mph or less. Then finally a the storm can be bumped up into a hurricane if the winds reach 75 mph.
Owens, Mackubin Thomas. “The Case Against Gays in the Military.” Wall Street Journal. 03 Feb 2010: A. 17. SIRS Researcher. Web. 29 Mar 2011.
In September 2011, the United States lifted the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy (DADT), which restricted gay, lesbian, and bisexuals from openly serving in the military. This was the first time in American history in which people of every sexual orientation could serve openly (“11 Facts About,” n.d.). This was a momentous occasion for some and not so much for others. For those military members that had served in secret and those members that were firmly against gays and lesbians, this repeal had different meaning. Both groups contained members that have served in the military for years and were products of the Former President Bill Clinton’s 1993 “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. For many soldiers of this era, communication issues arose due to a pre-existing mentality, learned rules and regulations in services reinforced for two decades and the general cultural within combat related fields.
A tornado occurs in very powerful thunderstorms, and usually it occurs in a super cell. A super cell is a type of storm that already has rotation inside of it, called a mesocycle. A tornado begins to form when a downdraft of air pulls the mesocycle down towards the ground. A funnel begins to form, and when the funnel cloud finally touches down, it officially becomes a tornado. As warm, moist air (the fuel of a tornado) is drawn into the tornado, it matures...
Addiction, also known as substance use disorder, is the dependence on any type of drug, legal or illegal; alcohol and nicotine being two examples. Addiction occurs because “Drugs contain chemicals that tap into the brains communication system and disrupt the way nerve cells normally send, receive, and process information” (Understanding Drug Abuse). This disruption teaches the brain and person to keep repeating the sensation they get when using drugs, causing the individual to develop addiction problems. The sensation occurs from a rise in dopamine levels in the brain; so when an individual consumes alcohol and drugs, their dopamine levels boost. When the addiction develops, the individual’s brain changes, restricting them from making logical decisions, leading to uncontrollable cravings for whatever drug they are
What is Frontal Precipitation? Frontal precipitation occurs along the fronts. It is formed once two air masses of diverse temperature, humidity and density meet such as the meeting of polar air mass and a tropical maritime air mass. A zone called a front separates them. When warm, moist air mass meets a cool and dry air mass and because the molecules of cold air are more tightly packed together making it denser, the warm air is forced to go up and over the cool air mass.
To even be considered for becoming a knight, there were certain requirements that decided their eligibility. A knight’s eligibility was dependent on their noble lineage for they had to be able to trace their history back to knights in their family (the early knights became nobles) (Keen 143). The Rules of the Knights Templar also stated in 1250 that before entering the Order, they had to be knighted, be son or descendant of a knight, and could not serve as a sergeant in the military (Norman 141-142). They also had to be a noble so that they could to be able to pay for expensive and lavish dubbing ceremonies and the rising costs of armor and weapons (Keen 144). If the person met all of the requirements, they started their training to become a knight. Boys were sent to the households of uncles or greater lords to become pages (Gravett 10). As a page, they learned how to serve knights and attend to noble ladies as well as court manners and other good behaviors (Gravett 10). Then at age 14 they were apprenticed by a knight to be his squire (Gravett 10). A squires duties were to look after master's armor and horses, put on his armor, and help their master if he was unhorsed or hurt in battle (Gravett 10). Squires also needed to learn how to carve their meat properly as well as learn how to shoot their bows properly (Gravett 10-11). Not only a squire’s training was used to teach them skill and horsemanship, but was also used to harden them for pain and battle (Norman 151). Their training included fighting and learning how to make money as well (Jones 166). So they practiced with other squires or with their masters, learning how to fight with swords, throwing stones, javelins, bucklers, and quarterstaffs (Gravett 10). Other weapons included lances, maces, axes, and bows (Norman 143). Squires would even sometimes be given weapons two times their weight to develop muscles
Rain forms when water vapor condenses and falls, the more it condenses the more it falls. Some raindrops are not pure and are filled with other materials, this is known as acid rain. Acid rain is a huge problem all over the world. Acid rain is mixture of chemicals, like fossil fuels and the atmosphere, it then comes down as rain, snow, hail, and sleet. The burning of fossil fuels is the main cause of acid rain. When oil and coal are burned they create sulfur dioxide, nitric oxide, and nitrogen dioxide. (" Acid Rain | US EPA") The mixture of all the chemicals and heavy winds blow the compounds across many borders.
Addiction is a psychological condition that comes up when a person takes a drug or engages in an activity, which becomes compulsive and interferes with the ordinary responsibilities in life (Leshner, 1997). The addicts in most instances do not know that their behaviors affect others, and that it is out of control. Addiction is a physical addiction, or the biological state, whereby the body adapts to the presence of a drug to the extent that the body becomes tolerant. Because of the tolerance, there is always a reaction when an individual stops the consumption of the drug. However, the majority of the addictive behaviors is not related to the physical tolerance or exposures to cues. In most of the times, people have a compulsive need to use the drugs as a form of reaction towards emotional or psychological stress that they face. Since addictive behaviors are psychologically based, most of the people tend to switch from one form of drug to another.
