What are three qualities necessary for a positive friendship? That’s a tough question, because there are so many. I sit down and thought about this question for a while before I finally come up with the three I was going to use. I picked loyalty, honest and respectful. The reasons I picked these is, if you have a friend or a so called friend that don’t have these qualities they aren’t a true friend. I have had a friend that don’t meet these qualities and that’s not a true friendship. These are just a few reasons why I picked loyalty, honesty, and respect. First I picked loyalty. Once upon a time, there was a little bunny named Harriet, and she loved nothing more than playing with her best friend Alice. Alice lived across the field from Harriet’s burrow. They spent hours nibbling on clover and wiggling their whiskers. Most of all, they loved playing with Harriet’s Wii. One tragic day, the Wii broke. The next day, Harriet waited and waited for Alice to come over to play. Alice did not come that day, nor the next. Alice never came over to play again. Harriet did not know that Alice had found a new friend, with a Wii that worked. When Harriet found out about Alice’s betrayal of their friendship, she wondered: what is a true friend? In an attempt to ease her pain, Harriet got a big bowl of ice cream, and lost herself in reading the Nicomachean Ethics of Aristotle. There, she discovered that there were actually three different forms of friendship: pleasure, utility and perfection.
“We lie so much/ truth has a false ring and its hard to tell,” (Williams, “Ruby Tells All” 15). This is just one of the many life lessons the speaker of the poem, “Ruby Tells All,” by Miller Williams, learns in her long life. The voice of Ruby in this confessional style poem is a wise one. Ruby shares her philosophy on life with the audience, conveying through her tone that she is resigned about what she has learned. Life is not what she thought it would be. But, Ruby also admits that despite everything unpleasant, there are good parts to life as well. In “Ruby Tells All,” the tone, language, and style give insight into who Ruby is and how she feels about life.
When looking at the three types of friendship that Aristotle says exist it does appear quite clearly as to which one is the best overall. Aristotle says that virtue is what makes a friendship so great, the participants within the friendship bring out the goodness in each other as well as mutual recognition. These components of a virtuous friendship are why it makes it the best kind of friendship there is.
Furthermore, trustworthiness and fairness are the (next two pillars) of character. Being trusted is a big part of character because you have to prove that you are dependable before someone will trust you. My peers trust me because they know I will perform at my highest ability level, whether it is with a sport or in school, that is who I am. Treating people fair and with the same open mind will allow them to trust you. I try to include everyone in class discussion and not just my friends.
There are many types of people in the world and many types of friends. Knowing that, it becomes all the more important to select the right people so that one might have the correct friends, but which types of friends are required? There are ten different types of friends that everybody should have, each fitting into one of three categories: the occasional friends, the benefactors and the greats.
“The silver friend knows your present and the gold friend knows all of your past dirt and glories. Once in a blue moon there is someone who knows it all, someone who knows and accepts you unconditionally, someone who is there for life.” This is a quote I read once in an article by Jill McCorkle. I wrote it down and posted on my wall. McCorkle’s description of a “gold friend” describes a friendship that I have with a group of girls who mean the world to me.
Loyalty can only come from the heart, not from wanting to be a nice person. A loyal friend should support the friendship no matter what (Loyal- Dictionary Definition, 2016). If loyalty is missing other values in the friendship will suffer (cite). Loyalty between two people it is the key characteristic of what holds the friendship together. A good loyal friend pops up in life when everyone else is walking out of it (Doris Ann, 2011). With a loyal friend someone can laugh, weep, never feel bad about exposing yourself, and most definitely is someone worth praying with (Ann, 2011). Friendship with a best friend is just like a four leaf clover, very difficult to find and very lucky to have in life. Good loyal friends are like stars in the sky, they cannot be seen, but they are always there (Ann, 2011). As Doris Ann quotes, “ I asked God for water, he gave me an ocean. I asked God for a flower, he gave me a garden. I asked God for a tree, he gave me a forest. I asked God for a friend and he gave me you. Be loyal to your friends, and as always you must live well to be well” (Ann, 2011). Ann also quotes, “ If all my friends were to jump off a bridge, I wouldn’t dare to follow, I’d be at the bottom to catch them when they fall”. (Ann 2011). One of the most important details in a friendship is to never leave or forsake the other. A friend is also loyal, for example in the movie Lord of the Rings, Froto and Sam Wise had a wonderful fellowship. They lived in peace and in one accord. Also in the movie, gandalf sent froto on a mission. Froto was scared and he didn’t want to go on the journey by himself.

Friendship is a relationship that all the individuals can create by themselves. Though it is not a god gifted relationship like that of the relationship of a mother, father, sister, brother or any of the other family but still it is one of the best relations an individual can possess. People who have true friends consider themselves as the luckiest individuals on earth.
Friendships are one of the most important things you can get out of life. It’s something that everyone has to have because without it we would all go insane. Just think if no one talked to each other and we never made friends, this world would be a ticking time bomb. Studies say human need friendships and love to survive. So friendship is a big part of your life.
A good friend may not have all these traits. If someone is a gossip, you shouldn't get too close with him or her. If they are known for betrayal and being dishonest you should think about it and probably take one step away from them. According to the site “Being Friends,” friends should listen to each other, not put each other down to hurt one another, understand each others feelings, disagree without hurting each other, and be dependable and trustworthy. When finding friends you should look out for the good and the bad. See which traits are most important to you and make sure your friends have more good than bad traits. This will create compatible friends for you who hopefully remain with you for a lifetime!
Life teaches us a lot of things. But none is a better teacher than friendship (Importance of Friendship). There is one person who knows who I really am and that is my best friend, Danny. Friendship is a special love. Finding a true friend is always hard. So when one is found, it is important to hang on tight. The greatest gift of life is friendship, and I have received it. Growing up, I was the girl that was confident, strong, and had all the answers. No one had fully ever understood me or my actions, I was constantly on the move, keeping myself busy with any task or activity I could get my hands on, and I never told anyone the entire truth to why that was. My appearance to always seeming assured, formidable and dependable could be imputed to one prevailing time period, but was separated into hundreds of different memories of my past, each with their cause and effect. However, it started with one substantial hit, afflicting me in my teenage years.
