The three passions that have dictated the direction of my life have been sports, friends and family. My first passion, sports, has guided me through temptations such as drugs and dropping out of school and has kept me on the right track. My second passion, much the same as my first has helped to deflect the many temptations of life. It is my friends who have stuck with me through the ups and downs and it is to them that I owe much of what I am today. My third and strongest passion is my family, and more specifically my father. He brought me up as a single father when my mother wanted nothing to do with me; he fought to give me what he could and it is to him that I owe everything. Sports, my first passion, has been instrumental i...
The Aqedah as narrated in Genesis serves as a prefigurement to the Passion of Jesus Christ. There are great typological similarities in these two narratives, but in the Gospel we find the reality of truth, Jesus, who is the completion and fulfillment of the type modeled by Abraham in the Aqedah.
In both sports and academics, coaches and teachers commend me for my relentless effort and drive. However, I carry this effort in everything that I do. I have picked up many skills and talents through high school that may seem miniscule to others, but they required dedication and practice. I have taught myself to play the piano, and I also have learned origami and skateboarding. I even taught myself to juggle, and practiced enough until I was good enough to give lessons to others. Most would consider these hobbies, but I consider them passions. When I put my mind to goals or tasks, I strive to be the best. For example, when I began skateboarding, I had trouble learning how to kickflip. However, I practiced for hours alone in the garage, repeatedly listening to the loud crash of the skateboard hitting the concrete floor. I even rolled my ankle on two separate occasions, but these setbacks did not hold me down. I kept trying, until after a month, I finally landed a kickflip. I bring this persistence to whatever I put my mind to, and I know that I can use my drive to learn and succeed in engineering at the University of
Sports play a very important role in my life ever since I could walk. My interests in playing sports began at the age of three as my parents signed me up for soccer, flag football, basketball, and lacrosse. First grade started my competitive edge as I began to play for travel teams in various sport tournaments. This competitive edge transferred from the sports field to the classroom having teachers and coaches helping me be the best I can be. Sports have continually well-shaped and defined my character by teaching me how to accept a win from working hard, also how a loss is an opportunity to learn and fix mistakes.
Inconstant Passion With Consequences Extreme passion results in irrational actions with horrifying consequences. The indecisive and fervent whims regarding love and the human heart are often selfish and fickle. For the victims of love, destruction is often inevitable. In William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, unrequited love forces both Romeo and Juliet to commit suicide, as neither one believes it is possible to continue life without the other. Both, through mere days of desperation, elation, deception, and grief, were ultimately cheated out of their lives by their love.
A hobby I've held onto and cherished for a very long time was playing baseball. The sport was introduced to me by my father through the movie The Sandlot. The sport ended up holding a more significant meaning to me after I learned that both my Father and Grandfather played in their high school years. For me, Baseball laid down the foundation for my future and has been a positive force in my development since I was young.
Pulitzer prize finalist Sarah Ruhl is well known for her unique writing style and magical approach to realism. Through the use of extraordinary imagery and poetic language, Ruhl puts a modern spin on the traditional styles of language found in most plays. Passion Play is one of her most epic works, spanning from Elizabethan England to present day in a length of over three hours. In each of the three acts, Ruhl uses theological symbolism to connect the play with the Bible and its apocalyptic themes. With fish puppets coming onstage and the sky changing colors on numerous occasions, one might argue that her frequent use of imagery driven symbolism can be disruptive to the plot and overall meaning of the play. However, I argue that Ruhl’s use
According to dictionary.com, “any powerful or compelling emotion or feeling” constitutes something as a passion. Passions can be either positive or negative. In my life, my passions influence my actions and my goals for the future. My goals have been a part of my life since I can remember and there are certain personality traits and motivators of mine that push me to accomplish these goals. My passions have originated from events I have gone through and realizations that I have come to. These huge motivators in my life include my desire for happiness, my determination to succeed, and my desire to help others.
There are many things that have molded me into the person I am today such as being born into a family with four children. With three siblings, I have been forced to be able to work out problems from stealing each other’s toys to having to rush to the emergency room to get stiches because my brother chased me around the house and I tripped. My mother, father, brother, and two sisters were all born in Pennsylvania and I am the odd ball and I was born in Adrian, Michigan. From when I was a child I always loved being involved with sports because of my competitive nature. I grew up playing soccer and having success with that but then my love changed and I began playing lacrosse and football. I started playing lacrosse in middle school and played
America’s thirty-second President and conqueror of the Great Depression, Franklin D. Roosevelt, quoted, “Self-interest is the enemy of all true affection” (Roosevelt). When an individual makes decisions that involve the love and feelings of another person, it is important to refrain from taking for granted their affection just for one’s own personal benefits and interests. Scarlet Song tells the story of two young lovers who find true love for one another despite their religious and cultural differences, and fail to remain committed to maintaining their marriage. Ousmane Gueye, a Muslim from Senegal, and Mireille De La Valle, a white daughter of a French Diplomat, engage in an interracial marriage in which neither Ousmane’s nor Mireille’s parents approve. Once Mireille makes considerably large sacrifices to enter a foreign life, Ousmane begins to devalue their relationship and balance the marriage around only his needs and desires.
”A passion gives you a reason to keep learning and to work toward mastery. It can often give you a reason to travel, and therefore to have the new experiences so key to happiness. It gives you something in common with other people, and so fosters social bonds. It gives you purpose. It often has a satisfying physical aspect-rock-climbing, fly-fishing, and knitting. It gives meaningful structure to your time. It makes the world a richer place. When you're in pain, it can be a refuge, a distraction, a solace.”
My strongest qualities, determination and independence, are deeply rooted in my family. Coming from an extremely tight-knit family all living within 30 minutes of each other, we bring new meaning to the cliché, “It takes a village.” My Aunt Betty is CEO of two corporations and taught me to sacrifice nothing for my dreams. My Grandmother, having borne seven children of her own and cared for twenty-one grandchildren while working with her husband in the family business, taught me that I do not have to sacrifice one for the other- prosperity comes in the balance. My strength comes from my mother. Having overcome obstacles and making immeasurable sacrifices, she lives her dreams through her three daughters. She never accepts anything from the best from me and I do my best not to disappoint her. She instilled in me the strength to have MY OWN dreams and to never be afraid of them. Individuality emanates from my Aunt Kathy, as she has always encouraged me to break the conventional molds of femininity and go after what I desire.
Passion for Family, Community, Business, Technology and Intellectual growth are what motivate me on the daily basis. These are vital parts that have contributed to framing me into the person I’ve become. They have also shaped my short-term and long-term goals in life. It’s critical for one to have a vision for their life and what they anticipate to accomplish. Without a vision or desire there is no hope for one to continue and to purse anything. My experiences with in my passions have helped me aligned my vision for my life. They have given me the valuable knowledge that have set me up for success to get to this point in life.
My interests are gauged by how much time I spend in each of them. I spend time on my personal relationship with Christ (greatest interest), computing, writing, performing trumpet, and cycling, in order.
The more personal and deeper explanation, of who I was, I put in my room as objects. There are three objects: Talent, Passion, and Love. Each one gives the reader a little more insight to who I am. They reveal my likes, goals, and purpose in life. The first object, Talent, tells the reader what my likes are and what I do for entertainment. The next object I included was Passion. This is where the reader finds out the most about me. The name Passion stresses the importance of what is contained in the object. These things are at the heart of what drives me and makes me who I am.
One of my passions is basketball. Basketball is my main passion because when I grow up my goal is to become a professional WNBA player. My other passion is reading. I love reading, anytime I have a chance I always read my favorite genre of books to read is Non-Fictional.
