The three major levels of law enforcement are state, federal, and local. Each agency has its own purpose of enforcement in the United States of America. The federal government has a large range of agencies. They all maintain public order and law that are related to the whole entrie country. There are many different departments under the federal government; the best known one being the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). State government has agencies that deal with the state itself. The main agency is the state police which deals with investigations and patrol. Local government is associated with the county or region of a state. Some examples are the sheriff's office and probation. We have so many agencies so crime can be more under control
and they can work together to help protect our country, our states, and our communities. The monetary influence from programs administered by the Executive Branch with such programs as COPS, helps bring new technologies to local police agencies, thus impacting policing. Moreover, the federal law enforcement’s creation of new crime fighting technologies, eventually make their way into the state and local police departments. This supports the idea that both the Legislative and Executive Branches influence law enforcement; however, the Executive Branch provides a more direct and active influence.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation, also know as the FBI is an interesting topic. The FBI is the “principal investigative arm of the United States Department of Justice”, also known as DOJ. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is responsible in collecting facts and giving or writing reports that one has either perceived, investigated or observed. As well as, assembling evidence in cases that involve Federal jurisdiction and assembling evidence. Not to mention, it bestows law enforcement leadership and reinforcement to international and state law enforcement agencies, which enforce the law.

For the state, governors have the authority to issue executive orders. This means that they can veto the legislation they enforce state laws instead of national laws. And finally there is the federal government which is the central and highest level of government in the U.S. It is divided into three branches and each branch has its own rights and power to check and balance the powers of each branch. The federal government has the power to regulate taxes, establish federal welfare programs and make laws in the interest of the nation as a whole. There are also limitations set to the federal government’s authority, as they cannot ask local law enforcements agencies to do minor administrative jobs. In The Third Policeman by Brian O'Nolan, Old Man Mathers' house serves as a portal to the unnamed protagonist story. In the beginning of the novel, the protagonist and his cohort John Divney conspire to steal money from the elderly man. Their plan culminates in the old man's death, and John Divney allegedly taking the money contained within a black box from Mathers' house. After continually pestering John Divney about the money, the protagonist is told that the money was buried underneath the floorboards of the deceased man's house. The protagonist goes back to Mathers' home, and, while looking for the money, accidentally sets of a landmine inside the house, killing him, and sending him to the afterlife.
