Do you have a hero that you look up to? The way dictionary.com defines a hero as “a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding behavior, and noble qualities”. A hero is not a person that is a menace to the people or person he or she is a hero to, and does not sit around being lazy, doing nothing with his or her life. There are three characteristics that I would use to analyze and define a hero; leadership, passion, and sage. First off, a hero will have good leadership. Leadership is defined by, “leading a person or a group of persons to do something”, according to Dictionary.com. Firstly, an example of a good leader would be Tom Burroughs. He is a Democrat in the Kansas State Legislature and he is the minority leader. A …show more content…
In Kansas the Democrats are the minority and the Republicans hold the majority. For example, Tom Burroughs is a good leader in the interest that he knows he does not completely fall on party lines and he does not try to hide it. Therefore, he has integrity, which makes a leader more effective and trustworthy, which in turn can get more accomplished. Secondly, another good example of a leader is Tim Cook. He is the C.E.O. at Apple, and he induces many people to buy Apple products. This kind of leader can be a good thing or a bad thing, but either way he is a leader by causing people to do something and he is a hero to Apple by making them lots of money. Therefore, while he might cause many people to buy something they do not need he is still a hero for Apple. Thirdly, Taylor Swift is a leader, and she is a good example of a leader because she pretty much …show more content…
Leadership is important because how many people it affects, and passion is important for driving us to fight for what we believe and for causing us to e heroes to someone, and then lastly sage is important so heroes know how to handle certain situations. Would you not want someone as a hero that had all of these
Every generation has its own heroes that display, what they believe to be, ideal characteristics. While each is different in their own way, many of these role models share similar qualities. Most tend to have courage, strength, compassion, or another respected trait, but this is not necessarily why they win the adoration of their followers.
What is a hero? Merriam Webster defines a hero as being a man admired for his achievements and noble qualities. What are those noble qualities? They are bravery, selflessness, and strength. Two heroes, Beowulf and Sir Gawain, exemplify these traits while the "hero" Arcita fails to do so.
A hero is somebody who commits an act of remarkably bravery or who has shown an admirable quality such as great courage or strength of character. (Encarta, 2009) Joseph Campbell has come up with eight of his own characteristics of a hero. Joseph Campbell is known as a scholar of mythology. There are several people in our times that are considered a hero. Whether, these heroes are fictional or nonfiction, they all portray some kind of heroic abilities.
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary a hero is an individual who is admired for great bravery or fine qualities. To me a hero is so much more than a person who shows great bravery. When I think of a hero many fine qualities come to mind; intelligence, courage, altruism, compassion and great bravery.
Everyone wants to believe in a hero. Even someone who’s considered a hero has their own image of what a true protector should be. Truth is, there’s no such thing as a universal hero. Perspective changes everything, especially when discussing the characteristics a title must always have. A hero is someone who expects nothing in return, someone who can be normal or extraordinary but looked up to, and who has to sacrifice something to accomplish their goal.
A man who spent 20 years trying to get home. A father who took his own life for his family. A woman who risked her life to free strangers. True heroes give anything they can for the sake of other, something as small as a helping hand, or something as big as losing their own life. Heroes aren't bullies, they won't push you down just for their entertainment, they will pull you up back onto your feet. There are many types of heroes we all consider, Odysseus and Harriet Tubman are obvious while Rumpelstiltskin isn't as clear to see. Most of the time, heroes are not the stereotypical ones found in stories; real traits that define a hero are love towards one another, selflessness for others, and a strong devotion for what they believe in.
hero is what Jean Louise Finch is and if others can not see that they
There are many different perspectives of what a hero is but one opinion that most people would agree on is that a hero is someone who selfless and would sacrifice their own feelings for others. In The Odyssey, the main character Odysseus does not present the qualities of a hero but instead shows how one might lack true heroism. The character traits of being self-centered and unfaithful describe Odysseus as non-heroic. Odysseus must leave home to defend his people in the war for 10 years, but isn’t able to get home until another 10 years later. Throughout his journey, Odysseus selects lousy decisions that ends up making him unheroic such as being unreliable, unsympathetic of someone else’s emotions, and barbaric. This clearly shows that Odysseus is not hero material considering the fact that he is untrustworthy and manipulative.
Some definitions of heroes are people, who have noble qualities, and put the lives of others before their own life. They are expected to be reasonable and calm, during scary times, like when a shooting is going on, looking out for
Those characteristic traits are what I think makes a hero. We come in contact with heroes everyday. We may not know they’re heroes but whether we know or not doesn’t matter as long as the person they protected believes they are a hero. Just like the people serving our country...heroes, they are pure, true heroes. They have the courage to serve, they have the integrity to serve for America’s morals, they have the fidelity to keep their promises made to this country, and they have the determination to stand and fight for the United States of America. To me those qualities make a
According to google.com a hero is someone who “is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievments, or noble equalities.” (google.com). For example, superman , superman is an all time american classic modern hero who is admired for his courage and for saving earth multiple times from super villains. Another example of a hero is Beowulf. Beowulf was created around 1000 AD and was known far and wide throughout the lands for his selflessness, bravery, and courage .
To the world today, a hero is someone distinguished by exceptional courage, nobility, or strength; but really, anyone can be a hero. A hero can vary from someone as well-known as George Washington to someone as unheard of as anyone’s very own mother. Someone who has done a good deed for someone else is hero. The biggest heroes are the ones in well-known books and plays, such as Odysseus from The Odyssey, or have made a huge difference in the history of this world, like Mahatma Gandhi. Siddhartha Gautama is a hero, but not in the same way Odysseus or Gandhi are. Although these three influential people went through different journeys in order to accomplish different things, they are all heroes in their own way and have been through the same cycle of the road of trials and crisis/salvation.
What is a hero? That is the question that has many different answers depending on who you ask. There are some pretty popular answers to that question. One of those answers is; “A hero is someone who helps other people, or helps to make other people's lives better.” Another is; “A hero is a person who tries to make the world a better place.” or “A hero is a person who does something that is more than what is expected.” Still others are “A hero is someone that doesn't do something for his or her own problems but for the benefit of others” and “A hero is a person that doesn't want to be a hero just to be famous.” Those were just some statements about what people think a hero is, but what about the qualities a hero should have?
When I think of a hero I immediately think of someone who is strong, intelligent, handsome, and daring. Upon closer examination, many different qualities than these become apparent. Courage, honesty, bravery, selflessness, and the will to try are just a few of the overlooked qualities of a hero. The definition of heroism changes with the context and time. Heroes of the past are not necessarily heroes of present time and vise versa.
Throughout literature, the personification of the hero has adopted a number of different meanings. Originally represented as being an individual who wasn’t bound by limitations, Heroes demonstrated the ideal ways in which a person should live or strive to become. Later on, contrasting adaptations of the hero started to form. The once “larger than life” portrayal of the hero is now beginning to deteriorate, as they began to possess lacking physical, mental, and sometimes moralistic traits that would once make them stand out from the collective whole. But on a different note, when a comparison is drawn between two acclaimed heroes in literature during contrasting time periods, such as Beowulf and Hamlet, one can notice the changes that occur throughout time. Although every hero holds relatively consistent attributes that contributes to their outstanding character, there were many distinctions between Beowulf’s and Hamlet’s character, which serves as markers for advancement in the hero’s character.
