Thor: Ragnarok (2017) The movie I chose is Thor: Ragnarok; I am a big marvel fan and especially a huge fan of Thor. I’ve been familiar with Thor since 2011; I have watched all the marvel films to date. It actually wasn’t until I took this class to learn that Thor is part of Norse mythology. Once we started reading the Norse mythology chapter, everything started to sink in and fall into place. When I started watching the films, I knew that they were part of mythology; I just didn’t know what certain type of mythology. I didn’t really prepare for this film, I was just excited it came out and couldn’t wait to see it. Ragnarok means the final destruction of the world in the conflict between the Aesir and the powers of Hel led by Loki. In the end of the movie you can see just how much destruction is left on Asgard. The way the movie portrays it is different. The definition says led by Loki, but in the movie Loki is who summons Ragnarok to save the others and kill Hera. Hera is the sister of Thor and Loki, she is also known as the goddess of death. The movies of Thor are almost completely different than the actual myths. One example going back to the first movie, Thor sneaks away to battle the smite giants. Against the wishes of Odin, but in the myths that is what he does. Thor is the protector, and battles giants and other people …show more content…
When she would transform the horns on her head you can tell she was evil. Also the way she goes into Asgard and just starts taking control and killing people. It just shows true power, and very strong. She wore a dark green costume with a lot of black in it. I still don’t know why it was green, because for me green represents nature, earth, and peacefulness. All the opposite things that Hela represents, if anything I would have made her costume either all black, or like black and red. Red would represent the anger and fire she had in the
The representations of Thor has definitely changed over the past years because of the way people have thought and imagined about the “Thor scenes” in the Greek mythology to create a movie or cartoon for readers. Some representations have been kept and some have been varied, such as the outfit, powers and friends. During the years of people have created multiple movies of the same concept and have added more characters or changed some bits. In the extract of Snorra Edda it reveals that Thor wants to prove that he is powerful and worthy, he comes with the giant Hymer to find his own bait but ends up being arrogant and aggressive because the Midgard Serpant had made him angry. He cannot control his anger and slashes out. Meanwhile as, in the film
She made some of these dresses a crimson color, (which was a color close to scarlet). She did this to remind herself of her sin. Most people, if put into a situation similar to Hester's, would let their life deteriorate. Hester, having pulled her life together was the strongest character, (mentally), in this book. Her life was anything but a waste.
During the separation, Thor is about to be pronounced king and their rivals, the Frost Giants showed up. Thor lives on a planet called Asgard, the Asgardians stole a capsule, the tesseract containing the Frost Giants powers. Thor

nowadays when you see vikings in movies or in book the main thing you notice is there weapons and there armour. the vikings are a well known group of people today and the reason is because of the armour they wore and the weapons they use Vikings won wars do to the fact that they had better armour and weapons then the opposing side and they became known be winning wars. The viking armour and weapons were way beyond other groups which made it easier for them to win wars. If the Vikings wore not to have the armour or weapons they have they would not be known today because they would not have been able to win wars and that is why they are known now and back then.in general if you cant not win wars and take over peoples

This scene clearly shows us that she wants to be evil, but also, that she isn’t fully there yet. However, it mainly proves to us that underneath her confidence and assurance is a person, craving to become cruel. Scared of what she is going to do, about the guilt she doesn’t want to feel and mostly, about not being able to deal with it. She asks the devil to not let “heaven peep through the blanket of the dark”. This indicates us that she knows ...
True to the namesake of the film, Thor is the protagonist. The biggest change Thor faces in this film is that he now a clean-shaven blonde instead of a bearded red-head. Aside from physical appearances, Thor’s personality as a god is similar to the Thor in Norse mythology. As exemplified in the Lay of Thrym, Thor travels to Jotunheim with Loki and several other gods, although this time he is not dressed as a woman and he carries Mjolnir with him. In the film, Loki appears to act as a voice of reason by attempting to deescalate Thor’s impending anger towards the Giants recent trespassing into Asgard. Despite there being a supposed truce between Laufey, leader of the Giants, and Odin, Thor does not condone the Giant’s actions and wishes to wage war. This parallels Loki’s sentiments at the end of Lokasenna where he states, “I will go outside for you alone, because I know that you will fight [or kill]” (Acker 180), demonstrating Thor’s impulsiveness and perceived violent
...lly, Ragnarok, or the end of the world, is the biggest difference between Norse mythology and most all mythologies including Greek. Ragnarok is the essential “end of the world” although no actual destruction of the world comes to pass during it. Ragnarok is a very detailed battle where all the warriors from Valhalla fight with Odin and the rest of the Aesir against the Jotnar and Loki (the god of trickery). This cannot be compared to anything in Greek mythology Because Greek Mythology doesn’t have an equeivalent to Ragnarok or anything close.
... of light, and was to be chained to a rock in the world underneath a giant serpent who continually drips venom that causes Loki to writhe in agony but when Ragnarok arrives, Loki will be set free to wreak havoc on the world once more (McMahon).
Mythology was used by the ancient worlds to tell their civilizations past and explain the unexplainable. The highly known and studied mythologies include Greek, Roman and Egyptian. However, there is another mythology that is lesser known in terms of popularity, Norse mythology, it is known to date back just as far and even farther in some cases than the more popular mythologies. Even though it is not widely known about, it still contains a vast and detailed history.
At Ragnarok Loki compiled an army of giants and his offspring to destroy Asgard. He was successful in destroying Asgard but he was killed by Heimdall in the process (McCoy). It was the goal of Loki to plunge the universe back into chaos and at Ragnarok, he was
