Inventor, light bulb, and creative are three words people often think of in connection with Thomas Edison. Many people think of Thomas Edison as the creator of the light bulb, but he did much more than create the light bulb. Thomas Edison changed the world by being a creative and meaningful inventor. He showed America that he could do the challenging through time and that if you persevere you can reach your goal. He left a legacy as creating electric light for homes and as America’s electrician. The early life of Thomas Edison was a little rough. Edison was born on February 11, 1847 in Milan, Ohio (Dolan 15). He is best known for creating the light bulb. Edison manufactured light bulbs and other components for electric light (Parker 43). Another one of Edison’s greatest achievements that he is remembered for is the Pearl Street Generating Station. The station produced 110 volts of electricity to 59 customers (Bio.com). When Edison was alive he was invited to the White House by President Hoover (Dolan 108). Edison was too ill to attend (Dolan 108). On May 21, 1928 Edison was awarded a Congressional gold medal (National Park Service). On the night of Edison’s funeral, for one minute all but essential lights were dimmed (Markham 17). When Edison died he was one of the most well-known and respected Americans in the world (Bio.com). Edison is credited with helping build America’s economy during vulnerable years (Bio.com). Edison’s legacy still lives on to this day. Thomas Edison truly left America as America’s electrician and the creator of electric light. He showed America that he could be strong through time and you can persevere to achieve your goals. He is a hero of change because he gave ideas to the world through his inventions and achievements.Perhaps if more people were like Thomas Edison the world would be more advanced than it is today.
