The topic I chose is Team Foxcatcher, Foxcatcher was a team of wrestlers put together by a man by the name of John du Pont for the 1988 Olympics. John du Pont was a multimillionaire that liked the sport of wrestling but was never any good at it but, he did have a lot of money which allowed him to put together a team of great wrestlers from all over the U.S.. One of these wrestlers being Mark Schultz a great wrestler that unfortunately lived in the shadow of his brother Dave Schultz, Dave and Mark Schultz were both Olympic gold medalists but Dave got more attention from the media. The fact that Mark lived in Dave's shadow made him jump at duPont's offer to join his team at his 880 acre estate where he was going to build a 14,000sq ft training center for the team. In the beginning things seemed to go fine they had a nice facility, they were getting paid very well, and they were pretty good. None of the wrestlers suspected anything of duPont at first, nor did they care as long as they were living in luxury and getting paid as well as they were. DuPont treated the team very well and gave them what they asked for, although the guy was kind of a goofball the team listened to duPont and sort …show more content…
of respected him as their coach although he never taught them anything since he knew nothing about wrestling. DuPont also supplied clothing, a place to sleep, and food for the wrestlers on the team but the problem was that those weren't the only things he supplied the wrestlers with. A lot happened when they were on Team Foxcatcher and by that I mean a lot of drug usage which started to deteriorate Marks and the others mental health. Due to all the drug use amongst all the wrestlers they began to become very frustrated and angry causing them to lose matches due to their temper getting out of hand. Mark was one who suffered from these mood swings causing him to lose matches he never should have lost with his type of skill. Once Dave began to notice his brothers mental health quickly deteriorating he talked his brother into quitting the team but, it wasn't going to be that easy since duPont had serious mental issues. Therefor Dave offered to take his brothers spot on the team putting him in a dangerous situation. Once on the team he began to notice that duPont was a little off in the head which began to worry him but, he put it off since he got his brother out. He began to get the team back on track and they began to listen to him more then duPont. Once duPont began to notice this it began to push him over the edge making him more unstable than he already was but he didn't snap yet. Dave still defended duPont showing him compasion urging understanding for the millionaires wild behavior. DuPont craved for the attention in the wrestling world, duPont poured in $3 million in the wrestling world he flew wrestlers to tournament in his Learjet. It wasn't until duPont's mother died that his mental health began to get super unstable making him delusional. His butler reported him saying he seen Disney characters in the fields outside the window along with trees uprooting themselves and walking around the estate. Once these delusions started to happen he thought he was being watched by the government, he began carrying around loaded weapons and even firing them on in the gymnasium during practice, he also injured a road maintenance worker in a hit-and- run incident, at one point it was reported that he shot a nest of geese because he thought they were casting spells on him. The team stated that the smell of alcohol and and evidence of cocaine and pill use caused him to think irrationally and aggressively. He even started removing everything on the farm that was black because he associated black with death, such as black gym equipment and one of the coaches was told he could no longer drive his black SUV. He would also carry a gun with him while at the dinner table while eating and would often fire it off. Often times he would confront the wrestlers because he thought they were f***ing with him while holding them at gunpoint saying he wanted them off the farm, one of these wrestlers being Chaid a member of the team for 9 years. The problem occured on January 26, 1996 duPonts security assistant Patrick Goodale drove to the mansion for a 2pm meeting, duPont then asked him the tour the estate with him to asses the damages done from recent winter storms and he took along his long barrel .44 magnum revolver.
They ended up a Dave Schultz house, where Dave was tinkering with his radio in his Toyota Tercel, he then stopped turned to his boss with a smile then duPont pulled his gun pointed in Goodales face before pointing it at dave and pulled the trigger. “ I said John what are you doing?” Goodale testified at the trial “David screamed after the first shot then fell.” Goodale then leapt from the car with his weapon and pointed it a duPont once their barrels met John threw his gun on the seat then backed the car
up. Just inside Dave's wife Nancy( of 14 Years) had been clearing dishes from the table after a family lunch when she heard her husband scream. She would later have to break the news of their father's death to her son Alexander 9, and her daughter Danielle 6. DuPont fled to his mansion, reloaded his gun and locked himself inside, outside 70 police officers and SWAT team members laid siege for two days. The finally caught him when they turned of his heat to his house driving him out, during a five week trial psychiatric experts concluded that duPont was a paranoid schizophrenic that though Schultz had a plot to kill him. He was found guilty for 3rd degree murder and mentally ill and sentenced to 13.5 to 30 years. Dupont wanted people to credit him for creating champions but, in the end he ended up destroying one of the best wrestlers of his time. In all Dave left a legacy no other wrestler can follow he was a very aggressive talented wrestler with a flow that was wicked crazy. To this day they still hold a memorial tournament in honor of Dave every year of his death. Dave and his brother were both really great wrestlers, Mark however lived in Dave's shadow, dave was just someone that when he wrestled everyone watched even when he spoke everyone listened. John du Pont struck sadness into the hearts of everyone who knew dave weather it was personally or through wrestling, his memory and his style of wrestling will never be forgotten. A great wrestler, father, husband, and friend was lost on January 26, 1996. No wrestler will compare to the type of skill, flow, and sheer determination of the great Dave Schultz may he rest in peace.

A main part of this story is about picking the Olympic team and how they became as strong as they were. Before beginning the tryouts, coach Herb Brooks scouted every player that was trying out. He watched film on them, talked to old coaches, and in some cases watched them play in a game or practice. It is important that he did this because then he did not come in to the tryouts not knowing any player and it showed that he already had in mind who he wanted for his team. As tryouts approached all the players and coaches were preparing for a week long tryout. Herb Brooks sat by himself in a booth and watched the first day of tryouts and picked his team on the very first day. This stunned all the othe...
Once in town, he headed directly to the Sheriff?s Office. When he got there he told the sheriff what happened, then they both, Ben and Madec went to the doctor. When they were in the doctor?s office, the doctor examined them both. When Ben went back to the sheriff?s, Madec went to the hospital, the sheriff arrested Ben. Ben told the truth about what happened, but they couldn?t understand what Madec did. They believed what Madec had said. When the trial came along, things were looking badly for Ben. Until the doctor stepped out. The doctor had found Ben?s slingshot, and said that he examined the dead guy, and found that the .358 bullet killed him. Ben was no longer arrested. They took him back to the sheriff?s office, where Ben didn?t report a crime of murder or aggravated assault, he reported an accident.
For my Project Learning Summary I chose to focus on two people and one movement that I believe have a strong impact on society today. Each of the topics has had an influence during their respective eras, and each proved that their work has gone onto make changes in the world as we see it today. I first looked at Darwin, for his work on natural selection and the significance it has had on science and religion. I then took another look at Booker T. Washington, and how his stance on integration of African Americans into a “white” society was at the end of slavery and what his efforts have done since. Lastly, I looked at the Feminist Movement and the efforts that were taken for improving equality as a whole in society.
On Friday April 24th J.P. Walker, Preacher Lee, Crip Reyer and L.C. Davis got into Reyer’s Oldsmobile and they took off on a mission to kill Mark Charles Parker. (3 other cars of men followed) They went to the courthouse/jail in Poplarville and they could not get in. So they went to Jewel Alford’s House (The jail keeper) to get the keys to the Jail. Alford went with the four men to the courthouse. When he got there he went in and down the hall to Sheriff Moody’s office and got the keys to the jail. He opened the door to the jail and Lee, Reyer, Davis, Walker followed Alford into the jail. Alford then opened Parkers cell and Lee and Davis pulled Parker out of the jail and courthouse to the Reyer's Oldsmobile. Alford then left and the men got into the car.

When the first responder got to the scene he adimatately meet the 911 caller, who lead him to a car in an apartment parking lot. The car doors were closed and all of the windows were fogged. The police officer used his flashlight to see inside of the car before opening the door. He found a young African American woman who had been shot several times. The officers quickly called for backup, investigators and medical personnel. While awaiting for their arrival he secured the crime scene with caution tape, creating an initial perimeter setup as discussed in lecture two. Once everyone arrived he left it to them to search the car while he talked to the 911 caller, witnesses and others who had information on who had been present in the car. The investigators were able to collect physical evidence of bullets and cartage casings that were found outside the vehicle and inside the vehicle on the floorboard of the driver’s side. The team determined the bullets came from a 40 caliber. At 12:30 P.M., JFK's convertible drove past the Texas Bookstore Depository and onto Elm Street, where to the right was the grassy knoll. In that same spot, the grassy knoll, Abraham Zapruder had his 8mm camera, recording an event that would drastically change history (Fertzer 65-72). The first shot missed the convertible completely. The second shot hit the President in the upper right back and exited through his neck, continuing on to Governor Connelly's back, through his chest, and hitting his wrist upon exiting. The third shot struck JFK in the head killing him instantly. At 1:50 P.M. Lee Harvey Oswald was taken into custody after resisting arrest and killing officer J.D. Tippit (North 2...
Throughout the semester we touched on several topics, but one topic that stood out for was immigration. We watched and discussed movies like “Sin Nombre” and “El Norte” which depicted the process of migrating and the risk factors associated with it. On a personally I more interested in it because been an immigrant myself I can relate to Sayra in “Sin Nombre” and Pedro and his sister in “El Norte” to some extent.
Witnesses who were at the party shared that Jones was very drunk before he grabbed a gun from his room and opened fire. According to people who were at the party, several guests had attempted to get Jones to stop drinking and go to sleep, something
I chose the topic of transgenderism. Transgender is when an individual tries to switch genders. Transgender comes from the Latin words trans, meaning “across.” Transgender literally means “across gender.” Many trans-individuals decided later on in their lives that they want to switch genders, and other people argue that they were born the wrong gender. Trans-people experience many difficulties throughout their lives. Switching genders makes their lives more challenging, because of many reasons. Their lives are more challenging because of their religion, whether or not they are accepted. The military is very strict, and will not accept trans individuals whatsoever. Insurance companies sometimes will not accept them as well. Trans people are not always accepted by certain occupations. Growing up in schools, trans people are all treated differently regarding to which bathroom/locker room to use. There is a huge debate whether or not trans students are even allowed to participate on sports teams, and if they are, which team to be on. Other obstacles such as birth certificates, passports, and driver’s licenses are all major issues as well. Trans people have to decide if they are willing to come forward, and say ‘This is who I am.’ But before trans-people can come out to other, they must come out to
The school's undercover narcotics officer, Randy, was killed in the faculty parking lot. A car pulled up, and a black tinted window rolled down. The passenger in the back seat shot him once in the head with a handgun, then the car sped away. Randy was killed instantly, and the people in the car were never caught.
There are two witnesses of the crime. At the junction of the robbery Mavis came to the post office to send a parcel, once she has seen the crime she fainted and collapsed in the doorway. Charlie after seen Mavis made the second shoot in the crime scene to the window. When Bert was trying to drag Mavis aside he cuts his hand on some of the glass on the floor. Johne saw the incident and tried to stop them and Ali hit John on the head with the butt of the gun and fired in his leg.
The topic that I choose is mental health education for teenagers in school. Mental health is a person’s condition with regard to their psychological and emotional well-being. In schools we have classes focusing upon the physical and educational well-being of students but has ignored the mental well-being. The lack of mental health education results in people not knowing how to properly interact with mental illness both in others and with themselves. Not only is the knowledge of how to deal with mental illness an issue but the stigmatization that has derived from the lack of understanding creates a negative environment in confronting these illnesses.
