People always have a fear of something, whether big or small. These fears can follow and stay with someone for the rest of their lives. In the story “The Man in the Black Suit,” Stephen King uses many different types of symbolism and other types of word choice that gives the story the spooky theme that describes the event that took place with the child. In the first paragraph, Stephen King begins the story with the main character as an old man describing the horrific event that occurred to him at the age of nine. With this it shows that even at his old age, this horrific event that occurred to him many years ago, it still haunts him. Using very strong adjectives, to give the man a more dark appearance. Soon, the boy after trading small talk with the mysterious man in the black suit, he decides to run, toward the split in the river where his father advised him to stay away from. He soon began to run, and run until found to see that his mother has died. Soon frightened he runs even more to find his dad and runs to him quickly. With this, Stephen King with his main theme which is fear finds the way to add other themes into the overall theme of fear, and survival. Making up lies, was what the boy did when he encountered his father. With that, the boy questions if he got lucky when it came to escaping the man in the black suit. This gives a mystery type theme to the story, which questions certain readers. In the story The Man in the Black Suit, a young boy encounters two things that can be symbolized by death as, they were both out to get to boy. In the end, the bee was exterminated but the mysterious man, who lost the young boy haunted the boy until the man becomes old. Stephen King uses many types of items that show symbolism inside of the short story. In the end, the story gives the readers something to think about after reading this
