The Ransom of Red Chief is about two criminals who kidnap a child for a ransom. Instead of working for a living, the two thieves are notorious for stealing money and other valuables. After kidnapping a boy, the two thieves have a very difficult time keeping him under control. The boy constantly inflicts physical harm to his captors and causes them to experience mental strife. In the end, the thieves end up paying the father of the troublesome boy a hefty price in order to get rid of him. After reading this story, I interpreted the theme in two ways. Living a dishonest life does not pay off in the end and working hard is the only way to achieve success, are both possible themes of The Ransom of Red Chief. When both of these possible
Officially credited with 80 air combat victories, 26 year old Manfred von Richthofen (“The Red Baron”) was not only Germany’s greatest Ace, but the greatest Ace of World War 2. Despite the fact that he was killed nearly 100 years ago on 21 April 1918, the question still remains: Who killed Manfred von Richthofen? While the kill was credited to be the work of Captain Roy Brown, a Canadian pilot, there are reasons to believe that the Baron was killed at the hands of a different soldier. Sergeant Cedric Popkin, of the 24th Australian Machine Gun Company is the man who was most likely to have shot his plane down. Not only was Cedric within the range the bullet was shot from, but bullet trajectory and evidence from the official autopsy comes
Conflict: The group’s main problem is that they are being held ransom and they don’t know whether they’ll ever be rescued. The group is concerned that their parents won’t be able to get the whole amount of money so they are faced with the fact of having to runaway in order to escape their kidnappers.
Theme is the moral of the story. There can be 1 for an entire book or many in one book. Bravery helps people stand strong for what is right even when times are tough. is my thematic statement. Our scene is when Bod is on the big rock and the Jacks are telling him why they need to kill him and who they are. Bravery is the theme here because he shows that he will stand up ever when he is afraid. And when he is face to face with the people that want to kill him, he doesn’t run away. One of the Quotes that I believe shows bravery is , “‘you’ve not faded’ said liza ‘anyone could find you.’ ‘Good,’ said Bod. ‘I want them to find me’”. I believe this shows bravery because he is standing up to the jacks even though he might die. Another quote that
Virtue is defined as a morally good and desirable quality in a person. This leads us to wonder: Do you have to actively choose to be virtuous in your lifestyle, or is avoiding evil enough to be considered as a virtuous being? Did Ransom display active virtue in Out Of The Silent Planet? Must a person be righteous to obtain virtue? Though some take the side saying that virtue is an active choice, others disagree by stating that avoiding evil is sufficient for becoming virtuous. A person must actively choose to be virtuous because humans were not born virtuous, virtue is an attribute, and the trait must be learned.
Suspense is a key factor to the story, “The Masque of the Red Death” by Edgar Allen Poe. According to the Oxford Dictionary, suspense is the state or feeling of excited or anxious uncertainty about what may happen. Poe uses the senses to bring the reader aware of the building suspense. He does this by telling the reader about the ominous setting of all the chambers, especially the seventh chamber. The sound of the grandfather clock, sending sinister shivers throughout the party goers each hour, keeps them on their toes. Finally, the fast-paced chase of the intruder and the Prince build to the suspense at the final moments of the story.
My theme from the novel is nothing gold can stay which means that you cannot live for a long time or you
The author, Edgar Allan Poe, using illusion or misdirection keeps the reader is suspense throughout this story called "The Masque of the Red Death". Symbolism such as the colored rooms, the impressive clock, the feeling of celebration being at a party all makes this story feel like a fairytale. Poe used this fairytale style and converts it into a nightmare in disguise.
Edgar Allen Poe, in the short story “The Masque of the Red Death”, shows how people may try to outsmart death and surpass it, but in the end they will die since death is inevitable. He reveals this in the book by showing all the people closed up in the abbey that belongs to Prince Prospero. They are trying to escape the “Red Death” and think that they can escape the death by hiding away in the abbey. They manage to stay safe for six months but in the end they all die after the stroke of midnight during the masquerade ball Prince Prospero puts on from the Red Death itself which appears after midnight and leaves no survivors in the end. Poe develops the theme of how no one can escape death through the use of the point of view, the setting, and symbolism.
Imagery is the use of figurative or descriptive language to create a vivid mental picture. It involves at least one of the five senses--sight, sound, touch, feel, taste. It terrifies and worries the people of the masquerade ball. Poe’s use of imagery, more specifically the sense of sight, is to express the appearance of the Red Death figure. Edgar Allan Poe’s short story “The Masque of the Red Death” uses graphic imagery to offer a powerful statement about how death can’t be escaped.
K.M. Grant’s Blood Red Horse was about how Sir Thomas, William, and Gavin were sent on a crusade for the Holy Land. Long before the crusade, young Will bought a courser named Hosanna as a war horse. Early on in the crusade, Sir Thomas dies after William recovers from his illness. Then, Kamil attacks Will and Gavin and takes Hosanna for his own, Gavin was left with an amputated sword arm. Hosanna becomes close to Kamil and was crucial to Saladin's failed assassination plot. For the final fight, Kamil gave Hosanna back to the Christians and helped get medicines for him when he got shot. After Hosanna healed, the Christians stopped their crusade before capturing Jerusalem.
The idea of death is a thought the scares many, from those who have lived the course of their life to those who are just merely starting it. With the fear that consumes each person comes the will to try and escape the long claws of death, though no matter whom one is, death is inevitable. The short story, “Masque of the Red Death” by Edgar Allen Poe, gives the theme that no one is capable of escaping death through the use of plot, symbolism, and narration. The story takes place during the dark ages where a bubonic plague, which causes sharp pains, sudden dizziness, and profuse bleeding at the pores, was claiming many lives. The Prince Prospero, wanting to outlive this horrid plague, locked himself away along with 1,000 others from his court.
The author’s message in The Masque of the Red Death,is that you can’t escape death. He conveys this message through his descriptive writing and the mood he sets. He built gates to keep out the disease from entering his kingdom. He had his people build, “A strong and lofty wall” with “... gates of iron.”. He believed that, “the external world would take care of itself.” (36), so he wanted more safety for himself than for his subjects. Later in the story, Poe writes about the apartments in the prince’s house. There were seven apartments with different colors. The first was, “blue - and vividly blue were its windows”, the second was, “purple in its ornaments and tapestries”, the third was, “ green throughout”, the

Edgar Allen Poe; the master of darkness. Every student encounters Poe at least once in their life, and they all naively believe that all his writing portrays darkness, death, or some other aspect of evilness. Nevertheless, these students fail to realize that Poe also illustrates some details of positivity and lightness throughout his writing. In his captivating short story, “The Masque of the Red Death,” Poe demonstrates his use of both darkness and illumination. When reading Poe’s short story, it is clear to understand that his use of symbolism is strong, leading to the theme of life and death.
Themes- The two themes in my trailer are, “Greed drives men to do awful things,” and, “Passion is a driving force of greed.” I think that these are major themes in The Racketeer because Max committed the awful act of condemning Nathan. He also took the gold to share with his companion, Vanessa. I brought these themes out when I mentioned how Nathan got stuck in Jamaica because of Max’s greed, and when Max committed such an atrocious crime for Vanessa.
